So we made it – 2015 is upon us and, almost immediately, we’re back in the Gameweek groove.

Before thoughts turn to the deadline and I start tapping out my hungover Preamble, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a huge Happy New Year.

I’d also like to take this chance to give a shout-out to all those who, over the last twelve months and previous years, have contributed to the running of this site with words, expertise, blood, sweat and tears. Thanks.

A special mention must go to Paul, who continues to relentlessly churn out words of exceptional quality on a daily basis. Also to Jonty, who, along with our brilliant moderation team, has worked to ensure that Fantasy Football Scout continues to thrive as one the most active, knowledgeable and opinionated football communities around. And finally to Ed who provides the technical know-how and does his best to turn my development ideas into reality. While Chris and myself distract ourselves with developing Fantasy Football Scout as a business to keep things going, these people help to maintain and grow the site that you read each week.

Finally, I’d like to thank you, the community, for your contributions, enthusiasm, passion and knowledge. Myself, Paul and the writers work tirelessly to provide articles worth reading but we’re well aware that Fantasy Football Scout grows due to the contributions made by our community. You know your stuff.

Next year will be another big one for us. On Monday, work begins on Fantasy Football Scout version 4. It’s about time we became more usable on tablet and mobile platforms and we’re about to sort that. We began a few months back by considering keeping the majority of what you see now – carrying out some Botox injections if you like. In the end, we’ve opted for the full facelift and we’ve hired an expert surgeon to carry it out. Coding on the next version of Fantasy Football Scout will commence from next week and, in a few months time, we’ll be coming to you to help us test it.

Ed will do bits and pieces on that but, on the whole, he’s going to be dedicated to realising some of my new ideas that have been brewing. The first fruits of that labour are imminent. More on that very soon.

Some of you may have noticed that we’re also hiring. We’re looking to bring in at least two new writers to join Paul’s editorial team and we’ve already got a batch of applicants to sort through. If you’ve missed our ad and feel you’re up to the task, get in touch via writers@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

That’s about it from me. I need to go sober up in preparation for 11.30 – I can’t afford to bring on another Kolarov epiphany.

Happy New Year to all!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    can I get some opinions? many thanks
    how does this sound as a plan for this GW and next?...

    this week:
    Bartley --> Steven Taylor

    next week:
    Clichy --> Pieters
    Yaya Toure --> Downing
    Kane --> Rooney

      I'm not in love with Downing's next nine fixtures after this week.
      Actually I don't like much of it tbh. Sorry P&C.
      Too tired now to think of alternatives.

      Plan your Winter WC and which GW you want it. Then decide who you think will score best for that period.

    Guzan (Elliott)
    Azpi, Hutton, Zaba (Naylor, Bertrand)
    Hazard, Sanchez, Sanchez, Downing VC (Boyd)
    RVP, Austin C, Costa

    Was going to C Downing but can see Baggies defense tightning up so Pulis doesn't get any idea about dropping them so went with Austin.

            I don't think it will change anything for Silva. Jovetic will play instead of Milner. Shape will remain the same surely?

              I think it will. Silva's amazing returns have basically been due to City's false 9 system, with Milner as the false 9 and Silva and others making attacking runs around him.

              If Jovetic is back, he'll play as an out and out striker, which will reduce Silva's ability to get in and around the box as much as he has been recently. He'll go back to being an 'assist the assister' type player.

              1. Marty McFly
                • 13 Years
                11 years, 4 months ago

                I agree with you about the assist the assister thing for Silva. It is something I've said myself in the past. However, that's usually the case when City play with 2 up top (i.e. Aguero + Dzeko/Jovetic). If they're only playing with 1 up front I think he will still be heavily involved in and around the box.

                1. Nickofoz
                  • Fantasy Football Scout Member

                  You may well be right but Silva's returns are often poor when Aguero plays up top by himself (which he has done quite a few times this season).

                  1. Marty McFly
                    • 13 Years
                    11 years, 4 months ago

                    Silva and Aguero have only started 8 PL games together this season. In 5 of those Dzeko started the game, in another Jovetic started (6/8 they played 2 up front with Silva in midfield).

                    Two games in which they played Aguero up front on his own were away against Arsenal and Spurs - Not exactly easy games.

                    I think this is compounding evidence that there is not a large enough sample size to judge Silva's potential playing off a lone recognised striker, nor is there any evidence of his potential performance in this system against weaker opposition, expect that of the past 3 games.

      Moreno should play every game, especially when we're playing a back 5. He's our most direct defender with the ball. Sakho more nailed on. Moreno could easily score you 15 points tomorrow, but he could also score you none. If you're going to have a punt with a LFC defender I'd go with Moreno.

      Save. Sterling not a better option than Haz, Alexis or Silva.

        Save the FT. You're not getting Sterling without taking Silva, Hazard or Sanchez out, or taking a hit. He's not been that reliable

      you'd need a hit---baines probably

      There are two ways you can realistically achieve this,

      A) Baines + Downing > Hutton + Sterling
      B) Downing + Costa > Sterling + Benteke

    A) Chambers -> Sakho
    B) Yaya or Silva (pick one) -> Sterling

    Both FT.. Which is better..?

      Chambers for this week.. He'll probably get 20 mins for 1 pt this GW.
      And then Yaya out next (for the African Cup)

        I did. Giroud started and hindered his impact. As soon as he went off sanchez came to life and scored the winner.

        I believe so. Despite Silva's recent form we know he isn't very explosive and a lot are going with him. That lessens the chance of crashing down the rankings so it is a good time to do something different. Potentially up front. Looks like Soton are playing hopeless Yoshida at RB

    Happy New Year, fantasy footballers!

    Who would you start between

    Dummett (BUR H)

    Eriksen (CHE H)

    Kane (CHE H)

    It's driving me mad! Burnley will be buzzing after scoring 2 at city, but are still suspect away from home and could well fail to score against Newcastle. I doubt Eriksen or Kane will get anything but am having visions that Tottenham will score one.

    Good luck!

      Azpi. Home games and easier fixtures. Hutton and Dummett both good from an attacking perspective against teams with poor defensive records.

    Hey guys, I need to get rid both toures and Bony by next game week, any moves worth doing now?

    Maybe Bony -> Rooney/Benteke?

    Adrian (Panti)
    Azpil / Hutton / KToure (Clyne / Chambers)
    Hazard / Yaya / Sanchez / Downing / Silva
    Bony / Austin (Kane)

    Thanks
