Champions League 2014/15 – Fantasy iTeam Matchday 12 Picks

We’re just hours away from the start of the second leg stage of this season’s Champions League semi-final stages. As always, we assess the Fantasy iTeam (FiT) Player Price List and offer two players per team for your perusal ahead of Matchday 12’s deadline.

A free Fantasy football app, FiT is available on a number of mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android. Fantasy managers have until 10 minutes before the first kick-off in any given Matchday to make any final alterations to their starting XIs – this evening, then, that deadline is 7.35pm, as Pep Guardiola’s Bayern play host to Barcelona in Munich.

We’re supporting FiT throughout the competition and have an official Fantasy Football Scout League, with an iPad mini available to the winner. There’s also a VIP European Match Day Experience for two on offer for the overall winner of the Fantasy iTeam Champions League game.

Tuesday 12 May

Bayern Munich welcome Barcelona to the Allianz Arena in the midst of a four-match losing streak, scoring just once in that period. If the Bundesliga champions harbour any aspirations of overhauling a three-goal deficit, Robert Lewandowski (10.8) will have to put in a career-defining performance. The Polish frontman netted three times in Bayern’s last two home European ties and attempted more shots (three) than any of his team-mates in the reverse fixture.

Thomas Muller (9.6) has a knack of picking up goals at crucial moments. The World Cup winner could well profit from the fact that Bayern have little choice but to play expansive football in the pursuit of an unlikely comeback. Muller registered four goals in his last eight Bundesliga starts but, even more pertinently, tucked away another four in Bayern’s previous three home clashes in the Champions League.

Neymar is enjoying the finest spell of his Barcelona career. The Brazilian has netted in his last six outings, tallying seven goals across that stretch. Furthermore, he’s notched four times in the Catalan club’s previous trio of Champions League clashes, more than justifying his hefty 11.0 price tag. Neymar only failed to deliver attacking returns in one of his last nine starts in all competitions, underlining his laudable consistency.

Ivan Rakitic (7.0) was rested for Barcelona’s 2-0 home win against Real Sociedad and boasts good form in recent weeks. The Croatian playmaker – who’s filled the void left upon Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Chelsea with aplomb – delivered a goal and two assists in his last two starts and is thriving at the Nou Camp club since a summer move from Sevilla.

Wednesday 13 May

With a goal and assist in his last two league outings, Isco (6.5) has ramped up his productivity of late. During Madrid’s last two La Liga ties, only James Rodriguez (eight) crafted more chances that the former Malaga starlet (six), illustrating his assist potential. Isco has yet to open his European account this term but three goals in Madrid’s La Decima campaign prove he’s capable of impacting matches in the Champions League.

Toni Kroos (7.9) picked up a knock in Los Blancos’ 2-2 draw with Valencia on Saturday but has recovered in time to be selected for the Bernabeu leg. Granted, Kroos’ attacking output is far from eye-catching (one goal in four starts), yet the German international attempted more shots than any other Madrid player in the reverse fixture (three) and executed four shots in the Sevilla head-to-head, rendering him the biggest goal threat behind Cristiano Ronaldo of late.

Paul Pogba’s return to the Juventus’ first team is a huge boost ahead of the Madrid showdown. The 8.2-priced midfielder clocked 62 minutes in The Old Lady’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari on the weekend and netted his side’s opener. Injuries aside, Pogba served up attacking returns in eight of his previous 12 starts in all competitions, notching six goals in the process.

Alvaro Morata (6.5) will have a point to prove when he returns to the home of his former employers on Wednesday. The young Spaniard certainly excelled in the first leg, netting the opener and producing more shots on target than Madrid’s front two combined. Morata was rested in the last round of Serie A fixtures and carries the benefit of a budget price point.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SCOUT LEAGUE

We’ve already set up an official Fantasy Football Scout league for you to join, with an iPad mini on offer to the winner – the league name is Fantasy Football Scout and the pin is 11155.

If you look back at your initial week 1 squad, what's the most surprising player you see?

I think i have to go with Gabby Agbonlahor.
He lasted 3 weeks, and stayed on my bench the whole time...

If you were no10in the world would you rather try to go for glory (close a gap of 55) and make incredible punts such as Walcott and Johnson or try to stay in the top10 (which would result in hapiness but nothing material)

Same question but I'd like to narrow it down to:

'If you were no.2 in the world would you rather try to go for glory (close a gap of 27) and make incredible punts or try to stay in the top 2/3 (which would result in happiness but nothing material)'

In your case I would definitely go for it. You will probably stay in the top10 which is almost the same as second if people ASK you in a month. Wish you luck. I guess we cant talk about our exact ideas now?! 🙂

Glory. 27pts is not a massive gap but teams are very similar.

I don't know how Punty I'd be, just differential would be great.

Like Frank Lampard final week for me, started the last 4. The eye is very much on Gerrard but I smell a Frank bang bang double in the final gw if its his last game on English soil it could be very much do it for Frank.

Last week of last season I had a near 30 pt lead smoked by the guy behind me who captained Gerrard in a stand out Liverpool fixture and bought Schurrle who came on and scored two. Miracles can happen.

I had Hazard who blanked and Schurrle started on the bench if I remember.

It was a tough loss but fair play to the victor he played a blinding final gw.

Hopefully go one better and win top prize this year I want it more than the cash difference.

55 just out of reach I fear. If it were me though I would go all out. Otherwise there may be another GW38 Lukaku and you will regret never having tried.

What are people doing with 365's offer on the match tonight?

Was going to back Barca or draw at 1.55 and then put the risk free on Bayern at 2.55 but they suspended this market the moment the match started the last time.

    Any ideas?

Shameless repost but I really need your advise.
    Panti Krul
    Ivan Bellerin Skrtel Naughton Wisdom
    Hazard Sanchez Hendo Silva Boyd
    Vardy Kun Kane

0.4 ITB, 1FT. Chasing 12 points in the ML. What do I do? I'm pretty sure my rival will bring 2 arsenal mids with his 2 FT, probably Ramsey and Sanchez... gotta go for the punts I guess.
    A) Hazard -> Ramsey
    B) Hazerd, Vardy -> Gomez, Giroud -4
    C) Boyd, Kane -> Gomez, Defoe -4

Some help would be appreciated guys:

    Myhill - Mignolet
    Terry - Dawson - Toby - Naughton - Hutton
    Silva - Sterling - Eriksen - Sanchez - Sinclair
    Kun - Kane - Tekkers

My defence is pretty weak and I only have one Arsenal player. Which option is best:

    A - Sterling & Toby > Rambo and PvA for -4 hit
    B - Sterling & Toby > Santi & Bellerin for -4 hit
    C - Sterling & Eriksen > Rambo & Gomez for -4 hit
    D - Sterling > Santi FT

Is anyone else sick of hearing Piers Morgan championing his mate Kevin Pietersen's return to the England side?

The guy is just a talentless supposed celebrity who is hardly an authority on cricket. Anyone with half a brain can see that Pietersen is an egotistical non-team player who is caught up in his own self-importance. Surely the management know best the effect his return would have on the dressing room and letting him back in after 'those texts' would set a dangerous precedent.

You clearly don't know much about managing a team. Don't let the Cole/Sheringham argument fool you. That was exceptional. Look at what happens to almost any other sportsman who betrays his teamates and the management. Nothing further.

      Bet365

Over 0.5 goals bet placed, now its the anxious wait for a goal before betting on next goalscorer (£50)

What was your biggest mistake this season? Mine was to play Wisdom ahead of Chester in GW1. Since than I never had a doubledigit player or the wrong defender on the bench (except for PVA this week but I would play McShane at home vs Burnley ahead of him everyday of the week).
I also remember that I missed out on a defenders 6-7points as 1point-Zouma came on vs Hull after Cuadrado, who would have been the third sub was already standing next to the fourth official, ready to come on and Chelsea scored instead of a throw in or a freekick which obv chances Mous mind. Everyone was laughing. The ref, Cuadrado, Zouma and I was crying 🙂

        Too many to list.

Probably dumping Costa before his Everton haul.

It was the first of many.

I played my wildcard when I didn't have to and played my Jan too early both defined by season greater than one single move.

The point swing could've been so different.

Some help would be appreciated guys. Need to ship either Dawson or Toby in order to bring in Rambo. Which is the best option:

      A: Toby > Wasilewski
      B: Dawson > PvA

PvA has a DGW but include away games to Arsenal and Chelsea whereas Wasil has two decent games
