The New Year heralded in a number of injury concerns earlier today, with treatment rooms around the country opening their doors to accommodate a host of new arrivals.

Arsenal
Mathieu Flamini missed today’s 2-0 loss at Southampton through injury, whilst Arsene Wenger has
confirmed Lukas Podolski was unavailable after sustaining a groin problem.

Aston Villa
Skipper Ron Vlaar was forced off during the first-half of today’s goalless draw against Palace with a knee injury. Post-match, Paul Lambert confirmed the Dutchman is set to be assessed prior to the weekend:

“I am not 100% sure but he’s thinking it could be the same sort of thing that he hurt in the World Cup. It’s his knee. We will probably know more tomorrow. He will go for a scan. Hopefully it’s not too bad. He thinks it might be similar to the one he had in Brazil. We will have to wait and see.â€

Burnley
Sean Dyche is counting the cost of today’s comeback draw at Newcastle, after Jason Shackell (calf), Dean Marney (illness) and Kevin Long ((ankle) were forced off. The Burnley boss is sweating over the latter’s availability, with the debutant stretchered off in the 3-3 stalemate:

“Kevin is the big question mark. It needs to settle and the medical team will get on that over the next couple of days. We are hopeful Shacks is not as bad as we maybe first thought and Dean is just sickness. He was almost vomiting before the game and it is a strange one. â€

Everton
Kevin Mirallas started on the left of a front three away to Hull but was withdrawn at the break, with Roberto Martinez confirming:

“Kevin was feeling a little bit sore at half-time and we needed everyone to be 100% in order to be dynamic.”â€

Hull
Andrew Robertson is set for x-rays on his ankle and foot after a challenge from Everton’s Mo Besic forced him off on 23 minutes today. Liam Rosenior was withdrawn before the hour mark due to a hamstring problem, whilst Gaston Ramirez was subbed off at the break as a result of his ongoing groin complaint.

Leicester
Danny Drinkwater was replaced by David Nugent on 36 minutes after picking up an injury during the 2-2 draw at Liverpool.

Liverpool
Adam Lallana’s recent run of form was halted earlier today due to injury. The Reds midfielder was subbed off early in the second period, with Brendan Rodgers confirming post-match:

“He’s got a tweak in his thigh, so we’ll see how that is.â€

Mario Balotelli missed out altogether after sustaining an injury in training.

Man United
Ashley Young could be set for a period on the sidelines, according to Louis van Gaal, after he was forced off during today’s draw at Stoke.

“He has a hamstring injury. He’s out for many weeks, I think. But I’m not a doctor so we have to wait for tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.â€

Newcastle
The Magpies look poised to be without Steven Taylor for the remainder of the season. Caretaker boss John Carver confirmed the worst after the centre-half was taken off during today’s draw with Burnley:

“Unfortunately there’s bad news with Steven. It looks like he’s snapped his Achilles tendon – the other one (to which he injured against Chelsea in December 2011). It’s a fresh injury and I’m so disappointed for him because he got off to a great start. He’s a good character and he’ll deal with it. We’ll make sure he’s looked after and everything will be done properly.â€

Southampton
The Saints’ in-form wide man Sadio Mane was withdrawn after scoring his third goal in as many matches in today’s win over Arsenal. After the 2-0 triumph, Ronald Koeman is uncertain whether Mane – who is soon set to fly to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal – will be available for the weekend FA Cup clash with Ipswich:

“I have to wait until Friday, I don’t know what happened exactly, we will know more then if he is available for Sunday or not.â€

Sunderland
Santiago Vergini was withdrawn on 77 minutes after picking up a knock in the Black Cats’ narrow loss at City. Lee Cattermole failed to make the Etihad trip due to a groin problem, Gus Poyet has confirmed.

Tottenham
Erik Lamela missed today’s stunning win over Chelsea with a minor calf complaint, whilst Ryan Mason limped off with a hamstring injury in the first period.

West Brom
Craig Gardner missed the Baggies 1-1 draw at West Ham with a calf problem, whilst fellow midfielder Graham Dorrans was subbed off through injury late on.

West Ham
The Hammers have concerns over today’s scorer Diafra Sakho, who was forced off with a recurrence of a back problem. The Senegal striker will be hoping to recover in time to fly off on international duties in the African Cup of Nations next week.

“We have to have a scan on it and see what condition his back is in. Obviously it’s a similar situation to when he last came back from [international duty with] Senegal, so on Friday the lads will send him for a scan and we’ll see how it goes from thereâ€

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Planning to get Kane in for Bony, what should I do with Yaya for my 2 FT? Already have Silva,Hazard,Alexis,Downing

    a) Yaya -> Sterling
    b) Yaya -> Chadli / Eriksen (Double up on southampton)
    c) Yaya -> ADM / Mata
    d) Any other suggestions? Money isn't an issue here

That's an interesting suggestion.. I thought he did perform better when Bony is there. And his linking up play with Gomis is kinda bad?

Yeah that's true. I took him out 2 weeks ago for Silva and didn't really expect to bring him back in anytime soon. Maybe I would bring him in during WC for Downing.

did you mean double up on Spurs?

Yaya -> Sterling for me, but then again its been making sense to have him for a while but hes just not getting the points.

Yeah Spurs sorry for the typo! Was thinking about Sterling but there seems to be quite a lot of Hate for him here.

Ozil/Ramsey/Arteta/Giroud back soon i think, kinda kills the Caz option unfortunately because hes great.

Thinks pens order is Arteta then Giroud then Caz

I've hit the wildcard after a terrible festive period, three big red arrows. Currently on

    DDG Hamer
    Terry Clyne Cresswell Wisdom Hutton
    Haz Cesc Sanchez Silva Downing
    Falcao Kane Austin

Obviously will look to get Aguero back later in the month when he's fit.

I really like the Pants rot with either Heaton or Guzan.
Not sure I trust Falcao enough - Roondog for me.
      Otherwise, all good.

      Not a fan.

      Wouldn't have:

DDG, Clyne, Sanchez, Falcao or Austin but then again i haven't looked into a WC team from this point.

For those of us who've held a saints defender this long we might as well hold them now to when the fixtures clear up. That's my thoughts on Clyne anyway.

Yeah fair enough i just prefer Bertrand. But then if its a price issue np.

To be fair I tried to change it to Bertrand but losing the rise in price I have with Clyne as well as the extra to buy Bertrand was just daft for me. Didn't think the difference was worth the compromise.

I've missed a few cs in this run of fixtures benching Clyne and then obviously yesterday with his injury. Southampton are way more resilient than we probably all thought they would be.

Same here held them both through the tough fixtures as I new I would only be looking to bring hem back in after and they offer attacking points also.

Adjusted my defense with cheaper defenders with good fixtures to cover the period and it's worked out perfectly. Southampton look good for the season to me!

Like you, I have had (not just) disastrous Xmas period, but 6/7 red arrows in row... Am seriously considering WC myself, but like Disable, my team isnt actually bad... So did 2ft last night & held off Jan WC...

      Your team above solid

Cheers. I didnt think my squad was that bad, it's just certain things have not work. Yaya over silva, then ditching Yaya this week. A strong bench meaning I benched Kane, brining in zab, that was awful. Frustration got the better of me, Hopefully the wc will inject some life into the team!

The main reason for that is not to have a benching headache. I paid for a 5 man mid benching Kane this GW. Though Boyd is picking up points himself!

Doubling up on CHS - Haz and Fabs is a great idea. Roondog with Austin and Kane appelas to me as the front 3 to have now.

OK, gents. I need your help.

    What should I do?

    A) Benteke out
    B) Baines out
    C) Both for a hit

    Hart
    BAINES, Terry, Wisdom
    Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Siggy, Downing
    Austin, Kane

    Gilks, BENTEKE, Hutton, Naylor.

If I ship Baines, I can play Hutton/new defender.
If I ship Benteke, who would you bench instead?

I'm not sure whether to do Baines > Bertrand, bench him for this week, then play next. (Would get him on the wildcard)

4 Green arrows over the festive period... I did not expect that.

Zabaleta has got to be my worst transfer ever.

    Coleman OUT: 2, 4, 2

    Zabaleta IN: 0, 0, 0. FFS!

I did Baines to zab. To be fair Baines has not been much better but zab has been a woeful option. City defence has been shocking.

The school of thought for the January wildcard is that it's normally best to play it early if you're team needs upwards of 5 or 6 changes, but late if it doesn't. So no, not idiotic.

Post wildcard I'm ditching having "a strong bench option"
Downing, siggy and Kane over Xmas...

Benched siggy last week and played Kane
Benched Kane this week and played siggy

Next gw. Benching downing. Playing Kane and siggy

    So get on downing! 🙂

I did the same and got lucky with Yaya last week meaning Siggy came in off the bench. Kane sitting on the bench is a killer though. I also did Yaya to silva this week. Pretty much a terrible two weeks to be honest,

    WC shout
    DeGea Hamer/Panti
    Bruce Cameron Terry Rose Hutton
    Silva Fab Haz Chadli Sanchez
    Giroud Kane Austin

5 Mil in the Bank and I quite frankly, Can't think how to spend it apart from Aguero when he comes back. Could spend more on Forwards but are the ones I have going to be out performed. No Liverpool player but who would I swap out?
Could improve the defense slightly but is it worth it when everyone are leaking goals?

I've taken a punt on him. Dunno if it'll come off but I've wanted to get him in since he signed, just fitness was the problem.

I did that. Binned Costa and went Haz Cesc instead and that enabled Falcao. I know it's a bit of a punt but I've had such a terrible few weeks I wanted something different.
