Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Harry Kane’s phenomenal recent form earns him top place in our Captain Poll. Having served up 18 points against Chelsea in his previous home match, over 34% have backed the Spurs forward to get amongst the goals again, though visitors Sunderland could prove stubborn opponents – Gus Poyet’s side have four clean sheets in their last five road trips.

Fit-again Sergio Aguero sits in second spot as City prepare for the visit of Arsenal. Despite being handed just 25 minutes off the bench last weekend, over 21% are confident the Argentine will wreak havoc against the Gunners as Manuel Pellegrini looks for a repeat of the display that saw City win 6-3 at the Etihad in the same fixture last season.

Chelsea pair Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have been selected by just 6% of voters for a trip to Swansea. As we mentioned in yesterday’s Frisking the Fixtures article, all eight of the Welsh side’s clean sheets have arrived against bottom-nine opposition, suggesting the league leaders will pose Garry Monk’s side problems aplenty as they look to retain their two-point advantage over City at the summit. Hazard has delivered a goal or assist in five of his last six – including back-to-back away strikes – though Costa’s form on the road is a worry, with a single goal in his previous five.

Somewhat surprisingly, the red-hot form of Alexis Sanchez has persuaded a mere 4% of voters to back him with the armband. City have conceded twice to Burnley and Sunderland in their last two at the Etihad and face a major task to keep the Chilean on the periphery this Sunday.

Angel Di Maria (5%) is the favoured United option for the trip to QPR. Harry Redknapp’s side are unbeaten in seven in front of their own fans, though, and won’t make it easy for the Argentine, who has managed a mere three assists in his last eight appearances. Wayne Rooney earns 3% of votes, yet has managed only goal and two assists away from Old Trafford all season.

Elsewhere, the likes of Raheem Sterling and Danny Ings have also persuaded 3% to hand them the armband ahead of showdowns with Villa and Palace respectively. The latter’s home comforts came to fruition against QPR last weekend and he’ll be looking for more of the same as the Eagles roll up to Turf Moor – Ings, impressively, has now returned points in seven of his last ten appearances.

He looked good during pre-season. Remember Liverpool fans excited and billing him as the next 'Sterling'. In terms of being an fast paced attacker to be given a 1st team shot.

Who sits out? Lazar is picking up form and Hendo is on the other wing. I guess he moves into the midfield if Gerrard is ruled out. But it feels wrong playing Ibe as a wingback IMO.

He is able to play the striker position 😉

We could see a shift in formation with Sterling playing behind him (if they go diamond) or moving out to the side.

That's only really an option though, I don't fully expect it to happen at all but there's a reason he has been recalled.

    Jagielka (West Brom)
    Wisdom (Everton)
    Clyne (Newcastle)
    Janmaat (Southampton)
    Cissokho (Liverpool)

I am currently on benching Cissokho and Wisdom/Jagielka, but cant decide between the two. Everton should be the stronger team on paper, but West brom got a new manager which seems to have helped them.

These Gundogan and Hummels to Arsenal rumors... I know it's just asking for heartbreak to even listen to them but they would be such excellent signings.

Therefore, Arsene will probably only sign Bielik

it's made up by the press to get the arsenal fans excited. When they don't end up signing everyone blames wenger.

The press hates wenger and enjoys the arsenal fans getting on his back. Sad thing is alot of arsenal fans are morons (not saying you) who don't understand this.

RMT uses 100% probability of playing when recommending a captain, whereas the score you see for Aguero and Kane represents a stat based on their likely percentage of 90 minutes. Kane is currently ahead in those terms (he's more likely to play more minutes) so has the higher RMT value but RMT has Aguero ahead of him in terms of the captaincy due to Aguero being superior should both players play the full 90mins.

People seem to be a little too eager to bring in united players. I know they have good fixtures but they are utterly crap at the moment.

I for one will be playing the form game and keeping silva. If united hit some form and start playing a system that works I might think about one of their players. Until then nope.

It's certainly a gamble, but the fixtures are just so tasty that I think it's a reasonable one. I'm 95% sure I'm bringing in Rooney, and hoping RVP is out/RVP being out helps him.

I have a couple of United players but I wouldn't be bringing them in. Finding it tough to ditch them given the fixture but if they keep playing that formation I won't own any of them going forward, not for a fair while any way.

Yeah, I'm certainly wary. The safe move would be to play the long game and just buy Aguero, but since I'm planning on saving the January wildcard as long as possible I'm betting on Rooney doing more damage @ QPR, vs Leicester than Kun vs Arsenal, @ Chelsea.

          100% agree.

I won't pretend he did the job brilliantly or anything like that, he made some big errors. But so did the players, a lot of them clearly weren't even bothered listening to him and turned on him which has gone unpunished. Certainly, a lot of them went down in my estimation.

Would like to see a Moyes side playing with ADM, Falcao, Herrera, Blind and the likes. I know some will say about how he might not have lured them to the club etc. but I think a lot of it was Woodward. That's just my thinking.

I had Alderweireld but i've lost both him and Azpi so i'm selling Azpi because he's going to drop first and he allowes to get Bertrand if i want him while Alderweireld only allows me to get Gardos who's 0.2 cheaper.

Yeah I think Bertrand is the sound bet. Gardos will only cause you grief even short term

Stupid to do Ivan + Zaba --> Terry + X now, because of the imminent price falls/rises? WC next week or after

fonte has nearly double the bonus than bertrand and cheaper also. which one you think is the better option? bertrand would need to keep scoring / assisting. fonte so far no goals/assists, he might also get some.

i've been on Bertand all week, but just thinking about Fonte for the bonus.

Think i'll prob stick with Bertie for that bit of attacking potential, but Fonte equally valid.

Looking at this for next GW (1FT, 2.9 in bank, not yet used WC):

    Foster
    Zabaleta - Terry - Dummett (N Taylor - Yun)
di Maria - Hazard - Sanchez - Sigurdsson (Boyd)
    Costa - Kane - Austin

Don't want to yet use wildcard - should I prioritise improving defence or get Silva in for Sig?

    Heaton
    Baines Ivan Coleman
Cazorla Hazard Sterling Fabregas ADM (c)
    Kane Bojan

Tis the week of the differential 🙂

Not especially was more as an enabler to get ADM but Leics and QPR juicy fixtures.
        Moses a good gamble
