For the final time this season, we take a look at the Sky Sports game ahead of Sunday’s ten fixtures. As always,we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team.

Gameweek 40 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Southampton vs Aston VillaSadio Mane
Burnley vs StokeJack Butland
QPR vs NewcastleCharlie Austin
Sunderland vs LeicesterKasper Schmeichel
Tottenham vs HullDanny Rose
West Ham vs EvertonJohn Stones
Liverpool vs Crystal PalaceJason Puncheon
Swansea vs Man CityYaya Toure
Man United vs ArsenalAshley Young
West Brom vs ChelseaSaido Berahino
Arsenal vs SunderlandJohn O’Shea

The penultimate week threw up lots of differentials, with only Yaya Toure (9.9%) owned by a significant amount of managers. Arsenal were the real let-downs, with managers drafting in their assets in droves to take advantage of the double but were left frustrated by their lack of goals.

Gameweek 40 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed to pick up saves bonus this week. Costel Pantilimon was the real hero – he earned bonus for eight saves and also managed two clean sheets to pick up 16 points for Sunderland’s double. QPR’s Robert Green looks like earning the bonus equivalent of the golden glove, as he sits on 32 additional points.

In defence, six players grabbed bonus, five for tackles and one for passes completed. Pablo Zabaleta has the most bonus points(24) amongst defenders, whilst Cesar Azpilicueta is just two behind.

In midfield there were 21 beneficiaries in total: 15 for tackling and 11 for passes. Five players managed to earn both – all central midfielders, one of those was Nemanja Matic, who is the game’s highest bonus point earner with 54 points credited – almost the equivalent of 11 goals!

No forwards earned bonus this week but Wayne Rooney remains at the summit with 10 bonus points – all earned from passing.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Cesc Fabregas is banned for the weekend following his red card, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling’s form has been poor in recent weeks, Wayne Rooney is doubtful after a leg injury whilst Sergio Aguero is a victim of the acquisition of Arsenal players as we see below.

Arsenal dominate after being involved on Wednesday night and unfortunately it was the attacking assets that were targeted for their 0-0 draw. Fantasy managers (myself included) will be sweating on them featuring on the final day after Arsene Wenger looks set to shuffle his starting XI.

Notes

My entire week can be summed up by the word “Mane”. The Southampton winger came good with an astonishing hat-trick, assist and MoTM award to earn 25 points – long overdue after watching him tease me for weeks. Aside from him, only David Silva managed to deliver, picking up ten points away to Swansea. My captains, in particular, produced nothing but I imagine it was the same for many. On a more positive note, we’re in the penultimate week and I’m sat in 36th position overall, continuing my decent Sky game record – at one stage I didn’t think I would make it but the acquisitions of Schlupp, Dawson, Silva and Mane in the later weeks really helped my cause. My concern is going into the final week without Sergio Aguero. Considering that many will have him – and very likely as captain – there’s still a chance I’ll slip out of the top 100 if he racks up another huge haul. The sofa will be firmly in place!

Captain Plan
With all matches on Sunday at 15:00 and so many questions over final day line-ups, it’s a real lottery. Of course, those holding position will likely opt for Aguero but if you’re chasing, I fancy a punt on Romelu Lukaku or David Silva to try and make a late climb to victory.

With one freebie, I am chasing opponents with 13 and 15 point leads. I need advice on the best transfers to make so that I can stand a chance of winning my minileage.
Opponent with 15 point lead (potentially no goalkeeper for him bt I fear Bolassie)
    Guzan (Speroni)
    Coleman Bertrand Hutton (Wisdom Azpili)
Sanchez Downing Carzola Bolassie (Jones of Burnley)
    Aguero Kane Benteke

The second opponent (potentially no keeper too but I fear Silva)
    De Gea (Jakupovic)
    Moreno Ivanovic Rose (Blacket Azpili)
Sanchez Henderson Cazorla Silva (Cant recall 5th mid)
    Austin Kane Giroud

    My team is
    Schmeichel (Pants)
    Bellerin Ivan PVA (Yun Upson)
    Sanchez Coutinho Gerrard Mahrez Hazard
    Aguero Giroud (Defoe)
I heard Terry wants to break some goalscoring record so by default I will get him. I am now looking for an 8.8 midfielder who will score the most goals. I am thinking of Mata as Man U would want to take their chances for an automatic champions league qualification. I fear Arsenal benching players.
Choose the best course of action (All except E are for -4)
    A. Upson and Hazard>Terry and Mata
    B. Upson and Hazard> Terry and Bolassie
    C. Upson and Hazard> Morgan/Schlupp and Silva/Mata/Bolassie
    D. Hazard and Defoe> Costa and Bolassie (I will play PVA and potentially Yun)
    E. Hazard > Silva (I will play PVA and potentially Yun
    F. Other transfer (Specify)

    Current team:

    Myhill
    Bellerín | Schlupp | Terry
    Ramsey | Hazard | Silva | Sánchez
    Benteke | Vardy |Agüero

Subs: Krul | Grealish | van Aanholt | Alderweireld

Bar Myhill they all play at home, but I prefer him over Krul. I have 1 FT and 0.8 left in the bank.

I've been looking at doing Ramsey > Bolasie/Puncheon for the last week and captaining Benteke. With the news on Hazard I'll probably have to take a -4, but who else is worth buying in midfield?

I know and Koeman was right up there. They sold alot of the best players and his work in the transfer market was outstanding and getting them to play even more attractive football. I just think the wheels came off a bit in the second half of the season and Korman was selected for his already growing reputation in management. I just feel that Monk coming from playing/coaching to management so quickly and getting the team to improve and be so consistent especially after selling Bony is a great achievement

I guess it depends where you judge it from. If you asked at the beginning of the season, Koeman getting Saints to 7th would be the big achievement. If you were looking at Christmas, Saints at 7th doesn't seem remarkable and Leicester surviving would be the surprise.

Oh i have no doubts, just not sure how much of a game it will be. Plus Mourinho said he would like Christensen to play. Was thinking he might come on for Terry so he can get and end of season ovation.

This all goes to he ll if Chelsea concede just 1. And their record against Sunderland at home recently is mixed.

I wouldn't do it for -4 and i wouldn't get rid of Kolarov.

So many folks talking about taking a final GW hit - who is a fan of this type of punt with no time to earn back the minus?

Seems fool-hardy to me, but I suppose if you are chasing and going to lose your league anyway, why not?

            That said I did a -4 a couple weeks back with Hendo/Sterling > Silva/Young which proved a 42-13 point advantage.

                Yeah, I suppose.

I am at 516 and unlikely to drop out of the top 1K, but a big score could bring it in a couple hundred places.

            Mignolet, (Pants)
            Clyne, Moreno, Vlaar (Toby, Baird)
            Sanchez, Silva, Cazorla, Ozil, (Cambiasso)
            Kane, Aguero, Benteke(c)

Am 13 points behind rival, going to do a -4 hit because why not. Kane + Clyne/Cazorla out for:

            A) Lukaku + £4m defender (Wasil most likely)
            B) Lukaku + £6.6m midfield (could punt on Sissoko/Young/Milner, difficult price range)
            C) Ulloa + £7m defender - Smalling could be good
            D) Ulloa + £10m mid - Walcott possibly
            E) Lukaku + £9.3m mid (would get rid of Sanchez instead of Caz)

Ulloa would cover the 2 people below me but i have a feeling Lukaku could destroy a failing Spurs side, plus no one else in my ML has him
