Our quest for some overlooked alternatives brings us to consider United’s Spanish playmaker, Villa’s up and coming youngster and the Black Cats’ form forward ahead of this morning’s deadline.

Juan Mata

Coming off the back of consecutive defeats and with bragging rights over local rivals Manchester City still in the balance, you’d expect United to come flying out of the blocks against West Brom later today. With three goals and one assist to his name in five outings, Juan Mata (8.5) could be the home player to profit most from such a spirited response – the Spain international crafted three more chances (11) than any of his midfield team-mates in the last six Gameweeks, while also ranking joint-top with regards to shots on target (three) over the same period.

Although the Red Devils carded back-to-back losses on the road, their home form has been redoubtable of late. In the last six matches at Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal’s outfit have netted 18 and conceded five, winning each encounter in the process. Coupled to that, the Baggies lay claim to one of the worst away records in the league, having accrued fewer goals on their travels (11) than any other team and earning just three wins away from The Hawthorns – strengthening the notion that United, and hence Mata, will dictate the tempo of the match.

Following that, trips to Palace and Hull sandwich a visit of Arsenal as the little Spaniard looks to cement his place in Van Gaal’s plans for the following campaign.

Jack Grealish

Having only earned his first start for the club in Gameweek 31, Jack Grealish (4.3) has emerged as a surprise target for investment in the dying embers of the season. The Aston Villa academy product turned out an accomplished performance at Manchester City last weekend in the No. 10 role, belying his limited experience in the top flight. No midfielder on either side in that head-to-head engineered more chances (three) than Grealish, underlining the youngster’s rapid acclimatisation.

Indeed, over the last four Gameweeks, Grealish has created six chances for team-mates in Villa’s trio of fixtures – his average of 38 minutes per key pass is quicker than the likes of Cesc Fabregas (41.7), Eden Hazard (46.8) and David Silva (51.3) during that period.

The Villains now embark on three home fixtures (EVE, WHU, sou, BUR) in the next four that present their attacking contingent with a strong chance of Fantasy returns. First up is a home clash against the Toffees, who, in spite of their recent form, have managed just two clean sheets outside of Goodison all season.

With Christian Benteke in such prolific form (eight goals in seven), the modestly priced Grealish harbours the potential to offer great value in the coming weeks, with his price tag also working as an enabler for those needing to free up funds to draft in Arsenal’s big hitters for their double Gameweek 37.

Connor Wickham

In the wake of double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers turn their attention towards Sunderland and Arsenal, with both clubs braced for a pair of fixtures in Gameweek 37. As Christian Benteke, Charlie Austin and Dame N’Doye have shown in recent double, recruits from the less-favoured outfits have the potential to prove key differentials and, having notched in each of his last two, Connor Wickham (5.6) has usurped Jermain Defoe in our thinking as a potential route into the Black Cats attack.

Dick Advocaat’s men face two testing match-ups (SOU, eve) before they play their match in hand in their double (LEI, ars). That being said, Saints are winless in their last four road matches (three losses, one draw). Furthermore, while the Foxes have enjoyed success in the final third in recent Gameweeks, their rearguard has conceded 17 shots inside the box in their last two league ties. Having scored five times in the final six fixtures of the previous campaign, Wickham could be gearing up for more of the same as the Wearsiders attempt to scramble away from the drop zone.

    Starting 11 look in order?

    Ospina
    Terry / Moreno / Schlupp
    Sterling / Ramsey / Coutinho / Hazard
    Aguero(C) / Kane / Vardy
    —————————————————
    Schmeichel - Siggy - Bellerin - Clichy

Not sure about goalie and defender lineup

That's my dilemma, don't want to put all eggs in one basket. Worried that Leicester will be fatigued from the Chelsea fight and Huth might be out. Really just playing Shclupp for attacking return.

Bellerin's not bad attacking wise either.

I think you're definitely right to spread the risk and play one of each tho. I think I'd be tempted to swap it round, play kasper (more chance of save points I reckon) and bellerin - pretty similar attacking threat to Schlupp (also returning from injury).

Then again, it's splitting hairs so I don't think you can go too far wrong either way.

          Good luck 🙂

    Bench 1 from:

Well, they probably have a similar expectation. So the reason for going for the lower owned player would typically be for a higher level of variance. Higher points swing either way, be it down or up.

Or you could just have an instinct or course!

      1. Heels_Over_Head
        • 12 Years

My instincts are gone. My ML leader (who I trail by 50) has both Aguero and Hazard so I'd gander he captains Aguero which already make us different... and if he captain Hazard and I don't, it could all go very badly...

Just was looking at my team trying to consider what my alternate is to following the herd this week. Tough call every week when chasing such a big lead with so little time.

Of course, those numbers are nothing compared to Kun vs Spurs.... 😉
And, it's been pointed out that Sanchez has only had one big game since January, and the current Hull is apparently different from the old Hull, so who knows.
All of this persuaded me to get Sanchez this week rather than wait, but that's enough risk for me.

It's the fear factor. I feel like (C) Sergio is the way to go, but more people will captain haz, and I've consistently got my captaincy wrong this year, particularly when I've tried to deviate from the norm.

I do feel like Hazard is the "safe" choice. Mind you, I've got a slim lead and am being chased by a team who captains Hazard every week. So, for me, it probably is the safe move.

At the moment, it's with Kun, but can't be sure I won't switch it.

    A) Chelsea to continue their professional performances, narrow victory. 3 points to be champs instead of securing the the title against Liverpool or WBA away...and definitely not in the last game of the season. Also, won't have the benefit of knowing if Arsenal or City muck up - those teams play after Chelsea. 3 points first and foremost - boring or not.

    B) Chelsea to put Palace, who have been leaking goals of late, to the sword. Palace to go out all guns blazing, with nothing to lose and hence very exposed at the back. CHE to win the league in style and shut the critics up..bucking the trend of recent performances.

    1. Geordienufc1
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

I would prefer B, but I think A is more likely. Also entirely possible that the team will approach the game with the aim of just keeping it tight and grabbing the win, but actually run out 2 or 3 nil winners due to Palace's shortcomings.

Palace will park the bus imo.

They always liked to have a say on who winds the title, and I think they will love to spoil their neighbour's party and I think the Palace fans would love that sort of thing too.

But I think Chelsea will not worry about that much and will grind out the victory as they have been doing ever since the Swansea game. So, all in all, I don't see it to be a high scoring game at all.

      Hedge bets with Henderson.

You still have Cout for Pool cover and Gerrard could play to diminish Hendo's possibilities.

      Tough, but necessary.

Just got back from my own football match. Torrential rain the whole game. Got slaughtered 7-2 by our fiercest rivals. Happy days.

Fpl to cheer me up this evening tho for sure 😉

What I'm not understanding, for all those saying go Kun or Giroud over Hazard, is why not captain Kane then..

I posted the same question yesterday.

Both team have to win and City is shocking at the back.

yep. yet nobody really talking Kane. Even though, City are known to concede and Spurs the home side.

Could be a masterstroke. Or an epic fail.

Fortune favours the brave? Or condemns the idiotic.

As you can see, I have no idea who to captain 😛

You know, I just went back and counted Hazard's multi goal or assist matches. He has 2 all season.

Whereas Kun, Kane and Giroud all have 7+.

Hazard is not the greatest captain pick imo.

This has got GW30 all over it, Aguero was at home to West Brom who many expected to smash, Kane home to a resolute Leicester, that was a close call and went the way of Kane.

After the event those that went on Kane explained they did so because Aguero was playing or had played in the week so Kane would be fresher, the same could be said this week surely?

This will be Hazard's 3rd game in 7 days, same for Chelsea, are you certain they won't be leggy and will grind a win out? Either way it's party time for them so I'm not expecting Palace to bend over.

He's done it twice before, blanked 4 games in a row in Aug and then 3 games in a row later in the year.

If Chelsea are winning easily who's to say Jose won't make 3 subs so his squad can enjoy the day?
