Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Harry Kane’s phenomenal recent form earns him top place in our Captain Poll. Having served up 18 points against Chelsea in his previous home match, over 34% have backed the Spurs forward to get amongst the goals again, though visitors Sunderland could prove stubborn opponents – Gus Poyet’s side have four clean sheets in their last five road trips.

Fit-again Sergio Aguero sits in second spot as City prepare for the visit of Arsenal. Despite being handed just 25 minutes off the bench last weekend, over 21% are confident the Argentine will wreak havoc against the Gunners as Manuel Pellegrini looks for a repeat of the display that saw City win 6-3 at the Etihad in the same fixture last season.

Chelsea pair Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have been selected by just 6% of voters for a trip to Swansea. As we mentioned in yesterday’s Frisking the Fixtures article, all eight of the Welsh side’s clean sheets have arrived against bottom-nine opposition, suggesting the league leaders will pose Garry Monk’s side problems aplenty as they look to retain their two-point advantage over City at the summit. Hazard has delivered a goal or assist in five of his last six – including back-to-back away strikes – though Costa’s form on the road is a worry, with a single goal in his previous five.

Somewhat surprisingly, the red-hot form of Alexis Sanchez has persuaded a mere 4% of voters to back him with the armband. City have conceded twice to Burnley and Sunderland in their last two at the Etihad and face a major task to keep the Chilean on the periphery this Sunday.

Angel Di Maria (5%) is the favoured United option for the trip to QPR. Harry Redknapp’s side are unbeaten in seven in front of their own fans, though, and won’t make it easy for the Argentine, who has managed a mere three assists in his last eight appearances. Wayne Rooney earns 3% of votes, yet has managed only goal and two assists away from Old Trafford all season.

Elsewhere, the likes of Raheem Sterling and Danny Ings have also persuaded 3% to hand them the armband ahead of showdowns with Villa and Palace respectively. The latter’s home comforts came to fruition against QPR last weekend and he’ll be looking for more of the same as the Eagles roll up to Turf Moor – Ings, impressively, has now returned points in seven of his last ten appearances.

    Good evening everyone.
Seeing as I won't have an internet connection/TV from tomorrow morning until Monday evening, I'd really appreciate any feedback on my template-esque WC team.

    Panti / Krul
    Clyne / Terry / Hutton / Cameron/ Wisdom
    Alexis / Fab / Haz / Sterling / Boyd
    Kun / Austin / Kane
    (0.6m itb)

Unsure over my goalkeepers + Sterling (although I think Sturridge back will benefit him)
(Yes, I will have no knowledge of any results etc. until Monday evening)
    Thanks in advance!

Personally, I wouldn't have Sterling and I only run with one cheap goalkeeper to save funds as rotation never really works out for me... maybe that would free up enough funds for ADM?

      Also Hutton --> PvA imo

Not ADM's biggest fan - granted I amn't Sterling's either but I prefer him to the other options available!

Depends on the rest of your defence and whether you have Kane I reckon. Both combos will likely do well.

Long post warning… Sigurdsson owners, are you keeping him in your wildcard teams?

A few weeks ago I’d have said this was daft but I’m considering selling him for Puncheon. Looking at the next 6 fixtures, Swansea have CHE, sot, SUN, wba, MUN, bur compared to Palace’s run of bur, EVE, lei, NEW, ARS, whm. Palace clearly have better fixtures. Aside from the Burnley away game, all of Swansea’s next 6 could potentially be low scoring affairs with Sunderland and West Brom, on paper weak opponents, being tight defensively. Furthermore, Swansea have scored only 1 goal in 9 of the last 10 league games, with the exception being 2 goals at home to QPR. The loss of Bony could also have an adverse effect, although Siggy might now be on penalties which could offset a fall in assists.

The goalscoring history for Palace over the last 10 is considerably worse but isn’t as relevant with a new manager focused on attack. Looking at the stats in the members area, Palace were one of the most threatening teams last week. Of course it’s only a sample of 1 game but it seems Pardew intends to back up his comments about attacking play. Puncheon had a very good spell around this time last season (albeit one that was helped by penalties which he no longer has) after a defensive manager in Pulis took charge, maybe he could be in for another decent run.

Looking at the fixtures and other data is making me very tempted to sell Siggy for Puncheon but I’m really not sure. I thought he would be in my team pretty much all season. There’s been a few ‘Siggy out’ bandwagons so far this season. Each time I thought they were bad ideas and each time he was soon or immediately scoring/assisting again. He cost most of us 6m and is 5th overall for midfielders. He’s nailed on, has set pieces and has never disappointed as a Swansea player. Swansea might not be scoring many but he has 50% goal involvement. When other midfielders around this price have good runs, they usually end pretty quickly. Sigurdsson is consistently scoring and it’s rare we get a midfielder this good for 6m.

Anyone got thoughts on this? With the fixtures it looks like Siggy could be in for a run of mostly 2 pointers whereas Puncheon could do well with the new manager boost and generous fixtures. With the top 10k ownership stats (43.6% vs 0.01%) there’s definitely an opportunity to climb the rankings with Puncheon but selling Siggy feels like a big risk. Worried I could be making a big mistake if I go through with it and I don’t need the extra money.

I've bought Puncheon in for Siggy on my WC. Fixtures were the main reason. I think Puncheon has the opportunity to score more points than Siggy in the coming games. Hope Im right. I would have went with Chadli but I can't squeeze him in.

Yeah looking at fixtures is pretty much what led me to the above. Problem with Chadli, as much as I like him as an option, is that he'll just be another blank player to deal with in GW27 assuming the league cup semi finals go as expected.

There's a hot topic but Chelsea and Spurs are clear favourites to make the final. That would leave blanks for Chelsea, Leciester, Spurs and QPR. With most having triple Chelsea and Kane, along with Austin, Chadli and cheap Leicester bench players all being popular picks its potentially carnage.

Tottenham's and Chelsea's fixture most probably.

I was set on selling Siggy for ages, but I think I've decided to keep him.

I think part of what you say is right, other mids will go on runs outscoring him, but you have to be on the right one at the right time, whereas Siggy will just keep ticking over (and for all we now could now be on pens). The fixture look tough but Swansea have only failed to score at home once this season and that was with 10 men against currently the best defence in the league

Fixtures and immediate form were key factors in me coming to the same conclusion earlier this week. I think Sigurdsson is one to consider in a few weeks time but Puncheon offers more I think over the next four or five.

a lot for me depends on value (though 0,4 isn't exactly a lot) but I'd rather not take him out with a plan to get him back, as you never know what will come up, I'm just gonna leave him there

I sold Siggy this week and regret it. I can see him stepping up and partly filling the goals void left by Bony.

I'd play it safe with Siggy.

I can see myself immediately regretting it as well. He had a lot of shots in Bony's absence last week.

Is this really about Siggy? Seems more like a case for Puncheon.

Sometimes I think we overplay the fixtures and not the actual player.
Siggy is consistently much better in pretty much every aspect, decision making, passing, finishing. Also plays on a better squad.
I got rid way back when, but I would def ship now mainly because of Bony. Who is he going to assist to?

I just wouldn't get Puncheon. I know he is fresh in your memory from last week, but he has scored 2 goals the whole season. Peep at his other attacking stats, like shots on target. I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.

Its about both, was happy to keep Siggy but when looking at the fixtures I got the idea to ship for Puncheon. Agree completely on Siggy being the better player, I have a level of confidence in him that I'll never have for Puncheon. I can just see Swansea struggling to score in the upcoming games while Palace could score well, particularly against relegation rivals.

Sometimes you have to look at the teams as a whole and their likely results. I don't mean that as an argument for 'coverage' but if I think Swansea will struggle to score then by default I'm expecting mostly 2 pointers for Siggy.

I'm sticking with Siggy over Downing as my 4/5th mid. I think he'll still get it done without Bony. I mean he was getting it done with Danny Graham up top. He'll probably score more goals without Bony in the side.

I don't know, not entirely convinced by those numbers from an attacking standpoint. Palace's opponents look far more likely to leak goals imo.

How nailed is Moreno for the next 2 gameweeks?

Looking for a 2 game week punt and I like Moreno over Skrtel because he's OOP and I like him over Baines because of Everton's poor form and the fact he just played 120 mins. Bit worried about Moreno being benched though.

    Thoughts on this?

    For next weeks WC:

    Silva Foster Cameron
    OR
    Johnson Curtois Clyne

Cameron would be in Rotation with Hutton PVA Wisdom Wasiliewski so that he wouldn't habe to aquire all the CS' alone..

Right, ive had a reshuffle after reading that Mirallas is playing with an ankle problem.

    Forster
    Terry, Ivanovic, Bertrand
    Hazard, Sanchez, Silva, Di Maria
    Aguero, Kane, Austin

    Hamer, Boyd, PVA, Baird

    2 questions
    1. Forster+ Hamer+ Baird or Panti+ Krul + Wisdom?
    2. Austin or Ings?
