Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Chelsea’s home encounter with managerless Newcastle makes Eden Hazard the runaway leader of this week’s Captain Poll. The Belgian’s outstanding festive form has seen him rise to the top of the midfield standings, and having scored in five of his last six at the Bridge – serving up four sets of double-figure hauls in the process – he’s earned 43% of the votes cast.

Hazard’s team-mate Diego Costa has been selected by 15% of voters. The summer signing has also scored in all but one of his last six but has delivered only one 10+ points return since Gameweek 4.

Harry Kane’s rise to Fantasy prominence is underlined by his spot in third position. After serving up an 18-point haul at home to Chelsea on New Year’s Day, just under 11% are looking to hand the Tottenham frontman the armband as he heads to Palace.

Alexis Sanchez is backed by 6% as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Stoke. With Olivier Giroud back in contention, however, the Chilean may be set for a role on the flank once again, though his last six scores at the Emirates (13, 16, 2, 9, 9, 10) underlines his potential, with only United keeping him at bay.

Raheem Sterling’s role in the centre of Liverpool’s new 3-4-3 formation has convinced 4% to back him for the trip to Sunderland. A goal and assist in his last three is hardly prolific, though the Black Cats’ run of a single clean sheet in their last seven at the Stadium of Light, compared to four shut-outs in five on the road, suggests they are more liable to concede when going on the offensive in front of their own fans.

Promoted pair Danny Ings and Charlie Austin have persuaded around 3% of Fantasy managers to select them as captain as the duo go head-to-head at Turf Moor. In spite of the R’s toils away from home, Austin has scored at the likes of Southampton, Chelsea and Arsenal and bagged a goal and assist against the Clarets in the 2-0 win at Loftus Road last month. With a single strike in seven, the goals have dried up for Ings of late, though the R’s dire form on the road offers reason for optimism here.

    RMWCT

    Pantillimon Mannone
    Hutton Terry Wisdom Bertrand Pieters
    ADM Fabregas Hazard Sanchez Boyd
    Austin Aguero Kane

    0.0 ITB.

Is it too early to put Aguero in the Wildcard team? Worth the risk ?

    1. Better keepers to have on a wc?

Foster and Myhill or Panti and Mannone

    Have wisdom and PVA.

    2. How much of an upgrade is Eriksen over Chadli?

Could use the money to upgrade keepers and wisdom to lescott.

      1) Panti and Mannnone IMO

      Look at Panti's PPG

      2) Not much, Eriksen's returns are noticeably less when Chadli plays

That's the problem. Censorship by threat is still censorship. They were targeted because they refused to be silenced by the censors. The rest of the media hid behind a weak cloak of respect that they don't do for anyone else because they don't get death threats. We need more Charlie Hebdo's.

Of the two, I'd probably pick Fab right now. The midfield options will emerge so it's an easier switch if you want to get the likes of Walcott. Less chance if this happening among the forwards.

Seen Dyche plans to make a late call on whether skipper Jason Shackell can resume skipper duties against QPR at Turf Moor this weekend.

The Clarets captain missed his first game of Dyche’s managerial reign in Monday’s FA Cup tie against Spurs, after suffering a calf injury at Newcastle on New Year’s Day.

And Shackell, along with fit-again defensive colleague Michael Duff, will now look to prove his fitness on Friday as the Clarets make their final preparations for the visit of Harry Redknapp’s Londoners.

Dyche said: “Jason was on the grass today with the medical side and hopefully he will be on the grass with us tomorrow (Friday), which means we can make a judgement call on him.

“Michael has also had a good week’s training, both physically demanding and so he comes back into the fold at least. Whether he is on the bench, we’ll see.”

Because he balked at a contract offer, lied about receiving said offer, signed with City mercenary style and then acted as if he'd signed on with NYC.

Disgusting from him and City. If I were a NYC fan I'd be raising hell.

Chelsea didn't want him anymore so they need to deal with it.

I am quite relieved that Evans has now distanced himself from those "supporters" who been abusing the woman involved. Given that the case is still under review this at least clarifies one serious cloud hanging over him.

Is Eriksen a bad pick, now that Chadli is back in the starting XI ?
Noticed Eriksen's points were in GW 12, 16 & 18 when Chadli wasnt playing.
