With Chelsea and Tottenham out of contention this week, Fantasy managers are eyeing up the premium price bracket for potential replacements in the centre of the park. Whilst Spurs’ double Gameweek 28 will surely persuade Christian Eriksen owners to hold, the Blues’ pair Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have been subject to significant transfers out this week after struggling to pick up the points in recent matches.

Fabregas, in particular, has afforded his 33% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners cause for concern after serving up just two assists since the turn of the year. Hazard’s single strike and two assists in six has been boosted by nine bonus points, but with the Belgian’s goal threat very much on the slide, there are a number of options available for those looking to freshen up their five-man midfields.

In our second members article of the week, we cast an eye over four pricey midfielders – David Silva, Mesut Ozil, Raheem Sterling and Angel Di Maria – whose recent form is very much on the rise. The quartet have all delivered returns in three of their last four league appearances and are starting to find consistency as the battle for our Fantasy attention heats up.

I think it's because you could genuinely miss if a player picks up a knock in training but if you don't realise they haven't got a game you need more than a flag to help you.

I'd be prepared to bet that Chelsea will not win a game by more than a 2 goal margin, for the rest of the season. I was at the Villa - Chelsea game a few weeks ago and hazard was amazing for the 7 or so minutes leading up to his goal, then it was a case of showboating and foot off the pedal. I can't see Hazard returning double figure hauls especially with the last 16 of the CL and other cup finals.

Could be worth a punt I reckon.

by the way my suggestion was Alexis > Yaya, not Haz

could indeed be worth a punt..you'd want Hazard back in 6-7 weeks though FOR SURE for their double

I have Sanchez too btw, so have looked at that. However, Arsenal's only way of playing is to attack .. plus they'll be out of the CL shortly so fixture pile up will not be a problem.

yeah but it's still a question of whether Sanchez will replicate his mid-season form when you could potentially have a better option in someone like Ozil for over 2m less and spread the funds around (or throw them directly at the front by getting someone like Sturridge)

I understand the spreading of funds but Sanchez is just so hungry to win. He's one of those rare players with great technical ability and work rate. It's never a surprise to see him score a brace but Ozil looks to be much more inconsistent with when he turns it on.

As it happens, funds aren't low so I'm unlikely to get rid of Hazard, but I think there's a strong case for doing so if chasing in a ML.

I'm just reminded of his early season form (where you could definitely say he was adjusting to the country, league and teammates/club) where he was decent but didn't shine because everyone else was fit around him...almost as if he didn't need to put the team on his back to get them across the finish line and so wasn't presenting that X factor that made him essential about 9 weeks ago

or I'm just talking nonsense haha

I think Clichy definitely plays Liverpool, you'd probably need to find an instance where Clichy was fit but Kolarov still played a big game against a top opponent

Wenger was in Italy on deadline day, the club bought Welbeck. Wenger said afterwards in a press conference that he would have signed him on loan and not bought him.

    What to do this week?

    Krul,
    PvA, Clyne, Wisdom, Wollscheid
    Sanchez, Boyd, Walcott, Punchy
    Defoe, Kun

    Subs: Pants, Haz, Kane, Azpi

I have 2 FT and 3.9M in the bank.

Planning on using 3 transfers next week so aiming to stick to one transfer.... Any tips?

Wisdom and PVA won't play though, so you need to upgrade one of them (probably Wisdom as PVA should play home games against Villa, Leicester etc) I'm doing Punch > Ericksen next week

Because we were pesh against Bradford and couldn't afford to lose against WBA so Poyet tightened things up. Especially with 2 away games coming up. But after that, we need to break the teams below us down to win games and PVA is best option for that.

Am I crazy to think that Alexis' current FPL form (wholly different from real life form) is very similar to that in early season? Yes you can easily attribute some of it to adjustment to the country, league and teammates/club, but you could also say at that point in time everyone around him was fit still (barring Walcott) and that while he was certainly decent, he didn't shine because it was almost as if he didn't need to put the team on his back to get them across the finish line.

Possibly pure coincidence that the quiet periods line up with the rest of the squad's fitness but aside from Stoke, he's been FPL-quiet for nearly 2 months now..

I wouldn't blame tonight on Wenger. 9 or 10 of their players looked absolutely disinterested tonight. Never chased a lost cause, tried to win a second ball etc. Pure arrogance from the likes of Ozil imo. You don't underestimate anyone in Europe, and that's what their players did.

I just think that Wenger has had enough time to forge his Champion's League winning team. Considering the attitudes of the players were this poor you can tell they are not intimidated by him.

I think Arsenal have great potential with a new manager. They aren't winning much with Wenger.

Arsenal Fan Blog site quote on Giroud tonight

"literally everything he did tonight, he did wrong. Missed chances, fluffed passes, poor layoffs, dummies to nobody"

      Ratings of 1.5/10 and 2/10

      http://news.arseblog.com/2015/02/arsenal-1-3-monaco-player-ratings/

Notice when Theo came on, it wasnt Welbeck who came off, it was Le Donkey.

Did Theo play up front or did Welbeck take up that role?

Maybe a wee chance Le Donkey gets dropped with Welbeck up front and Theo out wide this weekend? Or better still, the other way around. 😀

He did nearly score on that rebound off of Alexis' shot which was blocked by Walcott who was splayed out on the ground in front of him. Just as good a chance as any of the four or so that Giroud had and duffed up.

Arsenal fans have a unique inability to ever say, "hey, maybe we just sucked tonight." Every loss always has to be proof of some structural fault with the club. I'm generalizing but it seems way more dramatic with Gooners than most others

I just think that United fans have been spoilt by Fergie and now have unrealistic expectations

The FA Cup semi Finals are booked in for April 18 and April 19.

At the moment the favourites to go through are Villa (WBA), Liverpool and United (Arsenal).

Does that mean GW33 will be hugely effected?

GW33 games are currently booked for April 18, 19 and 20

Interestingly April 20 is Villa v QPR so could still go ahead if Villa qualify and play their semi on April 18.

The other fixtures in that round that could be effected are:

      Hull v Liverpool
      Chelsea v Man United
      (Arsenal v Sunderland)
      (Crystal Palace v West Brom).

If Villa go through I doubt very much they will want to play what is quite likely to be a relegation 6 pointer against QPR two days later.

Really, in essence are we arrogant as premier league fans? We say we're the best league but the four teams that represent the league generally disappoint.

PSG drew Chelsea, and Monaco beat a good Arsenal side despite Ligue 1 having the reputation of being poor.

The premier league may be the most entertaining but I think it lacks the tactical side of football which is needed when playing in Europe.

Or it could perhaps be that the premier league being hard takes more of a toll on premier league sides compared to other leagues.

There is certainly quality in the Arsenal side and they can have a bad game but I'm still shocked.

Arsene has targeted the wrong players over the past half-decade nearly. He's looking like Fergie at the end, buying wingers and defenders when he really needed a class defensive midfielder.

          top to bottom.

Barca and Madrid or PSG and Monaco being quite good to top notch is not an advertisement for the league..in fact it's an indictment if they're good and the rest of the league is not..

Watching the Serie A any many other leagues is like watching paint dry to me but I have to admit, the teams that dominate in those leagues are very good tactically. In the premier league it's less about the tactics and more about playing an open game. I think the lack of tactics is what costs premier league teams. Di Matteo for example took an average Chelsea side and won the UCL with it by using good tactics (even if it was parking the bus).

An average Chelsea side? Before 2012 Chelsea had the record for the most CL semi-finals of any team without winning it and all achieved by that group of players. They just won it a couple of years later than anyone expected.

I can understand that as a Liverpool fan you may feel your team isn't very good. After all it is only ranked 40th in Europe. But then the norm for Liverpool is somewhere around 5th-7th in the PL. This season's CL qualification was an anomaly caused by Suarez and you duly embarrassed yourselves as expected without him.

Chelsea on the other hand won the CL in 2012, the EL in 2013 and were CL semi-finalists in 2014. We are ranked 4th in Europe, just behind Barcelona. It's just a shame that no other PL team other than Ferguson's United have had the mental strength required to really compete in Europe on a regular basis.

Maybe even Liverpool could do it if they gave up the sentimental mythologising about the 70s and 80s as if that is relevant in 2015 and concentrated on what they are now. Currently they are at the level of the Europa League. If they want to become a serious CL team they have a lot of work to do.

england has never been the best. Holland, italy, spain, germany have led the way in modern european football. Now the prem is the glamour league, the best for entertainment for sure. Strange that importing the worlds best players and coaches doesn't equal success

Haven't done one of these in weeks as I know how repetitive and mundane they are but I think I need some guidance from you geniuses as I've gotten myself into a bit of a pickle.....

      Team for this weekend

      Adrian
      PVA Naughton Fonte Lescott
      Alexis Puncheon Silva Fellaini
      Berahino Aguero

      Hamer Kane Hazard Azpi

      Stuff I hate:

      1. PVA might not start again
      2. Fellaini might not start again
      3. Puncheon :/
      4. Adrian faces chelse and arsenal after this weekend

0FT but I do have £3.1m to spend

      Please advise 🙂

Keep Fella for this GW at least, then get rid.
Same goes for Punch, albeit he's not an ideal player to have, he still has a slim chance of scoring vs the Hammers.

PvA is what's keeping your from fielding an XI though, I'd just wait for pressers to see if Poyet confirms the speculation around PvA

Agree w all of this. The reason why I'd just keep PvA instead of a -2 or -3 is that you will conceivably start Azpil Lescott and Fonte weekly and with Naughton as cover you probably will not need that 5th defender again for quite some time in which case you can sort it out for free.
