After a disappointing Gameweek for many, we move onwards and hopefully upwards in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game. As always, we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends, the watchlist and also take a look at the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 1 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Man United vs TottenhamChris Smalling
Bournemouth vs Aston VillaRudy Gestede
Everton vs WatfordArouna Kone
Leicester vs SunderlandRiyad Mahrez
Norwich vs Crystal PalaceYohan Cabaye
Chelsea vs SwanseaAndre Ayew
Arsenal vs West HamWinston Reid
Newcastle vs SouthamptonGeorginio Wijnaldum
Stoke vs LiverpoolPhilippe Coutinho
West Brom vs Man CityDavid Silva

Two defenders, six midfielders and two forwards claimed the awards on the opening weekend. As highlighted in our MoTM article in pre-season, attacking midfielders reigned supreme and the trend will surely continue. Four debutants were amongst them and are well worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks.

Gameweek 1 Bonus Points

The only goalkeeper to pick up bonus this week was West Ham’s Adrian, who racked up six saves to go with his clean sheet and earn a tidy nine points to kick off the campaign.

In defence, 11 players grabbed bonus, eight for tackles and three for passes completed. Chris Smalling looks primed to reel in bonus over the season if he can stay fit and continue at centre-back for Man United – the former Fulham man usually picks up passing but after earning tackles last week in a combative display, he could lead the bonus stats for weeks to come.

In midfield there were 14 beneficiaries in total: seven for tackling and seven for passes. The usual centre-midfielders dominated here with bonus king Morgan Schneiderlin picking up tackle points. Fitness allowing, he would be my tip to top the bonus charts overall.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
CourtoisChelsea6.03.1%
ForsterSouthampton5.12.2%
BainesEverton7.32.1%
BertrandSouthampton6.51.9%
AgueroMan City10.01.7%

Injuries and suspension account for the first four on this list, though the decision to transfer Sergio Aguero out is a big surprise and can only be down to the fact that he started as a sub in City’s trip to West Brom.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
HartMan City5.82.5%
GomezLiverpool4.72.2%
MahrezLeicester6.02.1%
OxfordWest Ham4.12.1%
ReidWest Ham5.62%

With Thibaut Courtois and Fraser Forster subject to an early exodus, Joe Hart is picking up plenty of new owners. Joe Gomez and Reece Oxford have been snapped up as budget enablers, whilst Riyad Mahrez’ two-goal haul against Sunderland has earned him a bandwagon. Faith in the West Ham defence is clearly on the rise – with the fixtures in their favour, skipper Winston Reid also makes it into our top five.

Top Five Captains Picked

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

BudgetMid-PricePremium
Defender Simon Francis, 4.8m, 1.1%Cedric Soares, 5.9m, 2.5%Chris Smalling, 6.9m, 4.7%
MidfielderMarc Albrighton, 5.1m, 1.5%Andre Ayew, 6.5m, 4.0%Mesut Ozil, 8.4m, 3.1%
Forward Jamie Vardy, 7.3m, 5.2%Diafra Sakho, 7.7m, 2.3%Graziano Pelle, 8.1m, 9.2%

Last week, Cedric Soares, Marc Albrighton, Jeremain Lens, Jamie Vardy and Graziano Pelle all came good for us. This time out, we shuffle our targets slightly to accommodate new fixtures.

Notes
All that planning and then possibly the worst start in my history but I’m sure it was the same for many. Some last-minute tweaks meant I decided against going with Almen Abdi, which saw me remove nine-point Jordan Amavi for Russell Martin and then opted for Max Gradel in midfield – although he only started from the bench, I have faith he can be a good option in the coming weeks after an impressive goal scoring record in the French League.

Concerns are already cropping up about Patrick van Aanholt after shipping four goals but I’ll stick by him for Sunderland’s good fixtures, with Amavi, Joe Gomez, Simon Francis and various Watford options catching my eye. It might be best to wait until the transfer window has shut to re-assess our options. Theo Walcott’s sub role was part expected and I did say I would go for Santi Cazorla for security but the Spaniard ended up playing on the wing and only just about scraped passing bonus. I’ll be monitoring the Gunners midfield situation in the coming weeks but for now, Walcott will stay in place. Dimitri Payet looks to be my best decision so far. I had suggested in previous articles he looked great value at just 6.2m and hopefully he can continue to provide the points across West Ham’s kind schedule.

Captain Plan
I’ll be moving my armband to Harry Kane before Thursday’s midnight deadline in order to back him for Spurs’ home clash with Stoke. I’ll ignore Sunday’s matches and then use my captain switch to skipper Christian Benteke for Monday night football as he squares up against Bournemouth. After this, he will be transferred out but I’ll leave the details for next week.

Things are hotting up on price changes according to FFFix. Predicted to change today/tomorrow:

Risers - Coutinho, Oxford, Kompany, Adrian

Fallers - Moreno, Ings, Origi, Falcao, Ki, Baines, Mitrovic, Walcott, Courtois, Naismith, Jones, Atsu amongst others

There's a lot of Walcott owners still in denial. A 0.1 drop is effectively the same as a 0.5 drop at this time of the season.

          Just stop repeating*.

Kind of undermines my point, but it's still valid.

0.1 is 0.1. It is not 0.5, especially when it's Walcott because there are so few 9.0 players and so many 8.5.

Please tell me how this is correct?

            Walcott @ 8.9 > Yaya @ 8.5 = 0.4 left over. I still have the 0.4. The 0.4. has not been taken away.

It's not worth 0.5, it's a foolish way of wording it. If you've used Walcott @ 9.0 in future planning then it's not worth 0.5 if he drops, it just means you have to act before his price changes.

If you wanted to bring in Mahrez for Ki for example, you can still do this after Walcott's price drop.

It won't matter in 2/3 weeks anyway if he drops. At this point you can't do much more with 0.4m than you can do with 0.1m because every player's price is x.5m or x.0m. It's still only a 0.1m drop but you're kind of hamstrung because you can't do anything with the extra 0.4m if you sell him.

Walcott is basically worth 8.5m if he drops because the prices all end in 5 or 0 at this point. In a few weeks it won't matter that he's dropped.

Not great I think. They have Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd in their next 6 and a lot of owners will have downgrading Walcott as part of their Aguero plans. Then there's the Sanchez factor.

Personally i'm fed up trying to play guessing games with Wenger and will be going without an Arsenal attacker until I can afford Sanchez.

      http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Team-news/2015/August/Sergio-Aguero-in-a-race-to-be-fit-to-start-Chelsea-Premier-League-clash/1439475626

Technically three weeks behind the majority of the squad in terms of pre-season training, Kun came on as a substitute in Monday’s opener at West Brom and the visit of Jose Mourinho’s men could come too soon for last season’s top scorer to start.

“Whether I start or not remains to be seen,” said Sergio. “I’m trying to get there and be in top condition, but arriving for pre-season later having taken part in the Copa America with Argentina means I need some additional time.

“With the whole season in mind, what matters the most is that I get in top form and don’t take any risks.”

A lot of people with Cedric in their teams, with last GW's performance casting doubt on him losing his place and Koeman clearly stating he was not happy with first half perfomance (after which Cedric was subbed off). What do you reckon, will he keep his place for the weekend?

Would be weird for him to be benched after one game where he got a lovely assist. Not exactly great man management to drop him and destroy his confidence from the get go.

Not sure, I think if Sanchez starts (Wenger said he's fit) I think hands down a better shout than Walcott. Rooney/United were very poor last week, barely a shot worth talking about. Money also allows Aguero from Kane next week, which is half the reason for Rooney->Defoe.

Posted this on the other page and hoping for a few more responses! On WC so a really tough call to make:

    Fabianski - McCarthy
    Jenko - Cedric - Coates - Gomez - Richards)
    Hazard - Alexis - Chadli - Mahrez - Wanyama
    Aguero - Pelle - Sakho

    OR

    Fabianski - McCarthy
    Jenko - Cedric - Coates - Gomez - Richards)
    Alexis - Mané - Chadli - Payet/Ayew - Mahrez
    Aguero - Benteke - Sakho

Essentially, considering it's a WC team, should Hazard be there or not?

I like the look of A.
Haven't you considered Gomis instead of Pelle and then Mane for Chadli?
      I don't really like Chadli.
I would not have Coates. Gomez is also a risk long term.
With A, you can do Haz to Silva if Haz don't fire

      1. How Mina You
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 8 months ago

Chadli has some cracking fixtures coming up, as do Southampton, which is why Pelle is probably the best route for me. I'm happy to take the risk on Gomez for now, and if it doesn't pay off, can always bring Huth in further down the line. For some reason, I don't really fancy Gomis that much, unless you can convine me otherwise!

        1. Yome
          • 14 Years
          10 years, 8 months ago

Chadli is always a bit of a rotation risk.
Swansea are looking great attacking wise with Ayew and Montero. They will feed Gomis too and Siggy as well behind.
I am about to trigger the WC and looking at a Aguero, Pelle, Sakho, Haz, Sanchez, Mane, Mahrez, Westwood.
          Mahrez and Westwood rotate well

          1. How Mina You
            • 11 Years

For now though, Chadli seems nailed on. Wish it was possible to fit both Chadli and Mané with the Big 3 but it's just not possible. I agree with your assessment of Swansea, which is why it's a tough call between Ayew/Chadli/Payet/Mané. Argh!!!

Are there any Hot Topics or articles on the merits/non merits of team value?

Doesn't he have a policy of never letting players' price drop in his team (yes he does).

If he sticks to his policy he will be selling tonight - but, wait, he has also criticised people selling Walcott this week! Lose lose situation!

Pick players that score and their price goes up 🙂

Walcott scored 3 goals in GW38 and he's going down in price?

tbh wads there to discuss about team value? just dont go extreme on trying to save that 0.1m or sacrificing points for value

Many who spent all their money, myself included, basically threw themselves into mid season as far as the limits that 0 itb place on transfer flexibility.

The difference is that in mid season, you are not chasing last week's points so much as making decisions with more information like real form and playing time security that you have a month or more into the season.

I am keeping Walcott but I get why people are shipping him, though I can't yet see why they are going after so many new players.

    Team is

    Ruddy Butland
    Francis Azpi Mert Huth Cedric
    Walcott Hazard Anya Mane Chadli
    Benteke Rooney Wilson

Had a mediocre start (29) and have 1.0 ITB. My options are:

    A. Walcott to someone else, possibly Silva or Couthino
    B. Wilson to Sakho
    C. Save transfer, risk another crap week and sort it out with 2 FTs if needs be.

A is an emotional transfer and B a knee-jerk... Do C for now and reconsider later
