Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Eden Hazard (26%) leads the way in a closely-contested race this week. The Belgian has managed just two assists in his last four at Stamford Bridge but will fancy his chances of returning to form – visitors Burnley have conceded at least two goals in each of their last six road trips. With that in mind, it’s perhaps surprising that only 17% have opted for Diego Costa – the Spain international has found the net in eight of his nine home appearances so far.

Sergio Aguero is just behind Hazard on 25%. The City striker ended his goal drought with a brace against Stoke last time out and is expected to recover from a minor back problem to welcome Newcastle to the Etihad. With Yaya Toure back on board and Samir Nasri and David Silva both in form, the Argentine will be looking to improve upon a surprisingly poor home record – Aguero has found the net in just three of nine outings in front of his own fans.

Despite serving up five double-figure hauls in the last eight, Harry Kane is backed by only 11% of Fantasy managers as Spurs welcome West Ham to the Lane. Sam Allardyce’s side have managed a single away clean sheet all season and will struggle to keep their hosts at bay, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look for a morale boost prior to next weekend’s Capital One Cup final against Chelsea.

With that quartet hogging most of the votes, there are a number of differential candidates for those willing to gamble with the armband. Romelu Lukaku is backed by just under 4% at home to a Leicester defence that has shipped at least two goals in eight of their last nine road trips, whilst Arsenal trio Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud have been largely overlooked ahead of a visit to Palace.

Just thinking out loud here , if I replace Oscar gw27 for a half decent mid like Mane, it means a -4 next week to get Eriksen, how about RVP to Bony ? Would mean a double up with Kun, would both play though given that it's Leicester home ? And can both play regularly together or would it be one or the other ?

Remains to be seen but I reckon they will.

Be lovely if they did , may just take the gamble , the gamble effectively starts gw27 though, would you rather Oscar to Cork and play him away to Burnley then get Erik for free next week, or Oscar to Mane and then do Moses RVP to Bony Erik -4 gw28 ?

The former I guess. Not sure why you'd want Cork though.

Oscar to Cork gw27 means playing XI that week

And leaves just enough (.2 to allow rises for)

Boyd to Eriksen gw28 for free

So swapping Boyd to Cork as 5th mids really but getting a decent fixture out of Cork and scraping the .1 needed to get Eriksen for free gw28

Austin also an option for some DGW fun.

Depends how city line up and bony slots in next 2 weeks

I've thought about Austin , it's just the fixtures though , very tough, can see a 4 pointer for those 2 games , Bony and Sturridge are the tasty looking ones , LEI and BUR

I'm completely out of the FPL loop and i'm sure its been asked to death but... is Che / Lei looking unlikely for Gw28 considering its just 2 weeks away, surely would have had to be announced this week if they wanted that date, right?

I've been very impressed with that show so far. Had low expectations to be fair but I've really enjoyed these first three episodes. Looks like a fine show. I just kinda hate how you know what the end game is with his whole character's story line will be. Just filling in the blanks really, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

It really is a great piece of work so far, cinematography, plot, and great characters as well. And aye, I haven't see Breaking Bad yet myself, but I can see why it may not be as enticing if you know how this ends up.

Is the general gist of this show the same as Breaking Bad though?

Surprised that Gerrard had the lack of discipline to voice that on air. Very poor by him and really just leads to a load of problems for his manager in having to now deal with this further in the media in the coming days. Almost as if he forgot he was still a LFC player and not a full fledged pundit.

I think his attitude has been shocking this season. If you don't agree with or like the manager oh well. Giggs and Scholes were content to play lesser roles for us yet he wants the show to revolve around him at all times. He and Sturridge the main culprits today yet everyone talking about Balo. Ridiculous.

Yep. Clearly bitter about being managed properly, for the first time and finally, this season instead of last season when he was given 90' carte blanche at the despair of his teammates having to constantly cover for him being out of position, slow, and gassed in general for much of the latter stages in the season. Pity, really, and it is speculative but can only imagine that the behind the doors locker room situation is not ideal for Liverpool if Gerrard spouts this sort of garbage on air.

Yup. The straw that broke the camel's back was the interview he gave claiming he'd have signed had a deal been offered earlier. I mean how childish can a grown man be? He and Terry should get a room.

It was obvious what had happened. He was right to say what he said and Balo needs to be disciplined accordingly. Hendo was Liverpool's captain and next on the list after Gerrard. Balotelli needs to know his place, he's not done enough at Liverpool to do whatever he wants and all he'll do is get people's backs up. I'd love go see us sell him in the summer.

I'm a Liverpool fan who knows the importance of harmony. He's not a team player and seemingly never will be. If he stays for a few seasons and shows that he can be a part of the team and respect people around him then I'll be delighted but we don't need people upsetting the camp.

Not really no. Gerrard going at the end of the season will be good for Liverpool going forward but Gerrard has earned his respect at Liverpool and will always be remembered as a Liverpool legend.

Which is clouding your view majorly. I'll be honest. If your manager think's Henderson should be taking that peno ahead of Balo he deserves the mess he has on his hands.

Judge Hendo on his penalty taking ability after seeing more of him. No liverpool fan that I've spoken to are on Balotelli's side with regards to this. Don't get me wrong, when he stepped up to take it I was completely confident that he would score but it's his attitude that's the problem.

Gerrard has no judgement. Think of the trophies he could have won if he'd joined Chelsea when he had the chance.

You would've won less than you did.

Not a self-prescribed smart person but I think he will be afforded a bench cameo in light of his recent comments on his own fitness levels.

i am not a bony fan at MCI. I agree with walsh......the stiker spot is too important to have to worry about weather or not he will play every week. I would wait a few weeks before i would consider him

I actually am a Bony fan at City, just think it's too premature to get him in right now. I'd be surprised if there isn't a 3ish week template where everyone has Aguero and Bony in their forward lines this season.

I agree, I think he'll be a great signing and he'll be a regular starter. At his price, if he starts firing he'll be a bargain.

    What should I do?

    Panti, Foster
    Terry, Bertrand, Monreal, PvA, Wisdom
    Sanchez, ADM, Mane, Hazard, Albrighton
    Aguero, Kane, Giroud

    1 FT. 1.3 ITB

    ADM ---> Yaya?

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.

Spurs unlucky not to win today. But you have to question Poch's team selection. Now has to go for it in the return leg away, three days before the C1C final against Chelsea.
