Newcastle can count themselves a little fortunate remain in the Premier League after their decision to part company with Alan Pardew midway through the previous campaign proved disastrous. Having won seven times and earned 26 points in their first 19 fixtures, the Magpies stuttered to safety under the guidance of John Carver, with three victories and 13 points accrued over the remainder of the season.

In this latest article for members, we assess Newcastle’s faltering campaign, running the rule over their squad in terms of goal threat and creativity ahead of the Steve McClaren era.

i wonder if LVG doesn't surprise us all this summer by not buying a replacement for RVP and falcoa and instead he will class fellani as a 3rd striker alongside Wilson and rooney. i reckon kane is the striker utd want and they will be willing to rely on rooney banging them in until we get him

I'm not entirely sure he will fit into our style, Champ. Would still be an interesting signings though.

I think he's a great signing. Top shelf goal machine with a great all round game. He's not some big lump, very talented. Have you seen him play with hazard, kdb etc? Awesome attitude too, and young.

Sorry man is it still on? I ran out of data and been real busy. I'll start again when I get more credit as I buy it monthly

Hmm, and tbh I haven't watched Belgium all that much. I just think he is kind of a one dimensional player, but that may be because I haven't seen Villa play any other way.

And all good, our previous match was won by me on time but no worries, just send me a request when things quieten down/you get credit 🙂

Bit naive to say that I reckon. In the earlier stages of last season, Villa were really struggling to even create chances, due to the negativity in Paul Lambert's setup. Since Sherwood came in, they tend to go for games a bit more.

Just having a look at some stats from the 14/15 champiosnhip season.

These players seem the way to go from the promoted teams:

    Nathan Redmond, Norwich
    Matt Richie, Bournemouth
    Troy Deeney, Watford
    Bournemouth defence
Maybe add a Watford defender in there too (quite a few us seem to go with two cheap defenders)

    Do you agree?

    Am i missing something out

True. Surely he will be cheap too. No need to captain him as he may not always start (in case they play Fellaini off Rooney).

      Howson, Norwich
      Johnson, Norwich
      Prödl, Watford

Bradley Johnson scored around 15 goals if I remember correctly. Howson is also productive and likely to be cheaper than Johnson. 🙂

6.0 I reckon. 5.5 at the very least. Worth noting he's also a card magnet.

Almen Abdi (Watford) is another good cheap mid. 5.5 max, and on free-kicks 😉

Of the promoted teams, the only players worth considering I would say:

      GK: Ruddy
      DF: Mings/Francis, any starting 4.0
      MF: Ritchie, Johnson
      ST: Deeney, Wilson

It really doesn't though. Rodgers wants him to stay apparently but won't guarantee game time which is fair enough when we have 5 centre mids.
I agree we need him though. Very handy player to have and none of the others bring the same game

we do have a lot of CMs but Allen is fairly useless and not good defensively. Hendo is more of a box-box and will be more attacking this season again as he is encouraged to go forward, Can is a great one for the future and still improving, good defensively but needs more time in the CM role,

          who is the 5th CM?

and if he won't guarantee him gametime then he needs to replace him with a like for like which I can't see happening as, as far as I am aware, we havnt been linked with any other DMs apart from that guy at Real with three Is at start of his name,

Defending is more than just tackling. Maintaining possession is also a form of defence. Hendo and Milner will be good for you guys as a double pivot and by the looks of things they will be the two deepest midfielders.

It was part of a review process which involved more than just Rodgers. TBF Liverpool had a bad season last year so perhaps changing some of the backroom staff might help

Gary McAllister doesn't have a great managerial track record.

Don't know anything about Pepjin Ljenberg and Sean O'Driscoll failed to get England U-19s into the Euros.

it did involve Rodgers and I am sure as part of his review he kind of shifted the blame to others and wanted more control of who he wants to work with. It may be good or bad, time will tell, but we need staff with experience and a good track record.

Some of those backroom guys were with him at Swansea. Seems a bit rough to drop his mates from his glory days at Swansea. I agree on the shifting of blame bit though, it is fair though to share the blame as they are a team afterall

yeah the blame should be shared but it was Rodgers who was at the review and I would not be surprised if he threw a lot of people under the bus as a way to keep his job.

the transfer window is still open but we still have not addressed the major problems of the team, well what I think are the major problems

                no director of football
lack of DMers, esp if Lucas goes
lack of goal scoring striker (who can stay fit and injury free!)

A DOF is an overrated idea imo, don't think its necessary especially when you have a panel instead which is the equivalent.

Lack of DM's - Rodgers tends not to use out and out DM's he is more into maintaining possession rather than winning it back.

Lack of a striker - This I do agree with, I'm guessing Benteke is the solution.

fair enough. don't agree about the DOF being overrated....

                    fair point on possession...

don't see Tekkers as the answer myself but who knows

Tekkers is your answer. Strong in he air, clinical, very young. I rate him better than any striker you got, including Studge tbh.

That was before my days of watching the Prem. I'll check out some vids to get a little firsthand familiarity with the lad. Should be some good highlights on the YouTube.

OK. So just watched a YouTube highlight reel of Le Tissier goals. Are you freaking kidding me!?! Dude was ridiculous. Pace, courage, finesse, and any other number of qualities you can think of. Some bonkers free kicks. I'm going back to find more vids of him. He seems to have been a special one. Too bad more modern players don't have a run at defenders like that. Almost reckless abandon. Just marvelous!

Interesting. One of his ex-teammates said he had no pace, but he would make people look stupid. From the highlights I've seen, he seems to have enough pace at the right times. Guess that's all that counts.

It seems like the right thing to do to let him go. He's been great but injuries and age is catching up with him.

Does indeed seem he's been stricken with the whole injuries/age thing. He did have some glimpses there last season. But, all things gotta end, or at least change, at some point.

Fellaini won't be in the first team next year.

As is any of Mata, ADM or Herrera could play at AM but I think United are going to sign a new striker anyway. Depending on who that is we might see Rooney at am.

A lot up in the air with United's attack.
