Our new midweek regular is rolled out once again this evening as we give you a heads-up on our Scout Picks thinking for the Gameweek ahead. This list of players also includes some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation as the days progress.

For Gameweek 4, here’s who is currently in contention…

Goalkeepers

Jack Butland (4.5) searches for his first clean sheet of the campaign as Stoke City host a West Bromwich Albion outfit that failed to register a single shot on target in their previous road tie. Brad Guzan (4.5), meanwhile, will fancy his chances of carding a shut-out when Sunderland pay a visit, given that only Newcastle United have notched fewer shots inside the box (12) than the Wearsiders (14).

Defenders

Aleksandar Kolarov’s (5.7) attacking threat has been unparalleled among defenders this term, with the Serbian left-back ranking top for key passes (seven), crosses (seven) and attempts (five). His rampaging runs are more than capable of harvesting back-to-back goals as the Sky Blues attempt to keep their flawless record intact at home to Watford.

Simon Francis (4.5) looks the pick of Bournemouth’s backline as they gear up for a home match-up against Leicester City. Only Kolarov and Kyle Naughton (both seven) tallied more key passes than the Nottingham-born right-back over the first three Gameweeks, illustrating his assist potential.

Cedric Soares’ (5.0) forays forward have already produced one assist this term and look certain to engender further attacking returns, considering that he’s positioned second for attempts (four) and key passes (six) among defenders. Furthermore, a head-to-head against Norwich City at St Mary’s affords the Saints a good chance of securing consecutive shut-outs. Ronald Koeman’s decision to roll out a 3-4-1-2 at Watford last weekend also plays a part in our thinking here, after Soares was fielded as a right wing-back in the goalless draw at Vicarage Road.

In the wake of Liverpool’s three clean sheets on the trot, Martin Skrtel (5.5) could be a profitable pick-up for their home clash against West Ham United. Only Sunderland (35) have conceded more shots inside the box (32) than the Hammers, suggesting that Skrtel’s set-piece threat could become a factor. Joe Gomez misses out for now, then, but we may turn to the 4.7 priced asset should we need the Scout Pick funds on Friday.

Micah Richards (4.6) offers a budget route into the Villains’ defence for the Black Cats tie. The fact that they restricted Manchester United to just five shots inside the box at Villa Park bodes well for this encounter.

Midfielders

Alexis Sanchez (11.0) struck the upright against Liverpool and boasts three more shots inside the box (12) than any other midfielder, highlighting his potent goal threat ahead of a trip to Newcastle. The slightly pricier Eden Hazard (11.5) got off the mark with an assist against the Baggies and should be afforded the space to exert his influence at home to Alan Pardew’s attacking Crystal Palace outfit. Elsewhere in the Blues camp, Pedro (9.5) has emerged as an intriguing alternative to the marquee Belgian, having bagged a goal and an assist on his debut.

Riyad Mahrez (5.9) is a no-brainer in light of his four goals in three outings, as the unbeaten Foxes take on Bournemouth in their own back-yard. As for the Cherries’ midfield interest, Matt Ritchie (5.9) has threatened to net with nine attempts so far this campaign.

In the 7.0 bracket, Xherdan Shaqiri and Nacer Chadli picked up assists last time out and enjoy home match-ups against West Brom and Everton respectively.

David Silva (10.0) is pitched a lot steeper but has already showcased his supreme playmaking skills this season, notching three assists in as many appearances. Fellow midfield magician Philippe Coutinho (8.1) was thwarted only by Petr Cech’s excellence at the Emirates and has mustered more attempts (15) than any player this season.

Forwards

Despite only being handed a cameo in Gameweek 1, Sergio Aguero (13.2) tops the forwards leaderboard for shots on target (seven), emphasising his potential to deliver explosive returns against the Hornets. Diego Costa (11.0) also stands out as a captaincy candidate in the Eagles clash, having amassed ten points against the Baggies courtesy of a goal and an assist.

Casting an eye over the mid-priced forwards, Christian Benteke (8.5) will be licking his lips after witnessing the Cherries rattle four past the Irons’ defence in Gameweek 3. Likewise, Olivier Giroud (9.0) – who’s fashioned more attempts inside the box (12) than any forward – is pitted against the Magpies’ inconsistent rearguard.

Poring over the cheaper forwards, hat-trick hero Callum Wilson (5.5) broke his duck in emphatic style and has a great opportunity to sustain that momentum against a Foxes side that’s yet to record a clean sheet. Sitting at just 4.2% ownership, Mame Biram Diouf (6.5) endeavours to score for three matches running as the Potters lock horns with West Brom.

Community Champion

For the third Gameweek in a row, the Community Champion beat the Scout Picks. Gameweek 3’s champion Patch scored 60 points, three more than the Scouts.

The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season. Gameweek 1 Champion Daniel Levy continues to lead the way with a 12-point advantage.

The Scouts face another tough opponent in Gameweek 4 after Limpar was selected to represent the community through this week’s lottery. This is his sixth season as a Fantasy Premier League manager and already he has one top 1,000 finish under his belt.

    Hey there what's up y'all.

This gw is looking good for me but I would like some opinions on a 2 switches.

Right now I'm playing: Darmian / Cabaye

On the bench I have Redmond / Naughton waiting...

    Any switches?

    Cheers

Hi, I'm thinking about dropping either Hazard or Depay for either Yaya Toure, David Silva or Pedro. I am under the cap to cover (for example) transferring Depay for Yaya.

    Any thoughts?

Palace are playing just as well as Chelsea are and have 2 more points... Just reminding everyone 🙂 I hope Pedro proves the difference though. Don't see why he would rack up points.

    Butland (McCarthy)
Clyne - Kompany - Targett - Richards (Mertesacker)
Hazard - Silva - Albrighton (Ayew - Westwood)
    Aguero(c) - Diouf - Pelle

Norwich is not a poor side and has been scoring all the way.
If Sherwood opt to go attack, they'll surely bag some goals.
        I'm benching Richards anyway.

How opposite are our needs? I have Sanchez and I am desperate for a Chelsea cover this contemplating whether to keep Sanchez or not.. I guess the answer to both of our's dilemmas is same. I keep Sanchez, you keep Hazard. Save a transfer. Especially coz both have decent fixtures next week at least!

I wouldn't say so. Chelsea play Everton and Arsenal while Arsenal play Chelsea and Manchester United in the next 5 gws. Rest of the fixtures are more or less of equal difficulty. They are at par.

Hey guys, I have planned up until Int break with my players.. Unfortunately as per most of us, GW1&2 were pretty average! I however, kept faith in my squad (with one change per week as planned) dropped Fabregas (playing too deep and looking off the pace) and Milner for Payet and Toure

GW3 I got semi rewarded with 69 points (played TC on Depay which was a waste now, really thought he would against Newcastle and after ECL hit the EPL with storm.....) I am happy Wilson has got me some points now as well!

My question is: (I am not playing my WC, I will see after the INT break.. I do want to make 6 changes now but would prefer to keep it for after INT break, just in case a few injuries occur)

    1) Ox for Mahrez
    2) Mane for Mahrez

    Spend 4 points and...

    1) Ox for Mahrez and Mane for Ayew/Coutinho
    2) Ox for Mahrez and Rooney for Costa

I would prefer to not spend any points, spent over 34 last year and this year I am playing it properly, really want to do well and finish in the top 100 000

This is my current team as it stands

    Steklenburg/Butland
    Clyne/Mertesacker/Huth/Alderweireld/Kolarov
    Mane/Ox/Payet/Depay/Yaya
    Rooney/Kane/Wilson

    With 0.4m ITB

I want to put Ayew in but he is up against Utd and if I play my WC which I am 85% sure I will after the break (also depending on how my players perform this weekend)

Would appreciate a good few responses please and or alternative suggestions..

If you are going to play WC after Int' break, then play it during and catch the price rises. This may be important and give you a little more flexibility in your picks.

At the moment just Mane for Mahrez would be my choice.

Thanks bud, would you mind elaborating a little further on the price rises and when i should do them? I am fairly new to the ins and outs of FF but have been playing "socially" for years! Still don't know what a differential is 😛

Is Mane confirmed out? Should I not switch him for Coutinho instead?
        Thanks

Downgrade Mane and upgrade Rooney for a hit. A hit at this point can be a bargain given that around 34 gws are ahead of us and our transfers can more than make up for it. Rooney may finally score but I would bet Aguero/Costa to have a better chances of scoring next week. Also if you are planning to wildcard after the next gw you can take the punt on Costa now and bring in Aguero after the gw4 too. So I would suggest Mane to Mahrez and Rooney to Costa/Aguero.

All being well with price rise\falls. I would expect to have the below team in the coming weeks -

Can I get a rating out of 10 for this??

    Butland
    Francis\Williams\Gomez
    Coutinho\Silva\Pedro\Sanchez\Mahrez
    Aguero\Gomis

    Mccarthy\Watmore\Richards\Targett

This is doing my swede in. Options are:

    a. Rooney > Aguero + 4pt hit
    b. Rooney > any other striker (only 12.8m after Rooney sale)

Is Aguero essential for this weekend? I could put in Costa for free but it seems even God will have Aguero capt this GW.

    I have Silva + Kolorov.

Get aguero. Everyone will captain him and the downside risk of getting left behind if he goes crazy is large. Worth the -4 in my opinion as he will be needed eventually anyway. What would be your other transfer to afford Aguero ?

He's one of those where you've got that niggling feeling that as soon as you get rid he'll bag 15 points , plus if Rooney continues in slow fat lump mode, will LVG stick him up top

Crying out for help as this is my first season! My current team:

    Cech // Mertesacker - Ward - Darmian // Sterling - Depay - Hazard - Ritchie // Gomis - Benteke - Rooney (+ some insignificant subs).

Do I need to use the wildcard right away, start all over and get the current usual suspects: Aguero, Silva, Kolorov, Mahrez, Wilson etc??

In short, I have no idea when it is sensible to use the WC!! Pls help my dear friends.

I'd take out Merts, Ward, Depay, Ritchie and Rooney and find a way to get Aguero, Silva, Kolo in your team.

You'll have another Wildcard in Jan. Best to use this one at the end of the transfer window I find.

Massive question - expecting a split answer...

    Sterling and Benteke
    or
    Silva and Gomis?

I would go for Silva and Gomis, but I think Benteke has done a bad job first 3 GW. Should have been disallowed the goal vs B.mouth, and Sterling has yet to preform as FPL quality imo.

    I can't decide wheater to go for a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3
MID: Mahrez- A.Sanchez- Chadli - Silva - Westwood (AV)
    FWD: Aguero and Diouf
    or
MID: Mahrez- A.Sanchez- Chadli - Silva
    FWD: Aguero, Diouf and Gomis

    Any comments?

Anyone know why Mings is not playing? They payed £8 million for him, which is a hell of alot by their standards.

Romero if you're playing Hart every week, Ward and Ivanovic (replace with Azpi), Depay and Kone

You'll be praying that Aguero blanks and Mahrez scores so you lead frog everyone with Captain Kun. Do you have that much faith in Mahrez scoring against Bournemouth?

    Guys,

What do you think of this team:

    Courtois
    Kolarov – Sagna – Azpi – Shaw
    Hazard – Mahrez – Mata – Yaya
    Benteke – Wilson

    Subs: Romero, Gomis, Gomez, Redmond

Great team. I'd bench Wilson though for Gomez or Gomis

      Captain Yaya I take it?

Yeah, probably, didn't really decide on it. You really have no faith in Wilson continuing his run?

2 blanks then a big score. Looks like a fluke to me

      Benching nightmares every week!

No Sanchez, Kun and Silva would worry me

I'm wildcarding after a terrible start.

    My new team is:

    Ruddy - Guzan
    Shaw - Kolarov - Gomez - Huth - Francis
    Depay - Coutinho - Pedro - Özil - Mahrez
    Diouf - Agüero - Wilson

My concern is that I have to bench too good players so any suggestions on upgrades?
I'm thinking of upgrading either Diouf or Wilson to Benteke or Lukaku and downgrading someone from midfield.

Downgrade Depay and Coutinho for Silva + 5x mid and play Silva.
Replace Shaw with Azpili. United don't have favorable fixtures and will start leaking goals.
Play your front 3 as is.

Which is better for the next 3 gameweeks?

    Diouf or Gomis?

Tough one. Diouf has better fixtures but Gomis arguably the better player. Diouf being that bit cheaper probably edges it.

      I have both with Kun

Thanks. Ill stick it out with Diouf for one more week and get Gomis in with a FT if he scores against United.
