For the final time this season, our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders, arrives in time to guide the armband thinking. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the captaincy conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero leads the way in this week’s Captain Poll, with over 35% of the votes cast. The City striker faces a Southampton side that’s picked up a single point in their last six away matches and has scored in each of his last three at the Etihad, including the 23-point haul against QPR in Gameweek 36. Manuel Pellegrini’s men are looking for a seventh straight win in front of their own supporters and have been in fine scoring form, netting at least twice in their previous six home matches.

Christian Benteke is next in line with almost 18% backing. The Belgian has racked up 11 goals, an assist and 15 bonus points in his last ten ahead of a home clash with Burnley, but with next weekend’s FA Cup final also to consider, there remains a slight fear that Benteke’s minutes could be managed come Sunday.

Alexis Sanchez sits just behind the Belgian in third spot ahead of Arsenal’s home encounter with West Brom. The Chilean’s form is a concern, however – he’s scored in just one of his last six, whilst Arsenal have failed to net in their previous three at the Emirates. Bearing in mind that the Baggies have four clean sheets in five, Sanchez will need to up his form considerably. Like Benteke, there’s also the possible threat of rotation ahead of the Wembley final to factor in.

Eden Hazard takes fourth place for Chelsea’s clash with Sunderland. There’s no doubt that his 6% of votes were accrued prior to the news that that he’s undergone emergency dental surgery – a factor that makes him a serious doubt for Sunday’s encounter. Although he’s scored just once in his last five, three of those matches have been away – Hazard has netted in three of his previous four at the Bridge and, if available, could emerge as an armband differential. The Black Cats defence will be no pushover, however, as they arrive in West London off the back of three successive shut-outs.

Further down our poll listing, Hazard’s team-mate, Diego Costa has emerged as another potential differential. Unlike the Belgian, he looks certain to start against Dick Advocat’s side, although, with Cesc Fabregas and perhaps Hazard missing, there are question marks about Costa’s likely ammunition, as well as his sharpness in front of goal following injury.

Romelu Lukaku is also amongst the chasing pack after producing two goals and an assist in his last three. Only just under 3% are willing to consider him for the armband, though visitors Spurs have been defensively dire on the road and managed just three clean sheets.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hi

I was wondering who I should make my captain for the final game of the season and my mini league is very close and the last gameweek will decide who finishes where. inc bench my team is in a 3-4-3

    Mignolet

Terry, Rose, Smalling ((B) Clyne, Wisom)
Yaya Toure, Albrighton, Ramsey, Sanchez ((B) Mata)
    Benteke, Ulloa, Giroud

any help would be great, I have no idea especially with FA Cup

Captain Benteke. Sherwood indicated he is going to play a full strength team.

I would play Mata ahead of Albrighton or Ramsey (some say the Welshman might be rested).

I benched mata as he isn't really being consistent of late, I though albrighton would be a good choice as they are playing qpr at home, I thought arsenal players are gonna want to bounce back but they have the fa cup final, would they bench ramsey for walcott?

I don't think Young is injured at all - he might have something minor that will be fixed in the summer but it hasn't stopped him playing.

Hodgson was just using an excuse to cover the fact that he prefers Donkey Welbeck. He also said he didn't pick Grealish because it might upset the Irish. He is the epitome of jobsworth incompetence when it comes to managing at the top level.

Ok so have the typical big hitters in midfield, Has, Sanchez, caz, Silva.

Now have Gibson on bench that I could sell and with my last 0.2 buy Albrighton. As thinking cover if Haz doesn't play.

Or is it a waste of money and transfer Haz for whoever I want?

      Advice much appreciated

I'm in the mix for three prizes in my MLs tomorrow. 2 pts ahead in one, 9 pts in another and 0 pts in the third. I've got 1 FT. I can't see that there really are any standout candidates that I must have. Since I'm slightly ahead I guess I shouldn't take any hits as it is too big a risk.

      What should my transfer be?

I've done my moves and I've gone for pts for the cricket WC instead of the LAWR match, so I'm not fishing.
My match with Athletico is a classic H2H...as it happens we have both wandered into a fairly crappy team, but that doesn't matter, what matters is trying to win the tie...I'd be very curious if you could take a peek and tell me what moves you would make to win that tie.

So we both have three Ars mids...same tired front three etc...What would you do ?

Hope you got rid of Ozil. Giroud or Coutinho would be the other transfer. Either way you have a good 1st sub.

Yes...Ozil out...he's gone. He has double Liverpool defence and I have one single Liverpool (he's unlikely to play Myhill ?)....so of all the options available then a Stoke goal gives me the biggest swing, if I'd gone down that route....So if I was just playing that H2H then I would have gone for Ozil > Adam...I wouldn't bother about what Wally or Bolasie was doing. A stoke goal is one of his weakest point.

Kun, Hazars and Kane > Benteke, Lukaku, Yaya -8

Chasing 22 point lead, well, now 30.

        Yikes.

He's no damned good to him if his priority is his ML...He has to pray for an Aguero blank. What else could he do ?

Got Kane at 5.2, he's 6.1 and falling tonight. My current sell price is 5.6. If he falls to 6.0 my sell price stays at 5.6, right?
