Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders, arrives a little later than usual this Friday afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With 44% of the votes cast, Harry Kane is the runaway leader this week as Spurs prepare to entertain Villa at the Lane. The youngster has produced eight goals and two assists in his six home appearances in 2015, with three sets of double-figures (18, 12, 17) included over that run. Bearing in mind that Villa have a single clean sheet in 12 league outings, Kane owners will be expecting a return to form after he blanked in two of the last three Gameweeks.

Eden Hazard is next in line as Chelsea make their way to London neighbours QPR. The Belgian has scored in five of his last six away appearances and squares up to a defence that’s conceded at least twice in all but one of the last seven matches. With that in mind, it’s perhaps surprising that Hazard is currently backed by just 17% of the voters.

Arsenal pair Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez have been selected by 8% and 5% respectively for the trip to Burnley. The Clarets defence have kept out City and Spurs in their last two home matches and have certainly tightened up, though face a tough task to keep Giroud at bay – the Frenchman has scored in eight of his last nine league starts. Sanchez, meanwhile, has already served up a 16-point haul against the Clarets this season and rolls up to Turf Moor on the back of a 13-point return against Liverpool last weekend as the Gunners strengthen their claim for a top two finish.

Four goals in his last six outings earns Bafetimbi Gomis 4% backing in this week’s Poll. The Swansea forward has belatedly found his form but faces a resurgent Everton side at the Liberty, with the Toffees conceding just once in their previous three fixtures.

Sergio Aguero and Loic Remy have been selected by just 3% ahead of trips to United and QPR respectively. Given that United have only conceded more than one goal on just two occasions from Gameweek 6 onwards, Aguero faces a tough task to arrest a run of form which has seen him return a single assist in the last five Gameweeks. Remy’s back-to-back winners for Chelsea should earn him a start in Diego Costa’s absence as the league leaders travel to a QPR side that has lost each of their last five at Loftus Road and boasts the worst defensive record in the top-flight.

Further down, the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Glenn Murray could well emerge as real differentials for those willing to gamble. Sturridge has collected just 2% of votes ahead of Monday’s home encounter with a Newcastle side that has managed two clean sheets in their last 19 league encounters. Murray’s five goals and two assists in the last five suggests he’s one to watch as Palace seek a fifth win in six away to struggling Sunderland.

    I have 2 FTs so I need to use one this week, here's my team before I make a transfer.

    Pantilimon
    Bertrand, Ivanovic, Bellerín, Lescott
    Hazard (v), Eriksen, Cazorla, Sterling
    Austin, Kane (c)
    (Lloris, Benteke, Puncheon, Naughton)

    Which transfer should I do and who should I bench?

    A. Naughton -> Coleman
    B. Benteke -> Gomis
    C. Benteke -> Murray

    (I'm using my WC in GW 34 btw)

    This has to be week when both captain poll leaders blank and someone like Remy or Sanchez scores a brace.

      As somone whose looked at the poll closely for ages, well before I was a member or even a free account holder, the player who tops the poll rarely scores the biggest haul out of the 'realistic' contenders.

      Doesn't meant it won't happen this week, just saying.

      The captain poll is skewed. Most people vote for who they will captain and not for players they don't have in their team.

      If you have a player most don't own, don't expect them to be high on the poll. Remy is as good a shout as anyone this week.

    Engaging brain this time (see above):

    Midfield conundrum: Wildcard still to play before GW34

    Silva Puncheon Siggy Haz Eriksen

    I need to downgrade one of them this week for defensive reasons, which one, and who to bring in (who costs the player - 1.7) for the next 2 gameweeks?

      I can't completely grasp your question, and it's harder without understanding the bigger context but Eriksen would probably be my answer.. he is the most expendable.. least likely to produce.. I think.

        More full view is

        Reveillere Terry Wolly Bellerin naughton

        Silva Punch Siggy Haz Eriksen

        Kane Ags Giroud

        0.1 in bank. Difficulty is I fancy Debuchy to play instead of Bellerin, so I need to swap Belllerin or Reveillere out. Want to upgrade to S'ton, would require a downgrade. thinking Aguero, Eriksen or Siggy but can't decide

      gomis doesn't have proven consistent form and even if he had more consistent form, he is still in a team that lacks a lot of attacking appeal and doesn't seem to create that many chances..Siggy coming back on form might help that but I'm not convinced. I'm not convinced on Remy either but I would still go Remy over Gomis.

                Rooney has let me down before. Gut says Remy now, I think.. and that's the way the tide is turning, too. At least if he lets us down I won't have lost out much. Rooney is riskier for me, I think.

    I've been playing 3/5/2 since the Winter WC. And am thinking this maybe the GW to revert back to 3/4/3 and bring Remy in.

    But who should be the fifth mid? They would need to play next GW, but who ever it will be will most likely go to the bench this GW.

    Heres the team:

    Panti (Krul)
    Bertrand Clyne Kos (PvA, Dawson)
    Hazard Sanchez Silva Eriksen Mata
    Kun Kane (Cisse)

    2FT, 0.7ITB

    A: Cisse and Mata to Remy and Puncheon
    A: Cisse and Mata to Remy and Leicester mid?

    Any thoughts much appreciated

    Who should move aside for the incoming 5th mid role? A: Eriksen B: Mata

      that he owed him games, praised him, and then the idea that costa has 4 games left makes it more likely (hopefully) that those games would be later in the season (considering it is a hamstring injury)..
