Once again, our pre-Gameweek members article, focussing on the main captaincy contenders, arrives this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

David Silva is the runaway leader of our Gameweek 20 Captain Poll ahead of Man City’s home clash with Sunderland. Four goals and an assist over his last three matches in Manuel Pellegrini’s false nine system has persuaded over 38% of voters to opt for the little Spaniard as the champions look to bounce back from their weekend home draw against Burnley. Four goals in his previous six earns Yaya Toure 5% backing here, despite concerns over the groin injury that kept him out of the Clarets’ clash.

Raheem Sterling and Charlie Austin are next in line with 9% of votes apiece. The former’s move to the central role up top saw him grab a goal against Burnley last Friday, and with visitors Leicester conceding at least twice in five of their last six road trips, the Reds will fancy their chances of a third straight win. Despite an unexpected blank at home to Palace on Sunday, Austin has still served up five goals and a pair of assists in his last four at Loftus Road ahead of the visit of Swansea.

Wayne Rooney remains in contention as Man United roll up to the Britannia. Stoke have registered back-to-back clean sheets but will do well to keep out their opponents, who have now gone nine matches unbeaten – Rooney has five goals and a pair of assists in his last seven.

Eden Hazard is the preferred Chelsea weapon of choice for the league leaders’ trip to White Hart Lane. The Belgian has earned 5% of votes after earning returns in each of his previous four appearances – Diego Costa, on the other hand, is trusted by just 2% of voters after scoring just twice in his last six.

Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke has been backed by 4% for the home encounter with managerless Palace. The big Belgian has produced returns in two of his last three at Villa Park and looks the man most likely to breach the Eagles’ backline.

Further down, the likes of Stewart Downing (2%) and Andy Carroll (1%) look real differentials as the Hammers host struggling West Brom, whilst Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez (2% and 1%) could also be worth considering, given their fine festive form.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Can't wait for Neuer to make the move to Stoke, start playing up front, and make the runs only keepers dream about.

Whether to do Yaya --> Sterling (C) or not is driving me nuts. It's a transfer that could go hugely right, or hugely wrong. Sterling could even get rested. Imagine he gets rested and Yaya scores a brace after making that move 😯 . Then again Sterling might just start and rip Leicester a new one. Help 🙁

Demi is saying Falcao is going to be rested so I can't do it 🙁 . Can't be missing two big players . Sterling's finishing has been awful , Yaya is on free kicks and pens , You surely have another boring defensive transfer that should be made

      1. Bubz

Ahhh... perhaps in for Siggy but not Yaya imo. As you said it could go so horribly the other way.
What about Lallana as a pick too?

          1. Bubz
            11 years, 10 months ago

I wouldnt mind owning either of them. At least Lallana can finish. But I just think Sterling could explode any minute when the planets align and he actually remembers to wear his shooting boots.

I'm bemused by Cresswell in so many teams. Whammers are hardly a hotbed of cs and his attacking output is minimal to say the least.

Remove Costa for Kane. Kane's output is pretty much matching everyone's output anyway and allows the Power 5.

            Costa and not Rooney?

    Elliott, Hutton, Kane, Chambers

I want to play Hutton for cs potential but I'm struggling to drop any of my starting 11. Would you go as it is or put in Hutton for any of my starting 11. A double Villa defence against Palace could pay off like last week & Hutton playing as a wing back.

There's a reason why you paid so much for your defence. Play them without reservation. Hutton or Guzan, not both with those options. Villa double up is too risky. Sunlund should have scored 4 or 5 last week but couldn't hit a cows arS# with a banjo !

Nice team. Good to see something different but equally as valid.
      Massive Def!
Think you have the team sheet right.

        Thank you.

Playing in the monthly ML. It's beginning of the month so easy to shakes things up.

See anything glaring with this lot? Trying to take 2 FT's into next week if possible

    Foster
    Cahill Clichy Hutton
    Hazard Sanchez Silva Downing
    Costa Rooney Austin

    Hamer Boyd Wisdom Yun

    1FT and 0.7ITB

    1. HammersXI
      11 years, 10 months ago

I think you are GTG to save a FT

    2. Van Klinkert Delarosa
      11 years, 10 months ago

Clichy is the only risky rotation here. But Wisdom could come in from bench.

  22. Perthite
    11 years, 10 months ago

Do I get Silva in? Would be for a hit.
Only options are Siggy or Eriksen (other mids are Hazard, Downing & Sanchez)

    Keep Baines or ship?

    ---------------------De Gea
    ---------Baines | Zabaleta | Cissokho
Hazard | Silva | Sterling | Yaya Toure | Eriksen
    -----------------Rooney | Austin
    ________________________________________
    Kane | Davies | Moore

Ship - I did it last GW.

    2. Royal5
      11 years, 10 months ago

No reason to ship Baines atm. Playing in midfield and got Hull.

Ship for who? Tight ars#es on here will say do it but, realistically he'll be in top 3 defenders at the end of the season and guarenteed as soon as you get rid he'll explode. 7 mill is nowt especially when he becomes a differential which won't be long. Keep the faith!

  24. HammersXI
    11 years, 10 months ago

What should I do with this team? Having some benching dilemmas also.

    Hart
    Vlaar Caulker Azpi
    Yaya Silva Downing Sanchez Hazard
    Austin Bony

Bench : Foster Carroll Chester YUN

    1FT 0.3m ITB

    1. waldo666
      11 years, 10 months ago

I'd probably save and then next week ship out Yaya and Bony

      1. HammersXI
        11 years, 10 months ago

Yaya + Bony -> Sterling + Kane looking good for next week?

Any thoughts about my current bench atm. Bony > Carroll?

        1. waldo666
          11 years, 10 months ago

Yep, looks good and see below for bench feedback

      2. waldo666
        11 years, 10 months ago

Could also maybe start Carroll over Bony

        1. HammersXI
          11 years, 10 months ago

Yeah that's what everyone is telling me... I'm not sure whether I would be daring enough to do so.

    2. Big Sum
      11 years, 10 months ago

      play carroll over bony probably

      1. HammersXI
        11 years, 10 months ago

Thanks man for your reply! yeah i'm keep that into consideration. Its QPR though...

        1. Van Klinkert Delarosa
          11 years, 10 months ago

QPR is having good form at home.

Swans particularly Bony and Siggy not good away from home.

  25. Frank Black
    11 years, 10 months ago

To sell Bony or not to sell Bony, that is the question.....

A game against QPR looks tempting but he hasn't been amazing in the last two games.

    1. HammersXI
      11 years, 10 months ago

He is going to go anyways the next game. I rather keep him and then let him loose after that.

    2. Bubz

May as well wait a week imo

Up until the end of the WC period (not sure when I will play it), who would be the best 4.5M defender to have?

I have Wisdom and Hutton. Thinking of getting a Burnley dude in

Is Kompany back yet? Worried Demicheles will be straight out the starting 11 when he´s back.

    1. Fantasy Gold
      11 years, 10 months ago

Not for January 1st. Will probably be fit for Jan 10th game though

  29. Captain Shirokov
    11 years, 10 months ago

    Forster
    Terry, Zab, Wisdom
    Yaya, Hazard, Sanchez, Siggy, Downing
    Austin, Benteke

(Moore, Bojan, Skrtel) ie. nonexistent. 1 FT, 3.3 in the bank

    A) Siggy to Silva/Sterling
    B) Moore to Hutton/Cresswell
    C) Save

    1. The King
