The New Year heralded in a number of injury concerns earlier today, with treatment rooms around the country opening their doors to accommodate a host of new arrivals.

Arsenal
Mathieu Flamini missed today’s 2-0 loss at Southampton through injury, whilst Arsene Wenger has
confirmed Lukas Podolski was unavailable after sustaining a groin problem.

Aston Villa
Skipper Ron Vlaar was forced off during the first-half of today’s goalless draw against Palace with a knee injury. Post-match, Paul Lambert confirmed the Dutchman is set to be assessed prior to the weekend:

“I am not 100% sure but he’s thinking it could be the same sort of thing that he hurt in the World Cup. It’s his knee. We will probably know more tomorrow. He will go for a scan. Hopefully it’s not too bad. He thinks it might be similar to the one he had in Brazil. We will have to wait and see.”

Burnley
Sean Dyche is counting the cost of today’s comeback draw at Newcastle, after Jason Shackell (calf), Dean Marney (illness) and Kevin Long ((ankle) were forced off. The Burnley boss is sweating over the latter’s availability, with the debutant stretchered off in the 3-3 stalemate:

“Kevin is the big question mark. It needs to settle and the medical team will get on that over the next couple of days. We are hopeful Shacks is not as bad as we maybe first thought and Dean is just sickness. He was almost vomiting before the game and it is a strange one. ”

Everton
Kevin Mirallas started on the left of a front three away to Hull but was withdrawn at the break, with Roberto Martinez confirming:

“Kevin was feeling a little bit sore at half-time and we needed everyone to be 100% in order to be dynamic.””

Hull
Andrew Robertson is set for x-rays on his ankle and foot after a challenge from Everton’s Mo Besic forced him off on 23 minutes today. Liam Rosenior was withdrawn before the hour mark due to a hamstring problem, whilst Gaston Ramirez was subbed off at the break as a result of his ongoing groin complaint.

Leicester
Danny Drinkwater was replaced by David Nugent on 36 minutes after picking up an injury during the 2-2 draw at Liverpool.

Liverpool
Adam Lallana’s recent run of form was halted earlier today due to injury. The Reds midfielder was subbed off early in the second period, with Brendan Rodgers confirming post-match:

“He’s got a tweak in his thigh, so we’ll see how that is.”

Mario Balotelli missed out altogether after sustaining an injury in training.

Man United
Ashley Young could be set for a period on the sidelines, according to Louis van Gaal, after he was forced off during today’s draw at Stoke.

“He has a hamstring injury. He’s out for many weeks, I think. But I’m not a doctor so we have to wait for tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.”

Newcastle
The Magpies look poised to be without Steven Taylor for the remainder of the season. Caretaker boss John Carver confirmed the worst after the centre-half was taken off during today’s draw with Burnley:

“Unfortunately there’s bad news with Steven. It looks like he’s snapped his Achilles tendon – the other one (to which he injured against Chelsea in December 2011). It’s a fresh injury and I’m so disappointed for him because he got off to a great start. He’s a good character and he’ll deal with it. We’ll make sure he’s looked after and everything will be done properly.”

Southampton
The Saints’ in-form wide man Sadio Mane was withdrawn after scoring his third goal in as many matches in today’s win over Arsenal. After the 2-0 triumph, Ronald Koeman is uncertain whether Mane – who is soon set to fly to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal – will be available for the weekend FA Cup clash with Ipswich:

“I have to wait until Friday, I don’t know what happened exactly, we will know more then if he is available for Sunday or not.”

Sunderland
Santiago Vergini was withdrawn on 77 minutes after picking up a knock in the Black Cats’ narrow loss at City. Lee Cattermole failed to make the Etihad trip due to a groin problem, Gus Poyet has confirmed.

Tottenham
Erik Lamela missed today’s stunning win over Chelsea with a minor calf complaint, whilst Ryan Mason limped off with a hamstring injury in the first period.

West Brom
Craig Gardner missed the Baggies 1-1 draw at West Ham with a calf problem, whilst fellow midfielder Graham Dorrans was subbed off through injury late on.

West Ham
The Hammers have concerns over today’s scorer Diafra Sakho, who was forced off with a recurrence of a back problem. The Senegal striker will be hoping to recover in time to fly off on international duties in the African Cup of Nations next week.

“We have to have a scan on it and see what condition his back is in. Obviously it’s a similar situation to when he last came back from [international duty with] Senegal, so on Friday the lads will send him for a scan and we’ll see how it goes from there”

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hmm Krul back next week. NEW defence may not be a joke anymore. At least two goals last night were easily savable.

Well it's pretty clear now - a front 3 of Kane, Austin and one from Costa/Roondog is now the order of the day imo.

not sure what you mean by ID, but you can't transfer from different years as you probs know (13,14,15) but basically you add the person you trade with as a friend then they put something on transfer market for 4 million buy now so you can find the item, which you then send a trade offer for!

Priorities here? Not too keen on a MCY double up at the back with eve/ARS up next.

    Bank 0.1m, 2 freebies

    A) Hart -> Lloris/Heaton/Foster
    B) Zabaleta -> Trippier/Cresswell
    C) Chambers -> Trippier/Cresswell

    Hart
    Terry, Wisdom, Zabaleta

    Elliot, Downing, Hutton, Chambers

    I got Zaba in 4 weeks ago and got 11, 0, 0, 0.

On paper that seems like a really bad investment, but come to think of it, not only it was the logical choice that time but also 11 points = ~2 CS in 4 games which is not too bad.

Looking at other alternatives and high scoring defender on that period..

    1. Clichy = 12 points
    2. Hutton = 16 points
    3. Skrtel = 18 points
    4. Ivanonvic = 17 points
    5. Azpi = 12 points

Only Terry (shite I got Azpi instead, cheap fecker I am) scores a ridicolous 38 point in that period.

All in all, yes Zaba probably not the best investment we had for a while, but don't feel too bad about it.

Baines though on the other hand...

And if you think this is a post for self-reassurance, yes it is. 😉

Bringing in in Zab did look a good move at the time, sometimes you just get unlucky.

I was 0.1 sgirt of getting Terry so got Azpi instead a while back. Worked out well for a while but man it bit me in the ass this month. Also got Zab. It looked the logical thing. He has yet to score a point for me lol

I actually got the extra money to get Terry, and I know Azpi probably will be rotated compared to Terry. I just thought I MAY need the extra 0.3m (which I didn't according to my planned transfer then). So I had no clue why I went with Azpi.

I don't know the whole Siggy - Bony situation thing.

Isn't Bony kind help Siggy as he's more of an assister rather than goal scorer (most of his goal are from free kicks)?

Or is it because there's Bony so he's limited as a goal scorer.

      Don't get Sterling

      Don't get rid of Costa

      Bony to Kane

      Yaya to Silva/Sanchez/Hazard/Downing/Eriksen/Lallana

I dont have Costa btw. I was either getting Kane or Costa in for Bony, sorry about the confusion.
I already have Silva Sanzhez Hazard Downing. Not too sure if I would want to double up on Spurs atm..

You rate Lallana and Eriksen better than OOP Sterling?

Yes I do because they preform. Simple. They return points. They also have set pieces.

Oh I'd get Costa and Boyd in then. No benching headache

          Who are your strikers?

Wow, that is not the news I was looking for, was thinking about a punt with wengers remakes about him starting next match

Watch the replay of the match for his cameo only. Arsenal were absolute shambles. They were clueless. Was so fed up that I gave up around 80th min and he still hasn't touch the ball by that time i think.

    4) Zabaleta (eve)

I also have the same situation and philosophy so thinking of benching Downing instead of Austin for him.

Hearing lots if talk about people getring kompany on WC. Expecting City to tighten up? Fixtures arent that great amd Im thinking of ditching Zab -0pts- eletta

I can't wait to sell Zab, what a shocking transfer that was. Apart from Terry I think I'll be keeping away frpm expensive defenders in the WC, they're just not doing it this season.

Ill get terry myself I reckon. And a few cheapies. Maybe a few mid price Southampton or Utd too

        I've always stayed away from them, they're very rarely worth it. That's why I on;y have one...just a shame he's Baines 😡

Considering how they did with a good run of fixtures though it hardly warrants investment

But it's the three weeks before that look nasty - eve, ARS, che. Can't see any clean sheets there, I'm afraid.

They're not bad given how poorly Everton and Arsenal are playing at the moment but I still don't see clean sheets. Zaba might get some attacking returns though. You never know!

i’m thinking Terry, Debuchy, Clyne, Cameron, Hutton

      1. Billy Ketsu

Yes, I have Terry, Bertrand and Hutton already. PVA looks like he could be great value at 4.2m when he comes back. Cameron's interesting but Stoke just don't seem to do home cleanies. West Brom look ripe with Pulis in charge.
Defence isn't really a problem, it's the mids and forwards that are giving me a headache!

Panti is a must on WC imo(no need for double up with PVA), and yeah i have headaches as well pickng my front 8.

          1. Billy Ketsu
            • 15 Years

            Heaton Panti
            Terry Bertrand Hutton Wisdom X

That looks pretty good and not too expensive either.

Clyne instead of Bert and X=Cameron for me but i quess i gotta find a spot for one Pulis lad

I had a Bego / Cameron double up a couple of years ago and it worked like a treat, loads of home clean sheets, so I'm quite keen on him myself.

Pick 1 to play next GW

    a) Silva
    b) Walcott

    1. Ings
    2. Austin
    3. Hutton

Walcott can't be with Ings. 😉

        Who to bench out of

        Fabianski
        Zab Azpi Baines
        Sanch Haz Sterl Silva Down
        Kane Ings

        Austin Hutton Clyne

Close between Downing Austin and Hutton. Only 1 slot there
