As mentioned previously, we’re taking a new approach to the weekly games this season. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

On Tuesday evening, we rolled out our Weekly Shop article, giving you a fair idea of the main targets for my teams this weekend. In addition to the names mentioned, I’m also mulling over Bafetimbi Gomis and Diafra Sakho as alternative forwards, whilst midfield Dusan Tadic, Nacer Chadli and James Milner also have favourable home matches and could yet force their way into my plans.

There are four time frames available this week in PlayON – these are Weekly, Saturday and Sunday Daily games and also the Monday night match. The main weekly competition – that includes all ten matches – has a £1000 guaranteed pot. The daily Saturday games (that do not include the early kick-off between Southampton and Everton), allow teams to be entered up to 3pm. In addition, there are two fixtures in the Sunday timeframe and teams can also be entered for the single match on Monday evening.

The Bottom Line

I had a slow start in the challenge to increase my £100 pot in PlayON last week. One of the tenets of Fantasy Football is that not every week can be a good week, however – mistakes are a chance to learn, improve and attempt other strategies, so onwards and upwards.

Last week’s disappointment left me ruing my decision to enter the £5.50 pots on both Saturday and Sunday. This £11 was 64.7% of the opening week’s stake, which is too much to be risking so early on in the challenge on just two entries. My new approach, a bit less gung-ho, will be to enter the free games and lower-priced entry games attempting to build the pot back up and, if successful, re-evaluate the competitions with higher entries later down the line.

Gameweek 1 Stake – £17
Winnings – £3.15
Current Pot – £86.15 (-£13.85)

This Week’s Stake

Here I run through which contests I’ll be entering and the associated fees. This is subject to change – I may well enter more games but I will update the situation if that happens in the bottom line next time we cover PlayON.

Weekly – There is another £100 free entry game allowing five entries. With 1266 entries last week, I reckon these five teams are an ideal opportunity to go with differentials and left-field punts. Like last week, I’ve entered two more balanced teams into the £100 guaranteed pot for a £1.10 fee. I entered 10 teams into 25p games last week but I’m reining in my spending again and only going with five this time around. There’s also a Fantasy Football Scout league for the community to enter, so I’ve also put a team in there for £1.10.

Daily – For the Saturday and Sunday games rather than the £5.50 contests, I’ve entered two £1 challenges. There’s also a free entry game on Sunday, so five entries go into that for the £25 pot.

Match – Five entries into the £25 free pot game covers the Monday night match between Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Total Stake: £6.85

As a PlayON Pro, it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes. These games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

If you’ve finished tinkering with your Fantasy Premier League team, why not enter the £100 free PlayON game this week.

I'm giving Walcott at least one more week, but should I do the same for Depay? I think both Ayew and Payet will do well this week, and in weeks to come, but don't want to rush Depay out after just 1 game. Thoughts?

My thoughts on Wally and his inevitable price drop.

    Thought numero uno

Last season Hazard had a quite poor start and his price dropped to 9.9 and it didn't prompt me to lose Hazard, Hazard went on banging and the rest is history.

    Thought numero dos

If you are worrying about the money as you are planning to sell Wally to fund Kun, I agree that 0.4 would burn a hole in your pocket, however, It depends on which pool of players you are going to get instead of Walcott. In my team, ideally I would sell Walcott and Rooney and get Aguero and 6.5 that would leave me with 0.0 ITB which is a solid plan but the pool of players in the 6.5 region is slim and no standouts except for Cabaye and Barkely (fixtures are hideous though) so I'd go normally for the 5.5-6.0 spectrum where a lot of players has the points potential stil not proven as in the 6.5 range.

Valid point but if you got a chance and made the best of it you play no matter who is standing on the line waiting for their turn. Giroud blew it. Walcott has to build a case if he played next match.

Your first point is nonsense because of how different players they are, but I completely agree with your second. Those saying losing 0.1 equates to losing 0.5 at this stage of the season are the same that spend all of their money for the sake of it rather than going for the best player at the time.

Kane v Stoke, Mane v Everton or Ayew v Newcastle.

I think its between Kane and Mane, looking like a bit of a toss up, was on Kane, now not so sure.

    Thinking of taking a hit:
Ozil and Hazard -> Sanchez and Fabregas.

Explanation: Ozil and Haz seemed to struggle last GW. Oscar is injured so hopefully Fab will move into the hole behind Diego and also I can see Sanchez starting strong.

Probably knee jerked WC, but I'm excited to roll with this team now.

    Adrian
    Kompany/Targett/Gomez
    Payet/ Mane (vc) / Coutinho/ Cabaye
    Gomis / Benteke (c) / Rooney

    Butland/Azpi/Oxford/Mahrez

4.5mil in the bank for a plethora of options after we get more info next week...can upgrade a forward to Aguero or a midfielder to Hazard or Alexis, or just save transfers until needed.

    Any thoughts?

I would take him out of your team; I honestly can´t see him getting more than 25 minutes.

He literally violates (outside of pace) all of those elementary things on the pitch that makes a manager not want to play him.

Arsenal fans, with the ox's impressive form so far this season what are the chances it is Ramsey and.not ox that makes way for sanchez? Alternatively cazz is dropped and ramsay moves into pivot?

I'm not an Arsenal fan, but I have seen a few Arsenal fans saying they seem to think Ramsey should, and may, be dropped.

    2. Manamongst
      • 15 Years
      10 years, 4 months ago

Ramsey will be dropped in my humble opinion:

      1. He´s due; he may be due for a break.

      2. He is proving a poor partner with Coquelin, slightly undisciplined as far as leaving Coquelin to make passes he shouldn´t be/have to be making. He has been setting an impatient tempo with excessive 4th MF runs.

3 Santi is proving 110% more effective partnering with Coq and more importantly feeding our #10.

That leaves Sanchez out wide with Ox, Ozil at the 10 and Santi and Coquelin partnered.

Ox dropped for who...Theo...I would flip as a fan..and I actually like Theo...but come on his workrate is atrocious. It will stick out even more as the other players up their rate to Sanchez´s.

I just can´t see Wenger rewarding him for essentially has been a whole lot of nothing.

Fiso has him over 100% and due a price rise.
