Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Chelsea’s home encounter with managerless Newcastle makes Eden Hazard the runaway leader of this week’s Captain Poll. The Belgian’s outstanding festive form has seen him rise to the top of the midfield standings, and having scored in five of his last six at the Bridge – serving up four sets of double-figure hauls in the process – he’s earned 43% of the votes cast.

Hazard’s team-mate Diego Costa has been selected by 15% of voters. The summer signing has also scored in all but one of his last six but has delivered only one 10+ points return since Gameweek 4.

Harry Kane’s rise to Fantasy prominence is underlined by his spot in third position. After serving up an 18-point haul at home to Chelsea on New Year’s Day, just under 11% are looking to hand the Tottenham frontman the armband as he heads to Palace.

Alexis Sanchez is backed by 6% as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Stoke. With Olivier Giroud back in contention, however, the Chilean may be set for a role on the flank once again, though his last six scores at the Emirates (13, 16, 2, 9, 9, 10) underlines his potential, with only United keeping him at bay.

Raheem Sterling’s role in the centre of Liverpool’s new 3-4-3 formation has convinced 4% to back him for the trip to Sunderland. A goal and assist in his last three is hardly prolific, though the Black Cats’ run of a single clean sheet in their last seven at the Stadium of Light, compared to four shut-outs in five on the road, suggests they are more liable to concede when going on the offensive in front of their own fans.

Promoted pair Danny Ings and Charlie Austin have persuaded around 3% of Fantasy managers to select them as captain as the duo go head-to-head at Turf Moor. In spite of the R’s toils away from home, Austin has scored at the likes of Southampton, Chelsea and Arsenal and bagged a goal and assist against the Clarets in the 2-0 win at Loftus Road last month. With a single strike in seven, the goals have dried up for Ings of late, though the R’s dire form on the road offers reason for optimism here.

Im wondering if iI should play 3-5-2 or 3-4-3

    It sums up to

    Giroud Boyd on the Bench

    Or

    Walcott ayoze on the bench.

How will there be a striker on your bench if you play 3-4-3?

Then I have Giroud and boyd. Boyd on the bench. Boyd is a midfielder, not a striker,

You said will I pkay 352 or 343

Comes down to benching Giroud and Boyd - pretty sure Giroud is a striker or Wally and Ayoze - pretty sure he is also a striker

Im on WC. its two spots. Either I play 3-5-2. And put Walcott and ayoze in my team. Bench a striker. Or I get Giroud and boyd. Bench a midfielder. Simple.

So when you say should I okay 352 or 343 you actually mean is

I'm on a wc and wondering what players to get in my team? Either way I'll be benching a striker this week but should I set it up for 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 in the future.

              Yea simple

Fab to answer your question, but I don't think it's a great question.

You get 1FT per week. Many of us also have another WC after the Jan one (not sure whether this applies to you. We should be pretty set up after the Jan WC and not really need to transfer after a week, so it's very easy to do Fab>ADM or vice versa depending on form etc.

You should be looking at the next 5-10 games IMO for this WC, no need to commit to a season keeper

    Arseblog...

6 – We’re not going to buy anyone at all. It’s now January 8th. The window closes on February 2nd and rather amusingly that’s GroundHog Day (thanks to @ArsenalWarChest for pointing that out). Could it be that we simply don’t have any intention of doing any business in this transfer window? Would it really surprise you if we went through this month without spending anything?

“Koscielny’s Achilles tendons are better, Chambers is developing well, Debuchy is fit again, Bellerin is an exciting prospect, Per has found his mojo, Arteta will be back soon, Coquelin has grasped his chance and shown his quality, and let’s not forget that when he emerges from the cryo-chamber Abou Diaby will be, literally, like a new signing.”

i heard an interesting radio interview with an ex-dutch team medic - he squarely placed the blame at Wenger's door. Says he works them too hard in pre-season and they get burnt out over Xmas. Is also normally why they start the season well. (this was in relation to RvPs injuries i think)

I think in fairness to a lot of people looking for RMT is that they don't have the chance to spend a lot of there time on this site so they probably haven't seen a lot of the days other posts so they just don't know what advice other people got on there RMT posts.

I also think if people don't want to reply to something they just shouldn't say anything. But each to there own

Again, why are people saying rest of season? Even if you don't have your other WC (many do) you get 1 FT every week, and for a while there will be no pressing transfer needs when everyone has a perfect team.

Get one for the next 5-10 games IMO, it's easy to transfer between them. Fixtures after GW 32-ish aren't nearly as important

Because of an apparent lack of strikers, Costa. A chelsea defender (or 2) will be an absolute must soon though.

Oh he does indeed. Has he been recently changed as a United player then or it's been like that all season now?

I think they changed him back to United yesterday or the day before because he's loan expired.
