We return once again this Wednesday lunchtime to take our regular pre-Gameweek look at the PlayON Player Price List. As always, we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

Today PlayON launches the PlayON Leaderboard , where the highest total at the end of the season wins £1,000. The leaderboard is the sum of your Top five PlayON scores throughout the Premier League season; you can score points in any game period – Daily or Weekly – so even if you haven’t tried PlayON yet, there’s still over 50 game periods left this season to register your top five. Take a look at the PlayON Leaderboard Here.

For New Year’s Day, PlayON has £200 in Freerolls on offer and a £1,000 Guaranteed Pot – enter the games now at www.PlayON.co

Goalkeepers – Jak Alnwick
Granted, the Newcastle goalkeeper has yet to keep a clean sheet since being handed the chance to fill in for the injured Tim Krul and Robert Elliot but, at a cost of just 5.6m, is the definition of a budget enabler. Although opponents Burnley scored twice at the Etihad last weekend, the cut-price Alnwick will be encouraged by the fact the Clarets have drawn blanks in five of their nine road trips so far. With uncertainty surrounding the City back-four, Joe Hart is the essential pick. Prior to Sunday’s 2-2 draw, the champions had conceded just twice in six outings and we’re backing them to return to that resilient form against a Sunderland side that have scored only once in their last four away matches.

Defenders – Winston Reid
Having kept three clean sheets in their previous five home matches, West Ham will be optimistic of another shut-out against managerless West Brom. The Baggies have failed to score in three of their last four away trips and with James Tomkins suspended, we’re turning to fellow centre-half Winston Reid (7.1m) for this one. After netting against Swansea on Monday, Alberto Moreno (7.4m) could be set to continue in the first XI as Liverpool host basement-dwellers Leicester. The Spaniard’s raiding runs down the flank seem perfectly suited for the wing-back berth and bearing in mind the Foxes have scored in only four of ten away trips, points at both ends of the pitch could be on the cards.

Midfielders – Jordan Henderson
We look to Liverpool again for a left-field pick in the centre of the park. The quality of Monday’s performance suggests the Reds have found some form and, having provided a pair of assists against the Swans, Henderson now has two goals and six assists to his name this term. At 8.4, he’s far more budget friendly than Raheem Sterling (12.1m), Philippe Coutinho (10.6m) and Adam Lallana (11.5m) and should also benefit from the interception and tackle points in the PlayON Scoring Matrix. The essential pick in midfield could easily have been one of those Liverpool midfielders but we’ve gone for value with Stewart Downing (8.3m). After back-to-back blanks against Chelsea and Arsenal, the West Ham playmaker will be looking to reprise the form that saw him score or assist in the first four Gameweeks of December. With the Baggies in free-fall, Big Sam’s side look likely to profit.

Forwards – Ayoze Perez
With Papiss Cisse suspended, we opt for Newcastle’s young Spanish striker for a plum home clash with Burnley. The 7.5m-priced Perez took his tally to five for the season in the weekend win over Everton and, having won five of their last six at St James’ Park, the Magpies look favourites for their first match of the post-Pardew era. After a 30-minute cameo against Burnley on Sunday, Stevan Jovetic could be unleashed from the start at home to Sunderland as the champions look to return to winning ways. The Montenegrin scored two goals and bagged an assist in the three matches prior to his hamstring injury lay-off and, at 10.8m, is far cheaper than David Silva (12.8m) as a route into Manuel Pellegrini’s attack.

Head over to at www.PlayON.co and get your teams in for the Freerolls and £1,000 Guaranteed Pot.

    Killian here from PlayON,

BIG NEWS TODAY: We have launched our Leaderboard today with £1,000 for the highest total at the end of the season - take a look at https://playon.co/en/premier-league/new-years-day#/leaderboard

The Leaderboard is the sum of your Top 5 PlayON Scores throughout the Premier League season and you can score points in any game period - Daily or Weekly. So even if you haven’t tried PlayON at all yet, there’s still over 50 game periods left this season for you to score your top 5 and win the £1,000.

We also have 2x £100 Freeroll games on offer on New Years Day, as well as our usual £1,000 Guaranteed Game - you can enter the Freerolls now at http://www.playon.co

If you have any questions about PlayON or comments on our Leaderboard structure just add them as replies below and I'll answer / address them all.

The Leaderboard is great, gives a season like feel to a weekly game.

But wouldn't it be better if it all started this gameweek rather than taking scores from the beginning of the season?
Kind of an unfair advantage to those who are at top right now, I think.

        Hi Mr. Anderson,

We have taken the scores from the beginning of the season to reward those people who have been playing with us since the beginning of the season. The structure of the leaderboard means that there is over 50 game periods left to score your top 5 in before the end of the season so even people who haven't tried PlayON yet can still win the £1,000.

Given the season is only half-way over we think it is a fair time to launch the leaderboard which includes scores from the first half.

          Ya, that seems alright.

But my team being at 8th(Deathly Hellow), just because I didn't had Aguero in gameweek 8 when he scored 4 and almost everyone has one highest score of gameweek 8, I just made that point 🙂
If I had him I would be in the top three but I hope someone else scores 4 goals in the second half and I have that player.

          It's cool either way.

I love the idea of the leaderboard.
One little thing: I am not such a big fan of the winner takes all payout structure (as it gives v little incentive to compete if one player is too good after a couple of great scores).
Would you consider a top 3 payout (like £600/£300/£100)?

      Great work Killian

        Hi Big01,

We're actually going to give £250 to 2nd place and £100 to 3rd place, in addition to the £1,000 for 1st place - it's just not shown on the site yet but this will be in over the next few days.

When looking at the defensive team stats in the members area, does chances conceded down the left flank relate to the left flank from the defenders perspective or the attackers? For example, if a Spurs concede a lot of chances down the left flank does this mean Ivanovic will profit? Or Azpil??

    Thanks.

I would have assumed as it's a defensive stat that "chances conceded down the left" relates to the defenders left i.e. Ivanovic would benefit

Transferring Eriksen out just because of one game seems a luxury/boredom transfer. Chelsea do concede away. Spurs are unlikely to blank two home games running.

It's on Yaya at the moment. But will probably move a fair few times before tomorrow.

For everyone still in the FPL cup, how's your GW20 opponent looking? Anyone wary of a defeat? Thankfully, mine is a dead team at 1.3 OR, with not too many players to be concerned about.

      Live team at 163k

His strikeforce is Austin - Kane - Bojan...

91.6% of the teams out there are dead at this time in the season.

Much the same, except they have Hazard as Captain. Otherwise feel reasonably confident. Debating whether to do RVP>Roonpig for a hit.

Kane or Yaya for tomorrow? Have also got wisdom and dummett on the bench, either of those likely to get a clean sheet?

Wisdom and kane benched for me. Yaya (c).
But I'm worried that pulis might make a clean sheet just by being in the stadium

Sorry guys, repost, didn't realise there was a new article.

Is this team alright for tomorrow? I did Toure to Silva this week. 0FT, 2.7 ITB, and sitting at about 6k.

    Pants
    Hutton-Zabaleta-Azpi
    Sanchez-Silva-Fab-Eriksen
    Costa-Austin-Tekkkers.

Boyd, Colo and Reveilliere on the bench. Thanks for any responses gang!
