We’ve a couple of Premier League encounters to tide us over this afternoon. First up, Arsenal entertain Villa at the Emirates as Arsene Wenger’s men look for a fifth win in six attempts – the likes of Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud have earned plenty of new investors over the last couple of days as a result of Alexis Sanchez’ hamstring problems. With Villa failing to score in each of their last five, the Gunners’ prospects of a third straight shut-out also look likely here.

Later in the day, Southampton welcome under-strength Swansea to St Mary’s at 4pm. Eljero Elia was drafted in by 100,000+ FPL managers on the back of a double at Newcastle last time out but with Sadio Mane back from the African Cup of Nations, the Dutchman’s new owners will be eagerly awaiting Ronald Koeman’s team sheet. Like Arsenal, the Saints will be optimistic of a clean sheet today – Swansea are devoid of the suspended Gylfi Sigurdsson and have scored more than a single goal in just one of the last 11 Gameweeks.

Who would you sell to get Bellerin?

    Wisdom, Terry, Bertrand, PVA, Trippier.

Why There Needs To Be A Paying-Members-Only Forum,

a dissertation by Pepereina Pizza of the cold Midwest

    1)
    the LOL@ posts

    2)
the noobs using this place like twitter to tell everyone what they need their ML rival's players to score,

    3)
the cool-story-bros making sure to announce what they need their own players to do, who needs to get the assist, and about 800 other things that NOBODY CARES ABOUT

    4)
there's absolutely no time to sort the wheat from the chaff in a single page of comments, and have any discourse (which is the whole point of having a forum in the first place) before these dingleberries (see reasons 1-3, above) push the conversations to ... a new page,
    leading to

    5)
... reposts by people who were unlucky enough to have posted their thoughtful comments and well meaning posts at the bottom of a page that was overrun by the inanity here on the weekend

The only time on this forum for these past 2 seasons to participate in meaningful conversations or insights is the deadzone.
The forum has become a victim of its own popularity. NO AMOUNT of moderation can stem the tide.
Perhaps it is time to adapt.

ANyone interested enough in the site to pay money to support it, or just to access the statistics and members content would benefit from conversation in a noise-free "adults' table" and I'm sorry to put it that way, but posting here is like having several young children. I'm here for Scouting Fantasy Football, not to sit at the kids table.

Naturally, I will need to repost this answer, as there will have been 4 new pages of "content" in the time it took to put my reply together.

perhaps we need a "shout box" for the tourette's posts. Would that help? I've seen them on other interest forums.

I know that a site revamp has been discussed (or even in the works already) but having one forum for all chatter makes the forum really, really difficult to consume. There's a LOT of content that goes by the wayside.

Aye this is a bit premature, I see little to none of this in the DZ like you said and it's why I avoid the day zone on match day for the most part.

I understand where you're coming from Pizza in any case, logical points. But, I can't agree with making this forum a Membership only deal imo, it's not only non-members who post this, there are also paying members here who post mainly drivel and LOL posts on match days.

Perhaps such an extreme measure isn't called for imo, I certainly wouldn't like that since I certainly don't consider myself to be one of those said posters. On the contrary, plus there other factors to be taken into account as to why one can't play for the site. Unnecessary to prejudice a group like that mate.

        1. Pepereina Pizza
          • 12 Years
          11 years, 5 months ago

privilege for paying members =/= prejudice against poor people. Let's not get our pitchforks out.
PLUS you ignore the fact that this very thing is already being done! Yes, right under your nose is a one-way conversation: members-only articles and opinion/analysis pieces.

So having a members-only discussion area is not a new idea, and certainly not an "extreme measure"

The members here pay for the site, and support the efforts, risks, livelihood, and entrepreneurship of the owners. And this site's server, for that matter.
We dont' pay from the kindness of our hearts -- we pay because we get something back from it. ACCESS. Access to stats, access to members-only articles.

Paying members make it possible for the chatter and the trash talk and the revelry and all of the things that I may or may not enjoy....

Paying members have made this site a resource that non-paying members can utilize and benefit from.

I'm not getting my pitchfork out bud 😐
I'm well aware of the membership privileges already as I'm looking to pay for one next year.

Good luck in any case, I'll be sticking to the dead zone where good discussions and quality posts are a plenty

I understand your frustration, but I don't see this as the solution, as this behaviour is not limited to non-paying members. Also, during a live game there is always going tobe 'banter'.

      1. Pepereina Pizza
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 5 months ago

Paying members are free to post in the non-member forums..

I'm not saying this is a 100% clinical, win-win solution. I am saying that it would make things more beneficial for members, should they choose to have their conversations away from the maddening crowd.

      2. Pepereina Pizza
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 5 months ago

furthermore, my idea's intention is not to limit this "behavior", but to isolate it away from those who don't care for it, and whom are willing to pay money to avoid it.

        First class seats on planes.
        Front row at a concert.
Season tickets at a sports venue.

this isn't exactly a new idea, and we members already pay for other privileges. see my other reply, above.

    Di Maria, Silva or Sterling?
Di Maria historically has always lacked goals.

Cheers. Feels a bit uncomfortable not having any Utd with Burnley (H) coming up but their pts are so distributed. Rooney, Falcao, Di Maria, Mata, RvP, etc.

With City it's Silva and Aguero generally.

I like Mane, but look at the price difference - they are both getting into the same forward positions

There's casuals and then there's people who notice players are scoring all the time and smartly get them in

people who say "casuals" normally think very highly of themselves and that their opinions carry more weight somehow.
Type of guys who would prefer to say "amateur" so they are pros

depends on how loosely u apply the distinction. like there are the people who only look at their team once a week at most and give nary a thought to fixtures or team news, or even form, really. those i consider casual

i've been playing for years. in cash leagues for most of it. there are friends of mine who lay their money down but then attend to their team on average, every 0. 75 GWs. they make no attempt to learn anything that'd give them an edge and just disengage from it really. i think that a great number of players are like that. lack either the time or the interest. their involvement with the whole experience being nothing more than casual

Wonder if the Soton players that left (Shaw, Chambers, Lambert, Lovren, ...) wish they hadn't. Know Lambert has the Liverpool connection, and money talks, but Soton is something special.
