The Community articles and hot topics echoed with the sound of fluttering wildcards and Fantasy managers’ top songs to sum up their season. For those looking without a wildcard, there was some guidance on how to avert a disastrous plummet down the overall rankings, whilst there was plenty of advice on offer in our Members tables for those looking to take advantage of this week’s double Gameweek. Mini-league wrangles also took centre stage, with just five Gameweeks left time is running out for those looking to wrestle top spot away from the current league leaders.

The Community Articles

The case for following advice from FFScout’s many community experts and the power of statistics was forcefully made by Gussy, who explained how he is on the edge of the top 1,000 in his debut Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season without ever seeing a match.

Cesc Fabregas was the focus of Serjeant’s statistical analysis going into the double Gameweek. As Serjeant reveals, Cesc’s new suitors may be a little too hasty, given his second half of the season displays so far.

Elsewhere our latest Rough with the Smooth we looked back on Gameweek 33’s tales of joy and woe from the community and find out who was the week’s smoothest operator.

After a difficult Gameweek 33, The Puntmaster will be hoping to bounce back in with his  Gameweek 34 trio of punts.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With Chelsea, Liverpool, Leicester and Hull all playing twice this expectation is high among the community of bumper returns in Gameweek 34. Innsie was among our resident experts on hand to give some top tips for surviving double Gameweek fever.

Having a wildcard in play for Gameweek 34 is set to offer a major boost, if key assets from double fixture sides do well. For those without, though, taking hits seems inevitable, according to Pepin, one of many to take part in Captan Ali Cheesoid’s discussion on how to get one over on wildcarders this week.

For Enzo the Baker, those without a wildcard should focus more on damage limitation in his guide to surviving the double Gameweek. He followed that up with a specific look at the pros and cons for the wildcardless of removing Manchester City man David Silva to take advantage of double Gameweek stars.

One option that many with a wildcard haven’t considered is holding a little longer to take advantage of Arsenal’s double Gameweek 37. Here Bod puts forward five key reasons to save a wildcard another week.

Meanwhile, Sporting offered some crumbs of comfort to those with no wildcard left in this hot topic on the advantages of using it early.

Liverpool assets are top of many Gameweek 34 shopping lists, with Jordan Henderson gaining plenty of interest. We had a closer look at how he fares when other midfielders such as Lucas are on the pitch. This hot topic also contains some interesting links posted by Ryan from Beavis and Accounting on Chris looking in closer detail at Steven Gerrard’s effect on Henderson’s points potential.

Liverpool’s players, in addition to Eden Hazard, also feature high up in Giggs Boson’s handy double Gameweek form guide.

RuthNZ’s latest curveball, after previously putting forward the case for ditching Harry Kane, is to consider placing the armband in the double Gameweek on Hull’s striker Dame N’Doye. As he points out, the Senegalese striker has some eye-catching stats to tempt those looking for something different. RuthNZ was back again later in the week to explore some of the other key captaincy options for the double Gameweek as well offer some advice to wildcarders to ensure they are thinking beyond Gameweek 34.

Looking at the season as a whole, Nabs Kebabs became the latest to ask for our top players so far in 2014/15. The race to be top of our Hall of Fame is also hotting up, as our latest update following Gameweek 33’s matches shows.

And finally, inspired by a question posed by Stilicho to the Scoutcast team, we asked the community to name a song that summed up their season. Tracks from Simply Red, The Byrds, Oasis and Metallica were among those mentioned.

The Members Tables

Sarjeant has been busy this week constructing a raft of tables looking at set pieces in particular. This collection includes a run down of the season’s best corner taking teams, defenders with most attempts from set plays, teams that concede the most set plays plus a more recent look at how many headed and set play goal attempts teams have conceded over the last six matches.

Leicester assets also came under the microscope in Partick Bateman’s look at the Foxes’ deadliest aeriel threats while Andysnlong looked at the relegation battlers most attacking players.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In RedLightning’s competitions Nick Edge took the lead in his FFS January Wildcard League after Gameweek 33, while Aaron Thorburn continues to top his Top 10K Any Season League and now sits in the top 20 overall.

Greenwindmill continues to dominate the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league. He is now 25 points ahead of second placed Mark and sits in 27th in the overall rankings. Greenwindmill has also taken a 12 point lead going into the double Gameweek in the top 1,000 Any Season League.

This season’s collaborative approach to the Scout Picks, in which a community member and three of the FFScout team come together to form the weekly XI, is continuing to impress. We topped  Gameweek 33’s Scout Picks challenge, the competition organised by @OFCProdigy, and we are also in the lead overall. Mookie and Sticky Mockwell are second and third respectively in the race to win the challenge by the end of the season.

There was less good news for the FFScout team in FFS UEFA’s Cricket themed tournament. The FFScout moderators and contributors team of Sri Lanka notched up their third defeat in a row and their involvement in the competition is now hanging by a thread. Congratulations to those community members that make up the South Africa and West Indies sides, who have already progressed to the knockout stages.

Not the consensus at all. 2 Chelsea in a DGW when they are chasing the title is not preferable.

A lot have got stuck with Remy and with no comparable Chelsea striker to put in it takes a -8 to rearrange. That's why you are seeing some teams with 2 Chelsea.

I have toby too, but I went for the ndoye punt. Just thought I'd say in case you were wondering what others did in your position. Vardy is playing some tough defences, and it's normally someone unlikely who does well in a dgw. It's a -2 hit which ever striker you go for

Any more opinions on Sterling vs Hazard captain?

.Sterling's fixtures are far better and he will be playing higher up, but his form is far below Hazard's.

.Hazard facing the form team Arsenal as well as battling Leicester whilst having no fit strikers up top. (any Chelsea fans no how far he may or may not push up as a result? does he play higher when drogbas in the squad and if none are fit are we honestly expecting Solanke?!)

Really appreciate any help and all opinions. Better decisions are made in groups. Thanks.

Sterling would disappoint you, if he had a single week against West Brom or Hull you wouldn't consider it, his form hasn't been amazing for someone who has played as a central striker and Liverpool are coming in off the back of a bad season ending defeat so who knows what state of mind they will be in.

Hazard has been consistent and reliable, everyone will be on him so he could hurt you and Chelsea will be in serious mode for these 2 games as they look to see out the league.

The risk on Sterling is outweighed by the risk on Sterling.

Considering the template milfield will likely be:
Hendo - Sanchez - Arsenal Milf - Hazard, come Gw37.

Perhaps opting out of triple Arsenal attack, and using the vital spot to beef up defense with Ospina could be a good way to go for the run-in (eve, WBA, cry, ARS, hul). Maybe a United midfielder like Mata could come in and cause some ruckus in some plans. At 8.5m, he's right in the range with the likes of Ramsey/Ozil that many will likely choose are their third Arsenal spot along with the template Giroud and Sanchez picks an overwhelming majority are looking to run with come their DGW.

Could it be a decent differential down the road for people chasing? Or is Arsenal's attack to hard to ignore for their DGW? (CHE, hul, SWA, mun/SUN, WBA)

    1. Nabs Kebabs
      • 14 Years

At this point it is too hard to decide, so much can change between now and then. The key is to keep options open and make sure your squad is flexible.

      1. Nabs Kebabs
        • 14 Years
        10 years, 10 months ago

At this point it is very 50/50 on a defender or attacker for that third spot, in regards to your question at the end, of course it is an option.

It really is, I agree that having a flexible squad structure is important for these final GW's. It's why I've opted out of double Chelsea defense. Can't help but think Mata may genuinely outscore Ramsey/Ozil 'til season's end. I guess this decision may be more viable for players WC-ing now or next week.

The thing about Arsenal now is there are Cup Final spaces up for grabs in a squad full of competition, 3 attackers is the way to go IMO as everyone will look to stay in form to secure their spot.

Not sure how tight defences will be in these last few games anyway as most teams will have nothing to play for and those at the bottom will be throwing the kitchen sink at everything.

      1. Zasa
        • 11 Years

I can agree with the logic about teams fighting for survival thus equaling less clean sheets, but if you're pointing towards relegation threatened teams. They only play away at Hull Gw35, and home to Sunderland for the DGW. Even if that logic applies here, Arsenal's defensive stats are among the top in the league right now

        http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/6810/

Top three in nearly every important statistical category there, with only four big chances conceded in their last four. Think teams, relegation threatened or not may very well struggle at the Emirates IMO.

Rotation will be the big Arsenal worry for GW37, especially the Sunderland match if there's nothing left to play for. They play Sunday, Wednesday, Sunday then FAC final the following Saturday. Ospina is obviously nailed on, especially with Szczesny on FAC duty. The likes of Bellerin, Ramsey, Cazorla and Giroud could easily get rested for one of the final 3 league games.

That's may be true, albeit I'm not too informed of Wenger's tendency to bench towards the end of the season, then surely it's the midfielders that are most dispensable at that stage, no? Considering the plethora of options Wenger would have assuming Wilshere, Walcott and others are fit by then.

    5. Joggers Nipple

Think the run of hul, SWA, mun/SUN, WBA doesnt get much sweeter.

Giroud is in obviously. Sanchez too, if you can afford him.

As i have Mingolet i will keep him until the end of the season so that kind of makes my mind up on 3 ARS attacking option. Prob Giroud, Ozil and Ramsey for me.

Also this is made easier as we get rid of Fab and Sterling, personally dont want them too long.

You're right, those final three home games are immaculate. Plus things have been ticking for Arsenal lately since Ramsey was back in the mix, I can see how in your situation triple Arsenal attack is a give-in though.

    6. Billy Ketsu
      • 15 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

Yes, it's an interesting point. With the FA Cup final looming there's always a chance that Groot, Sanchez, Ozil and Ramsey get reduced minutes towards the end of the season. I suppose it depends on other factors but if Arsenal somehow have second place wrapped up by then rotation is almost certain. Having Koscielney over Ozil ( for example ) could be better value. It's very difficult to say until we're a bit closer though.

Agreed that a lot is up in the air right now and who know's what injuries may ravage their team by then or what players may be on a hot-streak.

Maybe Ospina is the more boring pick, but he does give a steady supply at a good chance of a clean sheet from their run-in. I've seen a lot of Panti/Schmeichel combos with two big hitters and three ubers, in the backline alone an Arsenal defender may be a decent differential to have as many will be relying on double Leicester clean sheets for their good run here.

That too is a good option albeit a tad more expensive. Wouldn't be surprised for him to no longer be part of the most owned midfielders come Gw35/36 in the top 10k, with many eyeing Arsenal assets to replace the current DGW midfielder piled up in teams.

I would suggest people not to put all the focus on arsenal. There could be rotations there.

It's probably punting time then I'm afraid. The variance each week is quite high...like 15 points but to consistently catch up 15 points a week from here on in....punt?

I'd get rid of Baines for an Ars defender to make it easier to prepare for their double and I'd upgrade Hendo to Coutinho. Looks quality though.

Leicester is not worth a -4. Though I took a hit for Huth 🙂 For fun, Burnley don't defend well against set pieces. Though morgan has more shots than huth apparently which I didn't know

Too much of a risk to rely on ANY 2 of the below happening by the GW36 deadline?

    A) Sterling to rise 0.1m
    B) Sanchez to fall 0.1m
    C) Giroud to fall 0.1m
    D) Costa to rise 0.2m

If 2 of these don't happen then I can't afford to get Sanchez back in 2 weeks, and may lead me to starting with Moreno instead of Skrtel on my WC this week.

      Sterling will
Costa will get his obligatory rise for getting the flag removed, if he scores straight away you get your wish 🙂

    Sterling or Hazard captain?

    1. ivangrozny
      • 11 Years

That was my dilemma too. My sense is telling me that Chelsea won't score lots of goals & Liverpool is going to score more, so going with that logic Sterling has more chances to outscore Hazard & that's how I explained to myself why i capped Sterling. Also, I was looking for a differential, but I think I would put Sterling no matter what just because of sake of a play.
