The weekend’s nine fixtures have heralded in a number of new injuries, with yet another hamstring setback for Chelsea’s main striker proving the headline-grabber.

Arsenal
Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey were both forced off during the Gunners’ win over Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime. After the match, Arsene Wenger revealed he was optimistic on the pair’s fitness:

”Koscielny has a little tightness in his thigh..He had a muscular problem, but a small one..and Ramsey’s is an ankle problem, but it’s not bad.”

Wojciech Szczesny missed out yesterday due to a rib problem.

Aston Villa
Tim Sherwood is pessimistic over the prospects of Ashley Westwood and Scott Sinclair making Villa’s home clash with QPR on Tuesday after the duo missed yesterday’s trip to United with hamstring injuries. Sherwood also rolled out an update on Alan Hutton’s fitness after the defender was forced off at Old Trafford:

”They’re both injured. I wouldn’t have thought they’ll be back for Tuesday. It’s disappointing. The injuries are crippling. But we’ve just got to get on with it. We lost Alan to injury today. As quick as we are getting them back, we are losing them. Alan wanted to stay on the pitch desperately. He was desperate to stay on and do well for the club but unfortunately he couldn’t. His ankle was too sore. It’s going to be a struggle for him. I’ve never known injuries like it. It’s unbelievable.”

The Villains’ boss is a little more optimistic on Aly Cissokho and Kieran Richardson’s prospects of being available to face the R’s:

“I hope so but I’m not holding my breath.”

Chelsea
Diego Costa lasted just 11 minutes as a second-half substitute before his hamstring issues forced him off against Stoke. Discussing the likely period of absence, Jose Mourinho reckons the Spain international is set to miss the Gameweek 33 showdown with United:

“It’s too early. He has to go home, he has to wait 48 hours. He has to do all the scans again. He will be out for sure a couple of weeks, but we have seven weeks until the end of the season. Seven weeks and eight matches. For sure, in half of it he has to be with us.”

Mourinho also conceded that the decision to throw Costa on at the break with the match all-square was a risky tactic but refused to blame the club’s medical department as a result of his star forward’s setback:

“I don’t say a gamble because we did every test, we did every scan. The player trained two days 100 per cent with the team, the medical department was convinced that he was ready. The player was convinced he was ready, not for 90 minutes, but he was ready to play and to help the team. Sometimes as a manager I have to risk things. Medical departments have to do the same, if they want to be top medical departments like our department is. The safe medical department cannot work with me. People with fear, afraid to risk, cannot work with me. My medical department is fantastic, they do fantastically well for us. Today between them and the player and myself, things didn’t happen the best way, but I’m happy with that, because it’s football.”

Everton
Darron Gibson is set for a period on the sidelines after sustaining a foot injury in training on Friday morning, Roberto Martinez has confirmed:

“We don’t know yet how long Darron will be out because, obviously, the specialist needs to give us an answer as to how we are going to treat the injury. Yesterday, in a very innocuous action just in the box, he rolled his ankle and didn’t realise anything was wrong. Then, this morning, it was swollen and when we checked it he has a fracture in his metatarsal which is really devastating and our win today is for him. It’s such a tough period, we need to support him and make sure we get him back as quick as we can.”

Hull
Curtis Davis was unavailable for the Tigers’ trip to Swansea due to a thigh problem. Andrew Robertson missed out through injury, whilst Gaston Ramirez lasted less than 30 minutes before being forced off due to injury, according to match reports. The on-loan Uruguayan is unavailable for next weekend regardless as he cannot play against parent club Southampton.

Liverpool
Mario Balotelli missed the trip to Arsenal after sustaining a knee knock in training, Brendan Rodgers has revealed:

”He trained yesterday afternoon with the team and took a slight knock to his knee. He deemed it that he was not able to travel with the team. He felt it was too sore to travel. The medical staff have looked at it. It was something that he himself didn’t feel comfortable with to travel.”

QPR
Eduardo Vargas was forced off through injury just 30 minutes into yesterday’s win at West Brom. Club medics are waiting for swelling to subside before sending the player for scans.

Sunderland
Jack Rodwell missed today’s derby win over Newcastle due to a hamstring injury.

Swansea
Kyle Naughton was forced off with an ankle problem during the Swans’ weekend win over Hull. Naughton was involved in a challenge with David Meyler which resulted in the latter’s dismissal but after the match, Garry Monk refused to blame the Tigers midfielder:

“He’s gone to hospital for an x-ray. His ankle swelled up after coming off. I think it was a 50-50 ball. It was a bad challenge, but I don’t think there was any malice from the player.”

Tottenham
Jan Vertonghen was unavailable for today’s trip to Burnley due to illness, the club has confirmed. Kyle Walker lasted just two minutes of the second-half before limping off with an ankle problem sustained prior to the break. The right-back left the stadium in crutches but Mauricio Pochettino remains optimistic on his prospects:

”We expect and we hope that it’s not a big issue.”

    Thought's here lads?

    Panti
    Ivan, Terry, Bertrand
    Siggy, Mane, Hazard, Silva
    Kun, Kane, Austin

    2FT, 5.4 ITB

    A) Austin -> Murray/Sakho/Berahino/Giroud and Krul -> K Davis
    B) Austin -> Remy, Terry -> Sakho (and ship Bellerin in GW33 which will allow me to field 3 defenders)

Thanks. Sakho may have an upcoming blank but is a BAP hog and Liverpool's fixtures are amazing.

        Who else would you suggest?

Yeah, just feel Livp are starting to lose confidence and may be a but leaky as they forced to try and win games.

It's hard to say without knowing your bench, you have a lot in the bank so you could go Coleman as a nice differential

Sorry mate. Bench is Krul, Boyd, PvA and Bellerin.

Coleman could be a decent differential, average fixtures though.

Chelsea double coming up so keep Terry
      Austin to Remy or Gomis

I can't do Austin to Remy on it's own, already maxed out on Chelsea. So if I want Remy I have to get rid of one of Haz, Ivan or Terry.

I've already got Siggy so don't really want a double up with Gomis.

we have exactly the same bench 😆

Hold your fire for now. A blank/injury for Kun and you might be tempted to remove him instead.

      Nothing urgent in the attack?

Would probably spread the risk by playing like this (thus not wasting a transfer):

      Panti
      Terry - Clyne - Lescott

All favourable fixtures. You could also be better of using your transfer on Hutton/Naughton given they're both injury doubts.

I have Austin but need funds to upgrade to Remy if I go that way

        Haz Sanchez Boyd Eriksen Silva
        Aguero Kane Austin

Another option is to sell Eriksen to Sigg

What's these news about Southampton making a loan move for Cech?

Kavis was supposed to be my transfer in this week, so I don't approve this.

Anyone reckon the title race could actually be wrapped up as early as the Arsenal-Chelsea game in GW34?

City won't get a win against United imo, so that leaves Arsenal to fight it out for the title.

What luck are you talking about here?

If winning 1-0 and 2-1 is luck for you, I'm delighted to inform you that isn't luck. You can't expect a 4-0 or 5-1 in every game of the season you know. Spurs have been lucky throughout the season in that case.

Besides every team has its fair share of luck over the course of a season. So the "rode their luck a fair bit this season" isn't quite applicable.

If an unbiased person can tell me one team that has been consistent enough throughout the season and that deserves the title more, I'll be happy to discuss.

We didn't look any worse than Chelsea most weeks. Again, we had an absolute circus of injuries. And while it may not have been nice to watch we had quality in the team to tick us along. The difference is that we paid for a few turgid performances whereas Chelsea didn't. The Hull match earlier in the season sticks out as one of the worst winning performances I've ever seen in the PL. And one of the most questionable refereeing performances. Steve Bruce doesn't go argo in the media over nothing.

I have stated they have been clearly the best team in the comp this season. What i'm eluding to is that they haven't really had bad luck..everything seems to have gone their way for them so far. Utd and Arsenal were ravaged with injuries early in the season with several big names all out long term. Don't get me wrong, Chelsea have by far been the most consistent solid side so far but they have not been outstanding you must admit.

Agree somewhat. Ignoring Muppet's pointless arguments, a sudden burst of form doesn't win you the title.

Consistent delivery of results throughout is crucial even when you're not in form (and that's what Mourinho is about. SAF used to specialize in them)

Even when Chelsea are supposedly in poor form at the moment, we've lost 0 games over the last 10 PL fixtures while Arsenal and United (who are in amazing form) have lost one each.

Not arguing that at all. Chelsea hands down the most consistent side so far this season and deservedly top of league. I do just wander if Arsenal had guys like Kosc, Ozil, Giroud, Debuchy fit all season how close it would be.

Who would you rather have for the next two? I plan on using my WC in GW 34.

    A) Gomis (EVE, lei)
    B) Murray (sun, WBA)
    C) Berahino (LEI, cry)
    D) Remy (qpr, MUN)

I already have 3 Chelsea players so bringing in Remy will mean getting rid of Terry/Ivan. Leaning towards A at this stage.

Only in Van Gaal's long head, they've been very fortunate that fellow average sides in Spurs and Liverpool have fallen apart when it counted.

Might be tempted to do it in DGW34. Don't think they will adjust LIv fixture that early.

I just dont think Arsenal/Liverpool fixures all that good gw34

So il be waiting gw35 then 3 from each

Hope so Nabil although no rivals got wildcard so hoping gives me good advantage for run in.

depends on the players. Giroud can easily score against CHE, but I probably won't hold onto Bellerin until then.

Yep, the idea is to load up ARS & LIV players until the end, depending on their form. I'm willing to risk it.

Never watched the game , but by all accounts (on here) WBR were dominant, with QPR scoring with every (limited) opportunity. One of those games ?
I will keep the faith in Myhill . Damn, why have we brought him in otherwise , if not for the next 2

Gomis is a decent option. Think I'd be tempted to go Remy if I had cash tho. Costa will be out for at least a couple of games.

Careful with Davis. I'd just wait to make sure that the loan move for Cech is just paper talk

Normally I would consider Berahino with his fixtures but given he is in a low scoring team and now mostly running the channels (with Ideye occupying the central position) I tend to think he's not a great option.

    Penalties help, but aren't enough.

    Gomis for me I think

Same go for Giroud - bur and ki - lei vs Remy qpr/ MUN ?

Need to fund the move up to Giroud and its either Mane to Ki or Eriksen to Giroud. Lost faith in Mane so that's the most likely.

I think you may be able to get better value for money than Sturridge - not convinced by him at all, especially not at that price. Perhaps he might be useful for a DGW, but it's far from sure when (or even if) that will be, and I wouldn't want to be holding him all the way to GW37 just for the double.

      1. Kurtinho
        • 11 Years

Good point. Was planning on Costa, but now he's out I have limited options. Sturridge is a nice differential, not too worried about value right now with the cash that I have. But I see your point, it's high risk.
