We continue our members articles looking back at last season with a review of West Brom’s displays under Tony Pulis. The Welshman took the helm after Alan Irvine was sacked – with the Baggies lying 16th in the Premier League on December 30 – and ultimately steered them to a 13th-placed finish, a full nine points clear of the drop zone. We’ll compare the attacking numbers from both managers’ spells in charge, and assess the similarities and differences in the statistics.

Irvine was a surprise appointment ahead of the 2014/15 season, having endured difficult spells in charge at Preston and Sheffield Wednesday. After managing a mere four wins from Albion’s first 19 matches, the Scot was relieved of his duties, with Pulis taking over on January 1, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal. Under the former Stoke and Crystal Palace boss, the Baggies secured seven victories from 18 matches, including wins against Man United and Chelsea in the final months of the season.

Thanks. Has anyone looked into player historical pre seaon form, as an indicator for early season performance? I'm thinking back to last season when Stoke City's Bojan pre season form was fantastic, was a key draft, but he then failed to live up to the promise in early season. One wonders how many other pre season promise players fail to (or actually live up to) the expectations.

Friends, some RMT thoughts would be much appreciated:

      Butland / Ruddy

      Azpilicueta / Koscielny / Huth / Williams / PVA

      Sterling / Fabregas / Ozil / Henderson / Ritchie

      Rooney / Sakho / Lukaku

Thinking - cash in on Lukaku's big GW1 before transferring to Pelle for GW2

      Dilemmas:

      (1) Is Ivanovic worth the additional 1M on Azpilicueta?

      (2) Is there a better 4.5M/5M option than Williams out there?

      (3) Is it mad to go Fabregas (and better overall balance) ahead of Hazard?

      (4) Is there a better 5th midfield/3rd forward rotation pair than Ritchie and Sakho (Deeney, for example)?

Really appreciate any advice or observations from the experts.

costa enjoys watching porn with friends - from costa's book

The chapter detailing his time at Spanish club Albacete reveals that Costa’s house became notorious for all the wild barbeque porn parties he would throw.

During one barbeque, host Costa chose to entertain his guests with a porn movie, which they were watching so loudly that the 80-year-old neighbour had to knock and complain.

Which wasn’t met very well by Costa, who was evidently enjoying the screening.

‘Vicente Ferre de la Rosa, an administrator at the club, on the complaints from one of Costa’s neighbours: “On one occasion they [Costa and friends] had a porn movie blaring out and the poor woman came down to tell them to turn the volume down. ‘What’s the matter? Don’t you like making love? Do you want to join and see" a wide-eyed Costa asked her sweetly.”

Not at all, if anything I think it says more about Ighalo is that he can score multiple goals from open play where as Deeney may rely on PKs.

I remember a couple years back he was loaned to Granada and he scored on Barcelona. Drove Pique nuts.

Also he scored 4 in January vs Blackpool. Four!

I don't care what league you are in, that is very difficult to do.

Getting carried away JK. Believe it or not, there are possibly around four players in that Bournemouth lineup that 'could' start in GW1. It's not just Francis and the rest reserves....

      Francis/Surman are starters
      One of Pugh/Kermorgant could start
      Distin is 50/50

Re WFC so far this pre season, I'd say the all but guaranteed starters next week would be..

Gomes Nyom Prodl Cathcart (as his main rival for his position is suspended) Capoue Behrami and Deeney.

There's a question mark over the seemingly safe Holebas.

The club's Italian medical team very rarely risk anybody not 100% recovered from even a minor injury, so there must be doubt over Abdi and Jurado.

Berghuis could well start next week and be a decent differential but we wait to see how he fares on his starting debut tonight.

Ighalo I'd put at 80% to start next week just off Deeney but it's a slight risk.

What happened to Angella? Seemed to be first choice last season right?

I have Prodl so just curious.

Apologize for all the question, but this team really intrigues me especially since they play an attacking 3-5-2 sometimes.

He's also an immobile beast. Not buying another striker will be our undoing this year. I hope lvg learns this quickly and puts memphis in the number 9 and Wayne in the number 10. You need pace in this league. Especially when you're also carrying mata.

I'll undoubtedly have Rooney, as those first three fixtures are great. I fully expect to be glad to sell him for Aguero after that though. His record wasn't that good in his prolonged run up front last season, and his assist potential completely disappeared (which is an underrated aspect of premium fantasy forward).

Siggy for assists. Andre will bag more goals. At marseille he played up front on the left hand side of a 433 and regularly found the net. he is a tough player and he will adapt well to the EPL. I'd probably go Siggy for the time being.

I agree the cost up front is more but over the long run you save money. I spent 900 pounds a couple years back on a top range custom model It still runs games far better than the current gen consoles and will continue to for the rest of the generation. Without lower cost of games (steam sale, thanks gaben) and no fee for online pay you really do save money

You're doing something wrong, i've had a PS4 since day one and this year i'm really having trouble finishing all the games because they're too many. Dying Light, The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Broken Age and Arkham Knight which came out only in the end of june. Now i'm waiting for Until Dawn and King's Quest just came out but i have to postpone it because otherwise i'm not going to be able to finish one of them. In the fall there's going to be a waterfall of amazing games. Scared.

    1. Hereby declared that all possible players have already been discussed.

Yes. I agree with Ziro's sentiment and the RMTs bore me to tears. But all of that stuff is what creates traffic on the site and traffic is the name of the game. 😕

Very true, unique visitors / clicks drive the ad dollars on the net.

Although, when feedback like this is coming from your subscription base that should also be a factor as well.

In the end, it would have been great to have implemented the RMT tab like they did last year.

A separate RMT section really helped allow OC & other FPL discussions not get lost in a sea of re-posted RMT's.

(Note: It wasn't prefect but, something was better than nothing)

Does anyone have any idea what the Swans midfield is likely to be?

The point has been made to me, that Ki and Shelvey might be competing for one spot. I thought they would both play; but if there's only one spot up for grabs, neither look very good options...and I'm seeing a lot of love for Ki.

Not sure on that. They could all play but it depends on formation as well. 4-2-3-1 would make sense as they have Siggy, Ayew, Montero, Dyer, Routledge for the attacking 3 positions.

Basically but completely depends on formation. With the midfield diamond formation then yes. In the more attacking 4-2-3-1 formation then we have Siggy, Cork, Ki and Shelvey all vying for 3 places. Siggy and Cork are nailed in their spots (although Shelvey could rotate a bit with Siggy) That leaves the final space for Ki + Shelvey to rotate depending on fixture. He'll get minutes every match but hey may be subbed on/off.

    Re Watford tonight..

Jurado has slight muscle injury and isn't being risked. Ditto Abdi, with a knee injury.

Will report back after kick off but it may be Layun is at left back tonight, with Anya in mid field. That was the Mexicans original position when he joined us. But Jokanovic then played him in midfield, where he wasn't a huge success.

Strange that Holebas, signed as the new left back, hadn't started the last two friendlies now.

Will be interesting to see Berghuis tonight..full debut for the Dutch winger.

        Holebas/Layun/Pudil - LBs

    @GB...

I get the AOA GW1 idea. It's a useless chip and we'll struggle to find a good time to use it. Probably GW38 for myself, or I may just let it go if no opportune moment presents itself.

But I reallllllllly think you'll regret the GW2 WC.

If you're set on AOA GW1 (I guess you are having thought of it), I'd sell your big 5th mid in GW2, save the money and upgrade a defender and get Aguero with those funds over the next few GWs. That'd just need a bit of GW1 squad tweaking. A compromise that saves the WC.

The question I'd ask is... If you had 24 hours to build a team after FPL opening, would you ever even think of this? Or is it just that you've thought of every possible option and this seems best because it's the last option you've come up with? 😛

It could work, but GW2 WC? 😕
