[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

This lunchtime, we’re updating you on those players who are just one mistimed tackle or display of dissent away from a two-match ban. At present, four players – Gareth Barry, Phil Bardsley, Lee Cattermole  and Neil Taylor – are on the precipice with nine yellow cards to their name and will be tiptoeing their way towards the April 12 cut-off date.

Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed the omission of Jack Colback from our suspension shortlist – much to manager John Carver’s ire, the Newcastle midfielder picked up the crucial tenth yellow for throwing the ball away in frustration after being pulled up for a foul during Saturday’s 5-0 hammering at City. The 25-year-old’s ill-discipline means he’ll sit out home ties against Aston Villa and Manchester United

Gareth Barry served a one-match suspension by missing Everton’s encounter with Leicester City and will now need to time his tackles perfectly if selected to face Arsenal’s elusive forwards next weekend. Meanwhile, Lee Cattermole returned for Sunderland following a six-match injury break, giving the no-nonsense midfielder the near-implausible task of refraining from any rash challenges for six Gameweeks.

With no new additions to the nine-yellow club, Blues duo Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas remain the most high-profile candidates just two slip-ups away from a spell on the sidelines. Southampton and Aston Villa have the most representation – with four each – among those players needing three yellows or fewer to topple off the tightrope.

In terms of players serving out suspensions, Joey Barton and Nemanja Matic both face three-match bans on the grounds of violent conduct, with the latter reacting to a dangerous tackle from Burnley’s Ashley Barnes. Upon further review, the FA decided not to take any further action against the Clarets’ forward, citing the fact that referee Martin Atkinson witnessed the incident as justification for sticking with the on-field decision. Nonetheless, Chelsea are reportedly set to appeal Matic’s ban.

Elsewhere, Ron Vlaar was given his marching orders after being shown a second yellow card for hauling down Stoke City’s Victor Moses in the penalty box last weekend, meaning he’ll sit out Aston Villa’s Gameweek 27 clash away to Newcastle United. Likewise, West Ham’s Morgan Amalfitano will play no part his team’s upcoming London derbies against Palace and Chelsea, having seen straight red in the Hammers’ 4-0 FA Cup defeat to West Brom.

Finally, Southampton welcome Ryan Bertrand back into the fold for their match-up with the Baggies next weekend – the former Chelsea left-back sat out the third and final match of his suspension during Sunday’s home loss to Liverpool.

3 5 2 is kind of my way. Zigic and 3 5 2 brought me that legendary 26th place overal

My father's team is set up 4-4-2 and is doing well. Premium defenders justify their price better than premium mids and strikers. Provided you have enough captain options I think it's quite possible to set a successful team up that way.

I think Naismith is the ideal 3rd forward for a 4-4-2. Cheap enough at 4.8 but very useful as a 1st sub.

Here's my old man's team if you are interested:

          Foster [Myhill]
          Clyne Ivanovic Terry Cresswell [Wollscheid]
          Hazard Ozil Di Maria [Moses/Puncheon]
          Aguero Kane [Naismith]

Where's he ranked? I toyed with going with 4 or even 5 at the back towards the end of last season on the basis I could have more 'premium' players with that tactic. Didn't go ahead with it in the end and did some rough sums afterwards to verify it wouldn't have been brilliant but I still feel there's mileage in it.

That sounds decent - I'm always attracted to different ways to play even though I always end up taking the dullest possible options for my own team. I'd love to see someone win FPL having rolled out a 5-4-1 all season 🙂

The 2022 World Cup should be boycotted. Human rights atrocities, deaths, slave labour, a clearly unfeasible World Cup hosted by a country with no football pedigree obviously, regardless of what they say, built on bribes. If the countries themselves won't do anything, the fans should make a stand.

The World Cup is meant to be a celebration. All of this in the name of a game.

I'd go further. I'd like to see UEFA disaffiliate from FIFA until such time as that organisation is torn down and replaced. Let them see how their World Cup cash cow works without any European teams in it and without any players contracted to European teams being permitted to play.

You would be better off going with Dawson if he keeps his place.

If you bench Haidara, then he may be worth it.

My current defence is: Ivan, Clyne, PVA, Bellerin, Wisdom.

Obviously I'm going to sell Wisdom. I already have Krul, so I wouldn't double up with Haidara. Also I have Lucas injured too. And 2FT of course.
    I can't get Dawson for 0.1.

Best defender for 4.3m(or less) only for this GW?
I was thinking about Naughton, Haidara, Wilson, Bruce/McShane or a Villa one. I only need a cheap nailed on defender for the blank.
I think Burnley will score at home, so I don't know is Naughton is worth the punt.

Actually I had him since GW3 and only kept him at the winter wildcard with GW27 in mind. So he trolls me with a perfectly timed flurry of yellow cards.

I have taken a -4 to replace him with Fletcher. I should get get 2 or 3 of that back, he's nailed on when I need him and it adds 0.4 to my budget. For a 5th mid he'll do fine.

very rare for Liverpool not to score at home when they are in form, regardless of who the opposition is

Is it worth using a FT to do Boyd ---> Moses/Mane???

So, I am having 9 players for this GW and 1 FT. I wanted to keep 2 for next but should I replace Wisdom for example and play with 10, even if next week I get a hit?

a single gameweek player this week and next equals a blank this week and a DGW next. I would say have the extra one this week as there are never any guarantees that players will play both games in a DGW

Who do you get rid of first Wisdom or PvA? or just get rid on both for a hit?

      Wisdom 1st,
I'm taking a hit on the 'Sticky' one if Poyet doesn't reveal all Kol.

    Panti
    Bertrand Koscielny Bruce Jones
    Cazorla ADM Puncheon Boyd
    Aguero Giroud
    Subs: Hamer Terry Hazard Kane
    2ft 2,6m.
Feel like I have to use 1FT this week, how?
Or just save and if no injury news before kickoff then just go with this.

Sometime you need to lose a top blank gameweek player just to field a team.

Of course if you made a lot of money on him I wouldn't be so quick.

That's the thing, I got him for 10.2 so stand to lose a bit but can get him back fairly easily for GW29 by upgrading ADM who isn't convincing.

If you were to keep him on your bench who would you need to choose between to get rid of?

    I have 11 starters, PVA 1st bench then Kane/Hazard with a blank.

Hoping I can save a FT.

I'm struggling to see how people have planned teams SO badly they have 'only 9 players' etc AFTER using 1 or 2 FT. The mind boggles.

    Can someone explain?!

I have 11 without a blank, but have Wisdom, PVA and Walcott. I have 2 FTs, but could still end up with only 10 playing. A lot of teams have probably been hit by injuries/players being dropped (or are just loaded up with DGWers).

Suspect it's mainly due to the rotation that has kicked in for a few popular players that seemed fairly nailed on beforehand (Wisdom, PvA, Azpilicueta) combined with a few slightly riskier punts that seemed worthwhile (Baird, Bellerin, Walcott, Zouma)

      Perfect storm I suppose.
