Captaincy deliberations and navigating the impending double and blank Gameweeks continue to vex the community. Our posters and community writers were on hand to offer some advice on issues ranging from long terms tactics to differentials. Elsewhere, we look at the crystal ball gazing potential of our Members tables and find that the Scout Picks are more than holding their own against some of the community’s top managers.

The Community Articles

After a disastrous Gameweek 25, in which all three of his picks failed to score or assist, The Puntmaster is hopeful that his Gameweek 26 trio can make amends. The prospects of his punts and many other key players were the subject of Matthew_1991’s detailed preview of Gameweek 26. This offers not only a match by match guide but also a handy look at the players to watch out for in the Gameweek.

Another hopeful crystal ball gazer this week is Clam-a-Ram who won this week’s Scout Picks community champion vote and will be hoping to further close the gap between the community and myself, Mark and Paul.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

It is a testament to Harry Kane’s rise in our affections that he is now ranked alongside the likes of Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero in the top four of this week’s Captain Poll. Demi was on hand to look over the pluses and minuses of each for those still undecided as to where to place the armband.

According to our discussion on Diego Costa, who returns to Premier League action this weekend after a three-match suspension, the Chelsea striker is unlikely to be drafted in for Gameweek 26 to stake a claim for the captaincy. Even though on paper this home tie with Burnley looks tailor-made for Costa to profit, a blank Gameweek 27 and the fact that he is just two bookings shy of a ban are putting many off.

Another unlikely to gain the armband this week is Jermain Defoe. With concerns over his fitness and Sunderland’s poor recent form prompting some of his owners to look elsewhere, JK supplied this hot topic discussion for those looking to replace the former England striker.

Rather than focus on this weekend’s round of fixtures, many community members are thinking ahead to Gameweek 27’s blank fixture for Chelsea, Tottenham, QPR and Leicester, as well as double Gameweek 28. As Perchino explained, the FA Cup is set to produce a number of other blank and double Gameweeks to contend with before the season is over.

This week also proved a time to look back over the season, with Ludo sparking an interesting discussion looking back at Gameweek 1 to find out which players are still in our squads from that first week.

This month has seen the launch of some new team analysis tools for our Members. We thought it was a good chance to ask Members and non-Members alike what other new features they’d like to see across the site. There was further chat about statistic tools in Sinik’s hot topic about the extent to which we rely on number crunching to help make decisions.

With many in the community dabbling in Fantasy Cricket during the World Cup The 12th man started this discussion on other Fantasy sports games.  Basketball, American Football and Rugby were revealed as mong the most popular other Fantasy sports to rival our enjoyment of Fantasy Football.

Elsewhere, our partners Mondogoal brought us news of an exciting cash prize opportunity for the community this week. Full details can be found here.

The Members Tables

Crystal ball gazers are advised to check out my assist imminent and goal imminent tables to see the players with strong underlying statistics to suggest that a significant points haul is on the horizon. Doosra’s Deadly Assassins table continues to be the most popular among members and proves anther useful guide to the potential high scorers this Gameweek.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

The Scout Picks march on, thanks in no small part to our community champions’ input each week. At the Gameweek 25 mark, FFScout took pride of place at the summit of @OFCProdigy’s Scout Picks Challenge where the community pits itself against our picks. In second place was Mookie, with Aliminator and Sticky Mockwell in third.

i do not think the transfer window opens until the price changes as the price fluctuations are based on the players performance during the prior GW. not sure i like it, but will give it a go.

    Guys, what to do:

    Foster
    Naughton | PVA | Zouma
    Haz | Mané | Sánchez | Silva
    Gru | Kane | Kun

    Krul | Caz | Baird ❗ | Dummet ❗

    2 FT, 0.1 ITB

    Thinking Dummett ➡ Bruce

Next week, Zouma ➡ Haidara/Alder, then Rose (+Eriksen)

Clyne scored against Liverpool last time. And that was at Anfield. And, he's just about "due" a goal I should think. I am stuck on whether to start him or Hutton, so you can see which way I'm leaning. 🙂

          • 11 Years

I can't see this being a low scoring affair, let alone Saints winning.
Not sure about "due" theory tbh, may have good underlying stats to get an assist though, I'll give you that.

I would be very surprised to see Saints get a clean sheet

I'm actually leaning the other way and thinking it will be low scoring. Guess we'll see. Could go any which way. That's the beauty of sport.

I'm selling Baird and I need my replacement for GW27 and GW28 - but not this week. I'd appreciate your thoughts on picking between these two:

    A) Kyle Naughton 4.3 (bur, tot) - Slightly better defensive stats over the past 3 weeks
    B) Craig Dawson 4.4 (SOT, avl) - A little more offensive threat over the past 3 weeks

    Thanks!

Natural goal scorer though. Towards the end of the season, you'll find only the quality goal scorers tend to excel. Besides, Jose must have given him a bit of heads up to cool it with the suspension tightrope.

    Yaya - liv/LEI/bur

Usually African players tend to have a hangover for a period of time so it could be risky. Personally the only time I'd consider Yaya is if Kun is injured as he'd be on penalties.

Most importantly, Hazard could hurt you any particular week.

I'd consider getting rid only for Sanchez or Ozil.

Does anyone think Defoe will complete 90?

Does calf injury recover fast? I think he started training on Thurs?

Not sure. He's an injury machine, so I just decided to toss him out of my team.

I've asked a lot lately but no closer to deciding, please help!
    - 2FT and 0.8 itb (saving one FT)

    A. Baird to Bruce (bench, or possibly play ahead of PVA)
    B. Albrighton to Cork/Ibe (bench)
    C. Falcao to Costa (likely to be my captain, would leave me with 3 Che and 1 Spur for the blank)

    Panti
    Terry - Clyne - PvA
    Hazard - Sanchez - ADM - Puncheon
    Falcao - Kun - Kane

    Hamer -- Naughton - Albrighton - Baird

What do you plan next week? Using both FTs or playing short?

Both if I have to, if I feel I have a good enough team with just 10 I may still save one

Seems B isn't an option. C and sort Baird next week & play 10 seems your plan.

A and B over two weeks
      Pesonally-
      Baird to Haidria
      Albrighton to Boyd

      If that works cash wise

Purely for their fixtures in the missing game week

I'm keeping my fifth mid cheap. 4.7 for a player that might only get 1-2 games for me isn't worth the extra 0.3-0.4 I'd be spending

So I've been looking for a rotating partner for West Brom and Aston Villa mainly in the long run and seem to have settled on Massadio Haidara. At 4.1 and ownership at 0.7%, he looks very good value considering that he is nailed on now that Dummett is more or less out for the season.

A comparison of Newcastle's defensive performance shows that they have improved under Carver. Their goal attempts conceded has reduced from an average of 12,3 to 9.3. On Haidara's left side in particular, chances conceded has been reduced from an average of 2.9 to 2.2.

Since nailing down his spot against Southampton in gwk 25 created double the number of chances for Newcastle that the more expensive and higher owned Janmaat has. Haidara creating 4 chances to Janmaat's 2. Perhaps more significantly, Haidara has been averaging a minutes per chance rate of 94.5 to Janmaat's 189. In other areas they have similar statistics yet both have come up trumps with an assist each in recent weeks.

Looking ahead, I will probably be looking to ditch WBA defensive assets when their fixtures turn around gwk 34. Newcastle end their season with a nice run of fixtures around that time (SWA/lei/WBA/qpr/WHU). Newcastle's fixtures dove tail nicely around that time with cheap options to be found at Leicester/Burnley/West Ham and of course Sunderland.

Haidara is certainly a good option I feel at this stage.
