The New Year heralded in a number of injury concerns earlier today, with treatment rooms around the country opening their doors to accommodate a host of new arrivals.

Arsenal
Mathieu Flamini missed today’s 2-0 loss at Southampton through injury, whilst Arsene Wenger has
confirmed Lukas Podolski was unavailable after sustaining a groin problem.

Aston Villa
Skipper Ron Vlaar was forced off during the first-half of today’s goalless draw against Palace with a knee injury. Post-match, Paul Lambert confirmed the Dutchman is set to be assessed prior to the weekend:

“I am not 100% sure but he’s thinking it could be the same sort of thing that he hurt in the World Cup. It’s his knee. We will probably know more tomorrow. He will go for a scan. Hopefully it’s not too bad. He thinks it might be similar to the one he had in Brazil. We will have to wait and see.”

Burnley
Sean Dyche is counting the cost of today’s comeback draw at Newcastle, after Jason Shackell (calf), Dean Marney (illness) and Kevin Long ((ankle) were forced off. The Burnley boss is sweating over the latter’s availability, with the debutant stretchered off in the 3-3 stalemate:

“Kevin is the big question mark. It needs to settle and the medical team will get on that over the next couple of days. We are hopeful Shacks is not as bad as we maybe first thought and Dean is just sickness. He was almost vomiting before the game and it is a strange one. ”

Everton
Kevin Mirallas started on the left of a front three away to Hull but was withdrawn at the break, with Roberto Martinez confirming:

“Kevin was feeling a little bit sore at half-time and we needed everyone to be 100% in order to be dynamic.””

Hull
Andrew Robertson is set for x-rays on his ankle and foot after a challenge from Everton’s Mo Besic forced him off on 23 minutes today. Liam Rosenior was withdrawn before the hour mark due to a hamstring problem, whilst Gaston Ramirez was subbed off at the break as a result of his ongoing groin complaint.

Leicester
Danny Drinkwater was replaced by David Nugent on 36 minutes after picking up an injury during the 2-2 draw at Liverpool.

Liverpool
Adam Lallana’s recent run of form was halted earlier today due to injury. The Reds midfielder was subbed off early in the second period, with Brendan Rodgers confirming post-match:

“He’s got a tweak in his thigh, so we’ll see how that is.”

Mario Balotelli missed out altogether after sustaining an injury in training.

Man United
Ashley Young could be set for a period on the sidelines, according to Louis van Gaal, after he was forced off during today’s draw at Stoke.

“He has a hamstring injury. He’s out for many weeks, I think. But I’m not a doctor so we have to wait for tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.”

Newcastle
The Magpies look poised to be without Steven Taylor for the remainder of the season. Caretaker boss John Carver confirmed the worst after the centre-half was taken off during today’s draw with Burnley:

“Unfortunately there’s bad news with Steven. It looks like he’s snapped his Achilles tendon – the other one (to which he injured against Chelsea in December 2011). It’s a fresh injury and I’m so disappointed for him because he got off to a great start. He’s a good character and he’ll deal with it. We’ll make sure he’s looked after and everything will be done properly.”

Southampton
The Saints’ in-form wide man Sadio Mane was withdrawn after scoring his third goal in as many matches in today’s win over Arsenal. After the 2-0 triumph, Ronald Koeman is uncertain whether Mane – who is soon set to fly to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal – will be available for the weekend FA Cup clash with Ipswich:

“I have to wait until Friday, I don’t know what happened exactly, we will know more then if he is available for Sunday or not.”

Sunderland
Santiago Vergini was withdrawn on 77 minutes after picking up a knock in the Black Cats’ narrow loss at City. Lee Cattermole failed to make the Etihad trip due to a groin problem, Gus Poyet has confirmed.

Tottenham
Erik Lamela missed today’s stunning win over Chelsea with a minor calf complaint, whilst Ryan Mason limped off with a hamstring injury in the first period.

West Brom
Craig Gardner missed the Baggies 1-1 draw at West Ham with a calf problem, whilst fellow midfielder Graham Dorrans was subbed off through injury late on.

West Ham
The Hammers have concerns over today’s scorer Diafra Sakho, who was forced off with a recurrence of a back problem. The Senegal striker will be hoping to recover in time to fly off on international duties in the African Cup of Nations next week.

“We have to have a scan on it and see what condition his back is in. Obviously it’s a similar situation to when he last came back from [international duty with] Senegal, so on Friday the lads will send him for a scan and we’ll see how it goes from there”

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Decent plan?

    GW21: Hart & Chambers -> Heaton & Debuchy
    GW22: Zaba -> Baines
    GW23: WC

    Hart
    Terry, Wisdom, Zaba
    Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Eriksen
    Costa, Kane, Austin

    Elliot, Downing, Hutton, Chambers

Keep eye on Baines. Blanking and terrible form/stats. Ensure at least one return before you get him.

Closer to WC Id rather have a high risk high return transfers rather than save ones.

Hart to Heaton is ok as enabler. Austin to someone.
      Or even Eriksen to Walcott

        Yeah, good point.

Spurs have 2 decent fixtures though so perhaps Eriksen out isn't the best. Despite blanking he was a little unfortunate last night to not be in the points.

I like the idea of Walcott but think it might be too soon.

So, if you were to pick james ward-prowse, when would you play him? Haven't really watched him play but he seems to be scoring fairly solidly. Basically, wondering if there are certain styles that he does well against and so on.

Hazard Sanchez Silva. These are my 3 main MFs. The fourth is going to be between Di Maria/Sterling/Downing and depending on that, I'll spend on defence.

Don't waste a hit on that. However, you might need to get a hit here to mesh up with early wildcarders. I am doing one to do Rooney --> Kane and then using a hit to upgrade Milner.

He's blanked in 3 of the last 4 games. Guys like Bony, Kane have been getting equal points at half the price.

I am thinking of getting a United mid for Milner to take advantage of those fixtures.

Chadli's stats this GW makes for good reading and he was right up there earlier this season as well.

        Benteke/Austin/Costa owner here.

Austin has been right up there the last 2 GW's with threat(how he has not scored I don't know. Maybe his crap SoT%?) so he has to stay I guess...or ...?

Costa is my kun place holder. So I guess Benteke for the chop?

True. Very surprised at him getting subbed off yesterday.

But he's scores when he's on the pitch. If LvG is half as smart as people say he is I would play Falcao 90 and drop RvP atm

Hi guys.. long post. I understand the whole thing about how it's only halfway through the season and I shouldnt be making decision based on ML, but i think I needed to be proactive from now to beat my ML rival.

    Background:
Rival is 60pts ahead of me. Our team is quite similar where it matters, (Costa, SIlva, Sanchez, Hazard, Baines etc...) I has been like this for many, many weeks because of our team similarity and can see this staying the same until the end of the season.

    Rival: Only Jan WC left
Me: Jan WC and Original WC intact

    Rival's team:

    Foster

    Azpi Hutton NTaylor Cameron STaylor

    Silva Hazard Sanchez Eriksen Downing

    Austin Costa Benteke

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Im thinking of something crazy for this Jan WC and make a 5-4-1 / 5-3-2 team with with Double Chelsea and Double MCity + Baines defence such as below;

    DeGea / 4.0

    Ivanovic Terry Baines Clichy Zabaleta

    Hazard Silva Sanchez Sigurdsson Boyd

    Austin Kane Ings

The idea is to gain ground when Chelsea or MCity gets CS.. and also the massive attacking potential from those defenders while still maintaining my rival's big Mids (Silva, Hazard, Sanchez)..Our main differential will be at the forwards where he might go (at best/most expensive) with Costa or RVP. I'd imagine this idea will work every week these forwards blank.

Is this stupid? It looks crazy but the more I think about it, the more I see it working.

I may post several times to get opinion from others. Btw, I dont care about OR at all. Thanks!@

Baines is useless, crossing is woeful this season, short corners, not on all free kicks and less attacking. Too expensive, not worth it. Same mid as me so I like that part!

    2. Koflok
      • 13 Years
      11 years, 4 months ago

      Play your own game.

Chances of your premium def getting a CS is almost equal to premium attacker getting a goal.
      Actually maybe even less.

And the ceiling of CS is 6-9 points where strikers can get 10+ points.

Don't rely on attacking thrat from defender, it;s like 1 goal in 10 games and there's only less than 20 games left.

Hey guys on a WC how does this look?

    Foster (Panty)
    Clichy Cresswell Trippier (Cissokho Dummett)
    Silva Hazard(C) Sanchez Siggy (Boyd)
    Austin(VC) Rooney Kane

    4.7 mil ITB.

Defense too expensive? Am I missing anything?

    thanks 🙂

Looks good. Defence not the best but passable. For me.

Chadli's conversion rate is ridiculous but the other players have more chance at the goal with those attempts.

If Chadli can get his attempt stats even further he can be golden. Right now he's good asset nonetheless, tempted to bring him on my WC

    Dummet yaya and benteke

    To

    Trippier hazard Kane

    For -4 only

-4 on Dummet->Trippier may not be sensible close to WC, but as rage transfers all look good. I'm also enraged with Dummet.

          Costa/Austin/Kane

Then when Kun is back? Drop Costa?

I can get this front 8:

          Haz/Siggy/Cesc/ADM/Sanchez
          Kun/Austin/Kane

          But it means Rotating Siggy/Kane/Austin.

          Bound to end in tears.

      Until Aguero's back, no.

      Costa - Austin - Kane

Can't see any other options. Maybe Donkey, but Aguero probably back by then....

And when Kun is back? Drop Costa or choose between Austin/Kane?

If it's Costa then there is lots of spare cash lying around...

          True, that's the decision.

Aguero, Costa & Kane plus cheap defs/cheap 5th mid

Aguero, Kane & Austin/Ings etc and premium def/5th expensive mid

Everyone will have four from Sanchez - Hazard - Silva - Fabs - Sterling - Siggy/Downing - Boyd

Just look at the Schlupp goal. That's exactly where he's supposed to be if he's playing DM, but he just gets drawn to the ball. No discipline whatsoever. No coincidence that we were much better against Swansea without him.

Siggy on the bench last week. Kane on the bench this week.

Ever since I've got an 8-man midfield, I've lost more points than gained. Ugh.
