Although Sunday beckons in just two Premier League fixtures, there are plenty of points at stake as four sides rich in Fantasy talent do battle. Everton play host to Manchester United in the lunchtime kick off, with the Red Devils looking to cast aside their defeat to Chelsea and snap the Toffees’ five-match unbeaten streak. Arsenal’s home clash against the Blues caps headlines the weekend’s action, with Jose Mourinho’s men all but securing the Premier League crown in the event of an Emirates win.

Everton welcome United to Goodison Park in search of their fifth victory in six outings. Roberto Martinez’s side have been particularly resilient at Goodison in recent weeks and have served up five clean sheets in the last six in front of their own fans, as Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman make a late scramble up the Fantasy standings. United are now enjoying goals from midfield, with Juan Mata (three in four), Marouane Fellaini (two in five) and Ander Herrera (two in three) all contributing to the cause.

The team news from Goodison is significant for both sides. Everton hand a start to striker Romelu Lukaku after he saw action as a substitute in the win over Burnley last time out. Leon Osman also returns to the teamsheet as Kevin Mirallas and Arouna Kone drop to the bench. As for United, they are able to welcome back Daley Blind to the midfield engine room, allowing Wayne Rooney to shift to the attack against his former club: Radamel Falcao makes way.

Sunday’s main event promises to be a tight affair that could become attritional; Arsenal and Chelsea have both conceded just seven goals in their previous 12 matches and it’s fair to say that Jose Mourinho’s side will be containing the Gunners threat as a first priority. Arsenal have recorded eight straight wins since a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur back in early February, with Olivier Giroud’s red-hot form (seven goals in as many starts) driving their success. With two goals and three assists in four league outings, Aaron Ramsey is showing glimpses of least season’s breakthrough star. Eden Hazard has delivered attacking returns in 13 of his last 17 appearances and promises to keep Arsenal occupied at the back.

A huge reason Utd got top 4 this year is because Liverpool lost Suarez and Sturridge was injured for most of the year. Moyes got a lot of criticism but to be fair he wasn't as bad as the media made him out to be. Moyes just lacks a big game mentality like Rodgers.

Utd's fault for spending in the wrong areas.

As was Liverpool's for wasting all the Suarez money.

Yes they did not spend well but they spent in the areas that needed strengthening like the striker spot. Utd have always needed more depth in that CB position.

But wasting money in those areas is essentially the same thing. They didn't address the problems at all, spending 16 million on Balo was the exact same as not bothering at all.

Essentially my point is is that Utd can't complain about injuries at the CB spot when they knew going into the season they were short there.

More than just CB injuries but my biggest gripe here is saying a huge reason they've possibly gotten CL is Liverpool lacking Suarez. It is such rubbish, United have earned a lot of their points. They're 1 point behind Arsenal, 2 behind City. Yes, Liverpool could be competing with Suarez, but it isn't a huge reason.

Oh and you lot bought Sturridge when you knew how injury prone he was. So you can't complain about him missing out either.

I'm not saying Utd haven't earned their points but that the Liverpool team from last season scored 50+ goals more. LvG is more fortunate than Moyes in that regard.

And they conceded 50 goals. Pool were great last season but Suarez was there the previous season and they didn't finish in the top 4 so there's nothing to say this season would have been the exact same.

The issue for me is that neither Arsenal or City are lucky because Suarez has left but United are.

The variables changed. Liverpool had Europe this season, Utd (LvG) didn't. When Moyes was in charge Utd had Europe and Liverpool didn't. That extra prep and rest between games is vital.

Also, LvG got a huge transfer kitty this season yet is only 6pts higher than Moyes.

It is clear to see City/Liverpool have dropped significantly since last season which has helped Utd.

Liverpool were out of Europe soon enough. I mean I understand what you say there but my issue is a) assuming Suarez staying would have made Pool the same team as last season even though they hadn't performed that well in previous seasons with him there and b) saying that it is a"big " reason. It is a factor, I can agree, but when you say that you essentially are writing off a lot of what United have done this season. And that grates on me. Here's a flip side, Arsenal have improved massively compared to last season, yes? Because United are still only 1 point being them.

I'm not complaining about the Moyes stuff, he got a rough time at United and I didn't want him turfed out so quickly. It is more this sense that United have been purely lucky this season which irritates me.

Utd as a team did well! They certainly deserve top 4 but I'm saying there were factors that made LvG look significantly better than Moyes.

I think the top 4 off of merit is correct. LvG has dominated the big games and it's right for Utd to be in Europe.

                        *behind them

And this isn't just pointed at you BTW, all of what United have managed to do this season has been written off. They've had 2 defeats after a big run being undefeated, and are back to being lucky apparently.

See my second reply, I don't mean to be snapping but I've been reading about them being lucky for so long that it just cracked something off 😛

And I agree on the LVG vs Moyes stuff, I do think DM had a rough deal at United and felt very sorry for him tbh. He made mistakes, but so has LVG. Realistically, it was a poisoned chalice, and one of the more disappointing times I've had following United (seeing how he was treated)

it was the club's fault that literally all defensive players were injured and we relied entirely on youth? even if we bought a CB, it would have been ONE player, with kids still around him

Yes but a huge reason Liverpool got top 4 last season was because they had 1 genuine world class player , no Europe , and knocked out of both domestic cups early

Moyes had 6pts less at this stage, with a worse squad and Europe. He also had to play against a more impressive City/Liverpool side last season.

Fabregas as a false nine for Barca: 34 games, 16 goals, 11 assists.

He may or may not be playing there for Chelsea, but he's been very productive in that position. I don't have easy access to positions he's played for Spain, but he also scored well in Euro 2012 playing there. Like it or lump it, its hard to argue that it wouldn't be good news for Cesc owners!

He isn't fast enough to play that role in a counter attack strategy.

Hazard almost never delivers the ball first time so he wouldn't have to be.

I'm not sure of that. He needs to drop deep to receive the ball when Chelsea win it, play their quick counter attackers in with a through ball, and maybe arrive late in the box for a finish.

Similar to Bergkamp in the invincibles - a very fast counter attacking side, that revolved around a slow centre forward.

Its a very different role to the false 9 role at Barca though. Fabregas has no experience in such a role.

Maybe. Its hard to argue that if Chelsea are going to score though, he's less likely to get in this position than playing deeper.

And part of the reason he left was because he hated playing that position.
