We move into Gameweek 4 in the Sky Sports game this evening before the first international break of the season is thrust upon us. As always, we take a look at the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 3 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Man United vs NewcastleTim Krul
Crystal Palace vs Aston VillaScott Dann
Leicester vs TottenhamRiyad Mahrez
Norwich vs StokeJack Butland
Sunderland vs SwanseaCostel Pantilimon
West Ham vs BournemouthCallum Wilson
West Brom vs ChelseaPedro
Everton vs Man CityDavid Silva
Watford vs SouthamptonJose Fonte
Arsenal vs LiverpoolPetr Cech

Considering goalkeepers only collected 8% of the overall MoTM awards last season, it’s fair to say this week was an anomaly, with four shot stoppers picking up the gong. Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez earned his third MoTM in as many matches and is the highest scoring player overall with 41 points – those who have gone without will be playing catch up already. David Silva picked up his second award and looks set to continue to rake them in as his sensational form continues.

Gameweek 3 Bonus Points

Eight goalkeepers picked up bonus this week – Petr Cech and Tim Krul were the top scorers with a clean sheet, MoTM and saves bonus to earn an impressive 14 points.

In defence, nine players grabbed bonus – eight for tackles and one for passes completed. Jan Vertonghen picked up tackling bonus but will count himself unlucky after missing out on passing bonus by just one completed pass.

In midfield there were 18 beneficiaries in total: seven for tackling and 12 for passes. Francis Coquelin was the only player to manage both and sits in the top five for bonus alongside Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Cesc Fabregas and Idrissa Gueye.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RooneyMan United9.63.5%
JenkinsonWest Ham52.9%
BolasieCrystal Palace6.92.6%
KaneTottenham9.31.9%
EriksenTottenham7.71.8%

Fixtures and form are against Wayne Rooney although the 3.5% that have transferred him out will be getting twitchy following his midweek hat-trick. Carl Jenkinson’s red card at the weekend means he will miss the Hammers trip to Anfield and Palace’s Yannick Bolasie missed out for personal reasons. Harry Kane has failed to live up to last season’s hype so far, whilst team-mate Christian Eriksen is still sidelined with a knee injury.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
MahrezLeicester65.8%
GomezLiverpool4.75.5%
AgueroMan City103.5%
KompanyMan City7.53.3%
GomisSwansea7.73%

Five players in great form make up the five most transferred in, as you would expect. Riyad Mahrez and Joe Gomez are the top two priorities as they continue to out-perform their price tags. Man City due Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany look great choices with the fixtures ahead and Bafetimbi Gomis is the joint third highest scoring forward in the game currently.

Top Five Captains Picked

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes

A goal for Russell Martin, clean sheet for Craig Cathcart, assist for Eden Hazard, MoTM for David Silva and two assists for Max Gradel made up my mediocre Gameweek. Captain fails have been the main reason for my lack of points so far, so hopefully I can start to catch some hauls in the coming weeks.

The lack of Riyad Mahrez has also been detrimental and it’s becoming apparent it needs to be addressed, probably starting with this coming week, although both Gradel and Mane have a decent fixture so begrudgingly Dimitri Payet may have to be the man to make way. Joe Gomez was one of my heavily-considered options pre-season and continues to rack up points in a solid Liverpool back-line. Seemingly confirmed as nailed-on, given his performances, he looks a no brainer at 4.7m and he also is a top priority to squeeze in.

Captain Plan

It’s fairly straight forward this week, with Sergio Aguero my skipper for his home clash against Watford, then a swap to Sadio Mane (providing he’s fit) for Southampton’s tie against Norwich.

With a blank week up next due to international fixtures, it’s important to remember you get a free captain swap in order to prepare for Gameweek 6.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and are currently second in the Private League rankings. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch new host Max Rushden and Paul Merson at 18:00 SkySports One HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football, quizzing former Chelsea player Andy Townsend and asking him for his #One2Eleven.

I say diouf cos i have more faith in stoke mids supplying their striker. However it is a very close call and either would be a fime choice. I have 1 ft and thought about switching to wilson to fun payet to coutinho but will be saving it in the end.

Come to a draft that looks decent. Some thoughts?

    Romero / McCarthy
    Kolarov / Gomez / Dawson / Francis / Targett
    Silva / Sanchez / Ozil / Chadli / Milner
    Aguero / Wilson / Jerome

    Thoughts? I'd be playing a 3-5-2 with Wilson/Jerome rotating on form/fixtures.

I'd like Pedro over Ozil (for variety) but not sure where to free up the funds. Don't want to downgrade Aguero/Silva/Sanchez but am open to other ideas.

Lastly, wondering if Romero is worth it considering the fixtures aren't great? Alternatives?

    1. CHANCING PUNT
      • 13 Years

      Wouldn't go with Romero personally.

Fully expect United to sign a de Gea replacement in the next few days.

He might battle it out with him and start as he's playing well, but long term its a risk.

        Thanks man!

Who would you recommend? Butland seems prime on fixtures but Stoke hasn't been the tighest defence so far!

If I go with someone at 4.5m, that also gives me 0.6m ITB - anything I can do with it?

        1. CHANCING PUNT
          • 13 Years
          10 years, 7 months ago

I've got Butland at the minute.

Upgrade Jerome possibly? Perhaps downgrade Milner in order to generate even more funds for that position.

          1. WHY ALWAYS MESUT?
            • 12 Years
            10 years, 7 months ago

Basically, I don't see much value in cheap / mid tier forwards personally.

I could upgrade Jerome to Defoe but that doesn't help much.

For me, Milner is a key player in Liverpool, showed attacking potential last season / pre season and will be heavily involved with Henderson. Liverpool is also a top 6 team with good fixtures. Even if I downgrade, I could at best afford Diouf. I'd rather Milner over Diouf, wouldn't you?

            1. CHANCING PUNT
              • 13 Years
              10 years, 7 months ago

Nah, I'd rather Diouf but up to you of course.

He's been sitting in a bit but suppose that's because they've been away at Stoke and then Arsenal without Henderson. More home fixtures on the horizon, may well start getting assists/goals.

                10 years, 7 months ago

Yeah, don't forget set pieces etc etc. Clean Sheet points also make a minor contribution long run.

Plus, Diouf scored 11 goals all season last season. Not sure I expect him to do a lot more than that - though obv Shaqiri may help.

Alternatively, I'm 0.4 away from Ozil to Pedro.

looks pretty interesting with some differentials (Milner, Ozil). you could however do something like Milner > Ritchie and Ozil > Pedro which I think looks loads better.

2nd draft of my Wildcard team. Thoughts on this?

    Butland - Hennessey
    Kolarov - Gomez - Cedric - Richards - Prodl
    Sanchez - Yaya - Hazard - Mahrez - Anya
    Wilson - Diouf - Aguero

Happy this week but going forward maybe need some players that rotate properly as most of that lot are home this week, therefore away next GW and in theory less likely to score points.

    1. WHY ALWAYS MESUT?
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 7 months ago

I quite like it. Think Prodl is a better pick than say Francis?

The one "issue" I see is that you'll be rotating potentially 4 attacking players (Mahrez, Anya, Wilson, Diouf - assuming Mahrez does not keep this up). Might be too much?

I'd consider Hazard -> Pedro and upgrades elsewhere.

      1. CHANCING PUNT
        • 13 Years
        10 years, 7 months ago

Francis has home fixtures for the foreseeable at the same time as Kolarov, Gomez, Cedric so would like someone that has a home fixture on an alternate week, hence Prodl. Will probably replace Richards for this reason too.

Think Hazard will eventually start firing - too good not to. Like Pedro's pace and directness but will monitor for a few weeks first. Cheers.

Any news on Koscielny yet? I'm thinking about Kos to Kolarov (-4) as Man City should be good bets for a clean sheet and possibly attacking returns and if Kos is out its definitely worth it isn't it?

Your question at worst should be...

          Play 2 from:
          Richards, Darmian, Ward & Gomez...
because you should know you are going to play Kolarov who is the hottest defender in the game right now

I'm actually afraid of Benteke this weekend...didn't realize his ownership was 40% and they are playing a bad West Ham defense without Adrian

What do you guys reckon his prospects are? Would he be worth the extra 1.2 over Gomis for the next 5 given his tendency to be more explosive vs Gomis consistency (which could slow down given his "meh" fixtures and the fact that he gets subbed off around the 70th-80th pretty often)

    1. LFCfanatic786
      • 10 Years

If you can afford bentekkers, bring him in... Although I reckon you should look at Coutinho

    2. tm245
      • 14 Years
      10 years, 7 months ago

If you look at his first six weeks' fixtures, he has played 2 of the 3 more difficult ones already, and has scored in the easier one. Can only see him improving from this point, and I started the season with him.

      1. skeyrd
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 7 months ago

word, yeah he was kind of flying under the radar with all this Gomis, Wilson, Diouf talk, but he will continue to be the main man on a Liverpool team that is improving...especially with Coutinho, Firmino, Milner behind him you have to figure the chances will rain in at some point!

Think I'll be getting him over Gomis soon even though I bought him at 7.0. Seems mad ditching someone so consistent though...

          Would Sturridge affect him soon?

Was rumoured to be back in contention for United. Even if it's a week or two later, surely could be a factor?

hmm hadn't considered that before. the way Rodgers talks about Tekkers though makes

me think that he will hold his spot down and ease Studge back slowly from his injury. Can't see a fully fit Benteke benched for even a 85 % Sturridge in the coming 3-4 GWs...with that said, it really depends on Sturridge's health and Benteke's upcoming form (or possible lack of form) for the next 2.

            thanks for the heads up

              No problem.

Evening all. So, 2m in the bank. Made one transfer (Deeney to Wilson) but considering one more - which will it be!?:

    A) Save it to upgrade Silva to Hazard as originally planned once City's fixtures get harder / Hazard returns to form

    B) Use the extra money to upgrade Payet -> Pedro

    McCarthy
    Richards Kolarov Gomez
    Silva Sanchez Payet Mahrez
    Aguero Wilson Gomis

    Hennessey, Albrighton, Darmian, Naughton

I know my bench is a lot of fodder but how does this WC team look:

    Butland, Ruddy

    Kolarov, Gomez, Cedric, Taylor, Browning

    Sanchez, Pedro, Yaya, Mahrez, Westwood

    Aguero, Benteke, Wilson

What changes should i make? Thanks a lot

Other defenders are kompany, richards and huth.
