With gremlins in the machine, the clock was ticking on this week’s ScoutCast as Granville and I are hurried into service.

Displaying all the urgency and determination of Ade Akinfenwa at the end of season buffet, we waste no time in driving through the ScoutCast regulars, whilst weighing the merits of when to swoop for a certain “essential” Argentine.

While this week’s low fat episode may come as a treat for some, we’re working towards a return to the full fat, high cholesterol live Hangout from next week. Keep ‘em peeled for news on that.

For now, grab this rapid recording via this link or stream the swiftness via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ok taking people's advice on board would you prefer A or B?

A). Forster, Hutton, Cameron, Fabregas (Have Hazard, No Costa)

    Or

    B). Krul, Trippier, Bertrand, Sterling

      A, definitely.

That's mostly because I much prefer Cesc to Sterling though, which I don't think you do?

So if it was me I'd basically have A except with a cheaper keeper + better defender.

    Ok lets get serious.

Best FT punt for the next 2 weeks?

    A) Austin > Rooney
    B) Downing > Puncheon
    C) Dummett > Baines
    D) Silva > ADM

Silva never does great with Kun playing. And ADM > Rooney.

Is anyone doubling up on Sun defence at all? (play 1 away, 2 at home). All advice i've got has been not to...but i can't shake that feeling that:

    BUR
    QPR
    WBA
    AVL
    NEW
    CPL

are too good home fixtures to ignore?

Is it that cut and dry with Rooney, given that with RVP set to miss the trip to QPR, he should be playing a much more advanced role. All hypothetical, I suppose.

Too big of a risk to go with ADM as a C ?

Other candidates are Kane Aguero and Azzar

    what do you think ?

    1. Walsh
      • 12 Years
      11 years, 1 month ago

I think so. He showed what poor form he is in against Southampton. I think he will come good soon as he is world class but I wouldn't gamble the captaincy on him right now.

    2. Goodnight Kiwi
      • 12 Years
      11 years, 1 month ago

Exactly same boat Arctic. Jumping between ADM, Kane and Kun myself.
ADM as Walshy mentioned is currently out of form. Very low captaincy
Kun may not play 90, but will probably score. Low captaincy
Kane, up against a Sundy defence that is keeping cleanies. High captaincy

Think I'm going to go with Kane in the end as most above me will be captaining him I feel, safer.

it's one of the reasons why we should captain Dimaria Or Aguero, the low captaincy.

the same as last GW when i should've gone for Sanchez instead of Hazard.

Captaining one of the best players in the world, OOP, against QPR, who he scored 14pts against last time? Yeah, real risky...

      1. Walsh
        • 12 Years

That is quite the assumption that he will start up top as striker again after United just managed a total of zero shots on goal in their last game.

Southampton parking the bus though, what team can get through that...

Doesn't matter where he plays, he'll be high up the pitch in every attack.

      Was thinking about it too.

He was poor against Southampton but A) he was only just back from injury and B) Southampton have an excellent defence.

He has a low enough ownership to be a (relative) differential and even fewer people will captain him so if it works out he'll be a big plus. Plus even if it doesn't work out you probably won't be hurt too badly as the captaincy is going to be quite spread this week, I think.

Ultimately though it comes down to the fact that QPR are a poor team and he is a very good player.

    What a benching headache.

    Eriksen, Silva, Hazard, Sanchez, Downing
    Costa, Kane, Austin

Nailed on starters for me are Hazard, Sanchez, Eriksen, Costa & Kane.

Think it's easy to make a case for the other 3:

    1) Silva - goal threat will reduce with Kun back and hardest fixture
    2) Downing - least goal threat
    3) Austin - tricky fixture, but huge goal threat especially at home

Have to wonder about the state of moral at utd

So far this season the dutchman has

    1) Slagged off his entire defence
    2) Left Falcao out of one of biggest games of season
    3) Plays Rooney out of position
    4) Changes system every week
    5) Blames players when it goes wrong , rather than his ridiculous tactics

Its all going to end in tears. His biggest blunder was last week. Southampton are probably there biggest rivals for a top four spot, and he tries an untested tactic of playing Di Maria as a striker, or at least it looked like he was trying to be. Rooney had a terrible game, and while he is the capt he has to say nice things, inside he must be thinking wtf, Falcao dosent play and im still not the striker

Then he has the cheek to blame the players

    1. Walsh
      • 12 Years

I don't get 4. Has he not just been playing the same 352 week in week out for quite a while now? Seems he just keeps chopping and changing personnel within that failed system week in week out.

      1. Not Irish

He's changing the roles all the time though. It's like the ole throwing sh!t against the wall and see what sticks approach. He doesn't have a clue what he's doing.

Right, that's what I said re: personnel...he keeps trying to fit the square pegs that are the players on the roster into the round hole that is the 352 formation.

Every week? When was the last game they did not go 352. Not being antagonistic, just genuinely confused about it. I thought they have been 352 exclusively for quite a while now.

IDK a lot of game weeks have come to pass in less than two months. Seems that the formation has been pretty stable to me however much of a failure it has been. The variations within it as you mention, though, is a foreign concept to me.

            He has played 4 4 2 four times with variation 4 4 1 1
            plenty like you say of 3 5 2 but with differences , at times 3 5 1 1 etc

used 31 players , often out of position
constantly trying to fit square pegs in round holes and blaming the pegs

We've played the classic Ajax 352 with Carrick in the "3" position, a more defensive version which played more like 532 with Fella and Carrick in midfield and what was really more of a 343 with Wilson partnering RvP. They have all looked a mess but we've rode our luck.

Also the latest version with Rooney and Carrick in midfield plays more like 523. It's unbelievably shite.

This also relates to my least favorite term - narrative. The press just pigeon holes managers by type and then extrapolates from there.

      Mourinio- clever
      Pelegrini- aloof
      LVG- tactical genius
      Wenger- Clueless

LVG is not being judged by the same standards as others as he is obviously so clever and working on a master plan that us mortals couldnt even fathom so why should he bother explaining.

I wouldn't bet on it. I think Giroud is far and away the best of the mid-priced striker options although I am not terribly keen on him. Seems like it's got to be either Costa or one of the non-Kane budget strikers.

        I think I agree, and it's pushing me towards a 3-5-2

        Sanchez - Haz - Fabregas - AdM - Chadli
        Aguero - Kane

Feels like this could work as a front 7..

Still think it's folly to not go 343. I'd rather get a more budget 5th mid and beef up defense. Austin has proven that he is startable week in week out if you decide to retain him. For me, anyway 🙂
