The Community articles and hot topics echoed with the sound of fluttering wildcards and Fantasy managers’ top songs to sum up their season. For those looking without a wildcard, there was some guidance on how to avert a disastrous plummet down the overall rankings, whilst there was plenty of advice on offer in our Members tables for those looking to take advantage of this week’s double Gameweek. Mini-league wrangles also took centre stage, with just five Gameweeks left time is running out for those looking to wrestle top spot away from the current league leaders.

The Community Articles

The case for following advice from FFScout’s many community experts and the power of statistics was forcefully made by Gussy, who explained how he is on the edge of the top 1,000 in his debut Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season without ever seeing a match.

Cesc Fabregas was the focus of Serjeant’s statistical analysis going into the double Gameweek. As Serjeant reveals, Cesc’s new suitors may be a little too hasty, given his second half of the season displays so far.

Elsewhere our latest Rough with the Smooth we looked back on Gameweek 33’s tales of joy and woe from the community and find out who was the week’s smoothest operator.

After a difficult Gameweek 33, The Puntmaster will be hoping to bounce back in with his  Gameweek 34 trio of punts.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With Chelsea, Liverpool, Leicester and Hull all playing twice this expectation is high among the community of bumper returns in Gameweek 34. Innsie was among our resident experts on hand to give some top tips for surviving double Gameweek fever.

Having a wildcard in play for Gameweek 34 is set to offer a major boost, if key assets from double fixture sides do well. For those without, though, taking hits seems inevitable, according to Pepin, one of many to take part in Captan Ali Cheesoid’s discussion on how to get one over on wildcarders this week.

For Enzo the Baker, those without a wildcard should focus more on damage limitation in his guide to surviving the double Gameweek. He followed that up with a specific look at the pros and cons for the wildcardless of removing Manchester City man David Silva to take advantage of double Gameweek stars.

One option that many with a wildcard haven’t considered is holding a little longer to take advantage of Arsenal’s double Gameweek 37. Here Bod puts forward five key reasons to save a wildcard another week.

Meanwhile, Sporting offered some crumbs of comfort to those with no wildcard left in this hot topic on the advantages of using it early.

Liverpool assets are top of many Gameweek 34 shopping lists, with Jordan Henderson gaining plenty of interest. We had a closer look at how he fares when other midfielders such as Lucas are on the pitch. This hot topic also contains some interesting links posted by Ryan from Beavis and Accounting on Chris looking in closer detail at Steven Gerrard’s effect on Henderson’s points potential.

Liverpool’s players, in addition to Eden Hazard, also feature high up in Giggs Boson’s handy double Gameweek form guide.

RuthNZ’s latest curveball, after previously putting forward the case for ditching Harry Kane, is to consider placing the armband in the double Gameweek on Hull’s striker Dame N’Doye. As he points out, the Senegalese striker has some eye-catching stats to tempt those looking for something different. RuthNZ was back again later in the week to explore some of the other key captaincy options for the double Gameweek as well offer some advice to wildcarders to ensure they are thinking beyond Gameweek 34.

Looking at the season as a whole, Nabs Kebabs became the latest to ask for our top players so far in 2014/15. The race to be top of our Hall of Fame is also hotting up, as our latest update following Gameweek 33’s matches shows.

And finally, inspired by a question posed by Stilicho to the Scoutcast team, we asked the community to name a song that summed up their season. Tracks from Simply Red, The Byrds, Oasis and Metallica were among those mentioned.

The Members Tables

Sarjeant has been busy this week constructing a raft of tables looking at set pieces in particular. This collection includes a run down of the season’s best corner taking teams, defenders with most attempts from set plays, teams that concede the most set plays plus a more recent look at how many headed and set play goal attempts teams have conceded over the last six matches.

Leicester assets also came under the microscope in Partick Bateman’s look at the Foxes’ deadliest aeriel threats while Andysnlong looked at the relegation battlers most attacking players.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In RedLightning’s competitions Nick Edge took the lead in his FFS January Wildcard League after Gameweek 33, while Aaron Thorburn continues to top his Top 10K Any Season League and now sits in the top 20 overall.

Greenwindmill continues to dominate the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league. He is now 25 points ahead of second placed Mark and sits in 27th in the overall rankings. Greenwindmill has also taken a 12 point lead going into the double Gameweek in the top 1,000 Any Season League.

This season’s collaborative approach to the Scout Picks, in which a community member and three of the FFScout team come together to form the weekly XI, is continuing to impress. We topped  Gameweek 33’s Scout Picks challenge, the competition organised by @OFCProdigy, and we are also in the lead overall. Mookie and Sticky Mockwell are second and third respectively in the race to win the challenge by the end of the season.

There was less good news for the FFScout team in FFS UEFA’s Cricket themed tournament. The FFScout moderators and contributors team of Sri Lanka notched up their third defeat in a row and their involvement in the competition is now hanging by a thread. Congratulations to those community members that make up the South Africa and West Indies sides, who have already progressed to the knockout stages.

You could perhaps sell one of the Chelsea defenders if you want funds to get more Arsenals. I'd also ditch Davis for Myhill or Pants if you want to start him in GW 37. Schmeichel has good enough fixtures to not need rotation.

Funny, I seem to recall them recording a CS last week Cs an out of form team. And they're about to play several more such teams with some save points sure to follow.

Yes but how often do they keep clean sheets. It's possible but I'd certainly not say reliable.

I wouldn't call any team reliable. Even Chelsea have been vulnerable at the back lately. But to me, a healthy team with good form and fixtures and some semblance of a decent defending capability is good enough. Newcastle for example doesn't fit that. Leicester does.

      Depends on your future plans.

I checked the figures and Cout is something like 33 mins per goal attempt where as Hendo was at 90. Might be slightly out but this was for the last 4 gameweeks.

Coutinho has scored in cup games recently and been unlucky in the league not to score.

On the other hand, Henderson could end up further forward if Rodgers plays Gerrard but would then lose penalties... In other words, flip a coin.

Both are returning from injury and form and fixtures aren't great. There's a hot topic from Ruth NZ this week where (s)he talks about wildcarders ignoring form and fixtures in favour of history, and I feel this is evident with both Brom and Saints defenders.

If I was on a WC, I'd ship Dawson, for sure. I'd probably ship Toby, too, and get Davis.

Saying that, with my FT's, they're stuck in there. I got rid of Clyne for Skrtel, fwiw. Double Saints just isn't worth it.

I think Kane has a higher ceiling. Southampton haven't been defending well and Kane has a very good record against good sides. He's also on pens if Townsend is off

Chelsea will pack a triple decker bus which doesn't suit Sanchez whatsoever.

Chelsea don't score enough goals to justify both midfielders, imo.

They're capable of shutting out anyone, though. Hence the defender - for safety, not because I expect even 1 CS.

Most of Fab's points came in the first half - when Chelsea attacked.

There's been a change of thought, by Mourinho. They're no longer looking to smash teams. 1-0 is good enough, for them. (0-0 on Sunday is what they'll play for).

they both have attacking potentials but Newcastle are in poor form recently and Saints are against Spurs

Yeah. That's what's screwin' with my noggin. I think I will start him. If he doesn't play, then Boyd comes in. Remy is the type that only needs minutes to score. Boyd, more like a few games or more.

That's it. I can see it now. Chelsea go on to beat Arsenal. With Drogba playing. Maybe Costa. Title essentially wrapped up. Remy starts vs Leicester and bags a brace.... It could happen.

I think Skrtel is the best Liverpool defender option. However, will need the cash to bring in Alexis and think i might have to settle for Moreno for a -4 instead. Trying to come to a logical decision as to the likelihood that he will play both games.

Who could challenge Moreno for his spot ? Enrique? Manquillo ? GJ?

There's also Markovic for LWB too. Wouldn't be so certain of him starting both. He has played 14 gmes in a row though.

He get's taken off early a lot though and therefore can sometimes have limited chances of BP's.

Markovic and Ibe will compete for RWB and Moreno at LWB - if they play 3 at the back. In a 4 man defence, Moreno starts.

I can't see him not starting.

Captaincy question. I'm 52 OR so my mini leagues are all wrapped up. Now taking risks for a long shot at 1st (who is 79 points ahead). With that in mind who would you captain?

    A) Hazard - he's the best, make up ground elsewhere

    B) Sterling - probably 2nd best option, and may well be playing OOP, problem is I expect some in the top 50 to also go here

    C) Coutinho - another decent option and may well be playing OOP

    D) Costa - a likely big differential. Could start both, could explode. Very high risk, but he's got a huge goal threat and I've seen worse gambles come off

    E) Aguero - will likely be ignored due to the DGWers, but at home to AVL is ripe for returns

    1. Cheeseoid
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

I think captaining Costa is foolish. It is a significant gamble owning him and should it work that would be enough. AVL have actually been playing pretty well recently. So a SGW player against them is not appealing this week.

I would go for Sterling. You cannot do it all in a week

      Great work mate, first off.

But I think you should give up on 1st. So I'd play it safe and try to slowly make up ground with your differentials. A.

It is, with 5 GWs to go. Even though 2 GWs are left that is 20 points per game week which is astronomical.

Besides, say he takes a punt on Sterling (C) who scores 20 points, it's likely a few others above him have taken the same punt. So I think he should play it safe and try and slowly better his already amazing rank instead of risking a captaincy choice.

disagree mate, speaking from experience, anytime you are in the top 50, you gotta go for the holy grail. luck/decisions rarely work out well enough to land you in the top 100 and gotta make use of it when u can

My thinking also. I'll probably never get here again so gotta roll them dice!

It's not that, it's just it makes more sense to consolidate an amazing rank and try to gradually improve it, instead of risking it all just for the extremely unlikely chance of getting no. 1.

If your going for first it has to be Sterlo

But i wouldnt! Maybe Sterling is a punt enough, guess 90% of the people higher than you will be on Hazard

im contemplating sterling myself, though hazard vs leicester defense is scary indeed...

there's also the possibility of liverpool playing balotelli/borini

Thanks all. I'm currently between Stering and Costa for the armband as I need to make up a lot of ground each week to have any chance, which means differential captains every week.

Sterling is the safer choice, I just have a gut feeling about Costa this week.

I figure it's worth going for - if everything comes on I may get there. If not I'll still likely have a PB rank (currently 724th).

      Wish me luck! 🙂

A wide-ranging opinion has it that Arsenal is going to beat Chelsea. I think there's a better chance of me finding a wormhole in my basement crawlspace.

A hole made by a worm. You might find that

I can see it happening. Chelsea ride their luck all too often and with no strikers fit they're not the same team.

No. I actually don't believe that wormholes would ever be real. Take that, Einstein!
