Myself, Granville and Jonty welcomed Fantasy Premier League royalty for this week’s episode, as reigning champion, Tom Fenley, made his belated ScoutCast debut.

Tom joined us to talk us through his difficult post-championship season, whilst lending his informed view the situation facing the current Fantasy Football Scout league leader, and FPL number one, Simon March, aka “Dufflinks”.

Of course, we were also glad to have Tom’s expertise on board to help us grapple with the latest round of topics fed to us by the community. Amongst the many issues tackled, we attempt to explain the withering form of Sergio Aguero, discussing the merits or otherwise of an Argentine exit strategy.

This episode was recorded on Tuesday evening with a live Hangout broadcast. If you missed that and you really want to catch up on the latest beard developments (Tom abstains from this), you can view the Hangout in full via the movie below.

If you prefer to have your ScoutCast slip down that little bit easier, you’ll be wanting the rather more slick and refined audio version via this link or the first player below.

Be sure to subscribe to our Youtube channel if you want to be kept informed of future live ScoutCasts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    2FT 0.1 ITB

    Panti Heaton
    Terry Kosc* Hutton* Wolly Berty
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Mane Boyd
    Aguero Kane Austin

Strategy - use 2FT this GW to bring in a 3rd Chelsea player & a Leic player as they have a game in 33 and a DGW 34.

    A) Austin & Kosc --> Vardy & Ivanovic
    B) Austin & Kosc --> Remy & Schlupp
    C) Use 1 FT....suggestions? (and wait for news on Costa or see if Cesc picks up yellow)

How many DGW do we need?

    I am currently look at Terry + Hazard + Costa/Remy then Henderson + Coutinho/Sterling (for a -4)

Worth another -4 for Mignolet or Skrtel?

Hits take some of the value out of DGWers. If you need a hit to finance say 2DGWers then in such circumstances its useful. I wouldn't take a hit for a defender if its a one off however.

Question for those using their WC in GW34.....

How many punts are you going to take in GW33? As in, will it be worth taking a hit and have a bit of fun while safe in the knowledge that they'll be out of your team the next week anyway?

    1. Ruth_NZ
      • 11 Years
      11 years, 2 days ago

None. I don't see any GW33 players worth taking a punt on that I can't get without a hit.

I will probably bring Yaya in for one week on a free though.

I think GW34 is where you start punting to the rest of the season... The WC allows you to do that.

He might but I certainly wouldn't expect him to start both games of the DGW. I'd say that would be very unlikely

seems like even more reason to go for Rooney. Think he is a better all round pick and I have the money in the bank and will likely drop after 2 weeks so doesn't make much difference as I am not going to make any other moves until the DGW

The best option to replace Sinclair & Austin:
    A. Siggurdson & Murray

It's not silly, but i think there are better uses for the 2 FTS. I'm running with the safety of double Chelsea defence with Terry and Ivanovic.

@Ryan ...Interested to see you post re Austin and Remy. Is this week not one of the few weeks when 3-5-2 is a better option than a hasty transfer ?....Anybody wanting to max out on decent forwards for the DGW should be looking at Costa/Remy and Studge....but neither are really the right option this week.

I tend to agree. There is definitely a case for Austin owners to keep and go with 352. I suppose then it depends on who your 5 midfield starters are for GW32 & 33? No doubt 5 midfielders can be handy for the DGW

I guess the strategy will be to get Chelsea and Leicester players for gw33 and then Liverpool and Hull for 34. I might be a -4 each gw and have 9 DGW players.

Yep I'm saving. Eriksen and Aguero my only off the boil players but neither an immediately pressing issue. Better to have the 2FT for the blank, as you say.

Do we not think that Austin could slam a goal past Chelsea this weekend?

    1) They're at home
    2) QPR's form has been great, at least they're whacking in goals
    3) Austin's form is incredible - he's scored 17, equal with Aguero, and only 2 behind Costa and Kane
    4) Guaranteed 90 minutes
    5) QPR have been Chelsea's bogie side in the past
    6) Chelsea have kept one clean sheet in 5 - conceding against Burnley, Hull, Southampton and Stoke who are hardly prolific scoring teams

I understand the reticence in keeping him with a blank to follow, I still feel he could get some points against Mou's fragile bus.

Agree. I know they are last gw's points but I can't bear to ship players who got 23 and 21 points for me. I will keep both and then transfer for gw33.

If you want to do well at FPL with OR you have to be patient. The definition of that IMO is that good players (picks) deliver pts in unlikely games....and that happens a lot. How often do folk post "Doh....i shipped him out this week because of the fixtures"...It happens over and over again.

I know it's a bit early but as I'll be unable to have more than 3Chelsea+1Liverpool otherwise, I will WC for GW34.

Interestingly enough, I will still only go for 6-7 DGWplayers as transfers will come handy and I wont take -4 to get out Schmeichelt, MC Gregor or even N'Doye or Vardy.

    Thinking
    Davis Gilks
Ivan Moreno/Sakho (if fit) McShane Alderweireld PVA/Duff
    Hazard Silva Fabregas Coutinho Gutierrez
    Kane Sturridge Giroud

With just enough itb to go Cout+Fab to Ramsey+Sánchez in the next two weeks leaving me with one injury or form related transfer before GW37.

Would anyone suggest to go for N'Doye over Kane and switch to smn else cheap for the run in..fe Defoe and his double but potentially face a -4 only to get smn else for GW38 as he has mci

    1. Dr. Agabuse
      • 13 Years
      11 years, 2 days ago

or Bony (VILLA) over Giroud for gw34?
But that forces me in yet another transfer. I'd want a guaranteed 3more points than Giroud gets in that scenerio for Bony as his transfer out will likely prevent or delay another useful one, or might even cost -4

I do think Aguero will find form, his stats have been good, just that his Goal Conversion has gone down, which I think soon will return to his average. He has amazing fixtures too. If you're fine without him then I can't fault that team at all. Maybe get Bellerin instead of PvA/Duff if possible?

      1. Dr. Agabuse
        • 13 Years

Bellerin has Debuchy to deal with from now. Aguero will come good for sure but Bony might take a share and i cant seem to find a good team with him. Maybe get Ozil instead of Sánchez and Sturridge to Aguero

    3. Ruth_NZ

I am taking N'Doye over Kane. I'll bench him in 35 (3-5-2) and he has a juicy fixture in 36. Then he becomes Defoe in 37 for the DGW. In 38 I'll either switch Defoe out or bench him and play 3-5-2 again.

      Works very well for me.

It's fine but if you can afford it I think the more the merrier and have 3 from each. Both have decent options so it's not like Leicester or Hull where if you stock up you then have to scratch your head wondering how to immediately get rid of them.

It would mean 2 Leicester, 2 Liverpool, and 3 Chelsea for the DGW.

Also I'd have 3 Arsenal already for their DGW37 so I can spend my transfers between the DGW's on maxing out on Sunderland players and having a total of 6DGWers for GW37

      Hey Champ.

      Benching Siggy this week?

That's an amazing team you'll have for the DGW. One hit and you get 7!

My plan is to get Zaha for Sinclair so I can cover GW33, and get Pool defense and mid to add to Sturridge, Hazard and Zouma making it 5 without a hit.

Also, what you reckon? Zaha or Puncheon? Zaha more of a goal threat, Puncheon more like the architect.

hey ak. yeah sig and pva good chance of points on the bench but prefer the alternatives this gw.
cheers mate I'm very happy with it. good for 33 too. got lucky.
I haven't watched enough palace lately to comment other than to say puncheon in the past has had a better final ball and shot than zaha. zaha may have improved on that. ask walsh if you see him I think he watches them weekly.

    My current team is:
    Myhill
    Terry Naughton Wolly Fonte Dawson
    Hazard Eriksen Silva Mane Sanchez
    Kane Aguero Berahino

I have 0.2 ITB and 2 free transfers

Thinking over the next 2 whether to do
    i) Berahino --- Murray
    ii) Mane ----- Siggy
iii) Naughton ---- Defender (Max 4.5 - no idea who yet)

Would be interested to hear what everyone thought.

    Also...........

    - I'm planning on using my WC in GW34 in order to make the most of the Chelsea and L'pool DGWs - however, correct me if i'm wrong, if you wanted to take L'pool players out after the DGW, you will have to do so with a hit?

I hate DGW's...in fact I have a great dislike of OR as well. Once again this week in my H2H I really don't need to do anything regarding the DGW to win my match and gain 3pts.

I really wish we had a bigger fan base for that sort of game on here...It's a lot more tactical....

If you played with 2 teams - fine I'd be in, but I like the challenge, not against anyone in particular just the challenge of punting here & there to finish higher than last year.
It's not the be all & end all as I do look at the H2H side of things... a bit.
Might be a spot in the league next year, I'll look you up if you're interested and the spots free. (see Wigan H2H)

That's the problem GNU. The only way to play H2H properly is to ignore the OR rank game...and nobody wants to do that. Yes you're right...for most people they would need two teams to play it well....

It depends on how you approach the game. H2H leagues pit you against some morons who don't know what they're doing. OR is a good indicator of your total success as a manager and puts you up against the rest of the folk on here. If it's for cash, focus on the H2H ... although i personally believe you do one well and the other manages itself.

No it doesn't...I've never lost a H2H league...ever....This year I got put in two leagues in the LAWR by accident....One I play every week and the other I've had to ignore. I'm top of the one I've played and yet I have one of the lowest overall scores, and against some very good FPL players. All you need to know is who your next opponent has in his team and what his likely transfers may be...and act accordingly. It doesn't matter who the best long term picks are. ( (check my link)...

I dislike them, they force us all into similar decisions, and in my opinion ruin the wildcard.

Mostly because they force us all to squeeze similar players into our teams, for example basically everybody had Kane (c) and Eriksen in the Spurs DGW, and to be honest it wasn't really a decision, and had very little to do with how you rate these players. They often make certain moves almost mandatory for serious managers.

Secondly they ruin wildcard timing, rather than just using it at a time when your team is a bit broken, or you'd like to use a lot of transfers, they give an alternative, that is to save your wildcard for a DGW. This adds an extra random element, whereby a lot of people benefit or lose out, just because of how the fixtures end up being shuffled at the end of the season.

      1. C-Dawgg
        • 11 Years
        11 years, 2 days ago

I really don't agree with this, some people got Kane and Eriksen, some got Austin and Phillips, Some got Danny Rose, some got Benteke. They all had very different results.

You don't have to use your wildcard on a DGW and the xmas wildcard is far worse for making everyone pick the same team.

        1. Carlos Kickaball
          • 11 Years
          11 years, 2 days ago

Exactly, you don't have to use your wildcard on a DGW, but when you make the decision whether to save it for one, you have no idea on when and how good the DGWs will be so you are essentially just gambling on how the fixtures will be moved.

In terms of the same players, yes some people get slightly different players, but in reality it does push everyone towards similar moves in the same week just to get double game week players, rather than managing your team on the more basis of how you rate the players. You know moves can be more similar, without them all being the same. 😉

Im ambivalent regarding double gameweeks for the most part. As for H2H, i like the idea but im not willing to sacrifice OR for it, i think thats why its quite easy to do well in it for the most part, as most others are focused on OR, mini leagues etc.

That's true, but I tend to think the game should be more about picking the best players, rather than being able to arrange transfers to shoehorn in more doublers.

They are and always will be awesome, imo, as they give us the rewards in the form of points not only for the hours we might spend obsessing over transfers but also for the risks we are compelled to take. Flopping a flush with suited connectors, hitting a gut shot straight draw on the river...sometimes gambles do pay off, and they can make your night at the poker tables or your season in FPL.

Those 2 FTs will come in very handy prior to the DGW, and a lot can happen in the next GW to shape out thinking. If Henderson were to put 2 past Newcastle he'd be pick of the week next week, whereas I can imagine most people will be lining up Sterling or Coutinho.

So much uncertainty with A right now, it is the go-to here on paper here, yet I still feel it's a forced move this week. If you could go Murray/Gomis, I'd go for that, though it doesn't look like your team has that luxury right now

Ahh that's sad, RIP. I don't follow cricket at all but recognize his face and his voice especially.
A bit like other sports I don't follow, but I'd always know who Peter Aliss is or Ted Lowe or Bill McLaren etc.

        that voice 😀
says something about how good his commentary was when he'll be remembered at least as much for that as he will for being one of the most successful australian captains

Oh no how sad. I loved the way he'd only commentate on free to view TV. What a legend. RIP Richie.

schlupp for potential - although people here saying he may lose his place. Don't know if that's true but then he is a risk

Morgan and Huth the other 2 good ones, although morgan is cheaper and nailed

33 out of 84 still have their WC in Last Man Standing.
Guessing a high % of those should get through GW34.
