It’s been a few weeks since we’ve covered Premier Punt, so we’re going to have a closer look at their unique single game contests that have recently been implemented. Firstly, though, we’re going to run though the weekly and Saturday-only games on offer as I attempt to turn my £100 pot into profit.

In both categories there are £2, £5, £10 and £20 entry games on offer, with a £50 winner-takes-all game contest as well for the more confident Fantasy managers. For the weekly ‘battles’ there are also guaranteed pots for £300 and £150 for a £5 and £3 stake respectively. There’s also a challenge the Pro’s game with £50 on offer that is free to enter.

In the single games, all ten fixtures are available and for these games, a five-player lineup is picked from the two teams. The rules are simple, there are no player valuations but you must pick at least one from each side involved. If one of your chosen five does not start the match then a player with the average score from that team is automatically picked instead. If one of your line-up is subbed then the oncoming player is assigned to your team, so it’s important to stick with the players that tend to play the full 90 minutes.

It’s worth noting as well that, while the standard scoring in the weekly and daily games mirrors that of the official game minus the bonus points, the single games have a different scoring matrix. For example, there are 40 points available for a goal, 15 for an assist but also points on offer for more unusual criteria such as blocked shots (five), corners won (three), crosses (three) and completed passes (one) amongst a few others including negative scoring (minus one for a failed pass). Be sure to have a look at the full list before picking a team.

If you want to try out this unusual format, this week there’s a free to enter £50 contest if you’re playing any paid game in the Tottenham versus Manchester City clash. Last week they had a similar pot on offer for Manchester United’s trip to Southampton and I entered a team that finished 37th with 332 points. There were joint winners, both of whom crucially had Graziano Pelle (138 points) and Anthony Martial (104) for their braces as well as Dusan Tadic (37) and Juan Mata (99), while Daley Blind and Sadio Mane were the only differences between their line-ups but both scored 64 points.

The Bottom Line

I’ve had a great season so far on PremierPunt – a second-placed finish in the opening Gameweek £5 game returned £25.87. I’ve also won £10.89 and £12.50 in other contests, while also losing a few stakes in the weeks since leaving me with a healthy £145.99 overall ahead of this weekend matches.

This Week’s Stake

Weekly – I’ve entered the £300 and £150 guaranteed pot games for a total of £8.80 and also put the full three line-ups available into a £50 free-roll.

Single games – I’m going to put three line-ups into the Spurs v City free game to get more familiar with the scoring system.

Stake – £8.80
Current balance – £137.90

Check out the Weekly Shop article for some of my thoughts on players to pick from this weekend’s fixtures. I’ll be back on Tuesday with coverage of the Champions League contests that PremierPunt are now offering.

    Good to go?

    Myhill (Butland)

    Kolarov, Bellerin, Johnson (Francis, Richards)

    Sterling, Mahrez, Payet, Sanchez (Sinclair)

    Aguero, Gomis, Martial (c)

The only toss ups I can see are Butland or Myhill (I don't think either will keep a CS) and Glen Johnson over Francis

      gtg, prefer But,.this week though

      1. Bøss ⭐
        11 years, 26 days ago

yeah, the thing that swayed me to play Myhill over Butland is I remember how Everton have set up in away games so far this season - sitting deep and defending to try and catch the home side on the break, if they fail to do that because of how well WBA defend it has 0-0 written all over it.

Stoke on the otherhand have been woeful defensively!

I'm anti-Martial so would have to say no. I'd captain Payet and vc Sanchez

        11 years, 26 days ago

if there's one thing I've learned playing this game the past couple seasons, it's when a player is in form and scoring at ease, jump aboard the bandwagon!

        1. Evasivo
          11 years, 26 days ago

That'd be Mahrez, Payet n Kolarov then. In that order. You're captaining a punt

          1. Bøss ⭐
            11 years, 26 days ago

Mahrez and Payet play for worse teams though, with the players around him and the clear talent to take the limited chances he's been given were enough to convince me he's worth the investment.

As you said though, you're anti-Martial which is fair enough but don't be surprised if in a couple months time you have missed out on a lot of points and team value (I stubbornly steered clear of Ramsey a couple seasons back and got burned in the same way!).

Is it crazy to bench Mahrez vs Arsenal and play Sako vs Watford?

    1. Dynamic Duos

      No, good call

    2. Bøss ⭐
      11 years, 26 days ago

not really since Arsenal should win, but the form Mahrez is in it's a bit dangerous (Lei could always get a pen which he'll score)

      1. ducksfly2gether
        11 years, 26 days ago

Look who Mahrez has played against -- the shittiest teams. Arsenal will be their first real test. I think I'm gonna do it. Benching Mahrez will actually be a differential.

    3. Debauchy
      11 years, 26 days ago

With Coq out , expect us to concede and Mahrez involved in everything so yes , crazy

      1. ducksfly2gether
        11 years, 26 days ago

Well would you bench Wilson at Stoke instead? I also have Diof starting...I'm feeling like Sako is a good bet this week. The Mahrez train has got to slow down sometime.

        1. Debauchy
          11 years, 26 days ago

          Yes , of the two

    4. Kun Tozser
      11 years, 26 days ago

Play both! Who else you benching?

      1. ducksfly2gether
        11 years, 26 days ago

        Kolarov Cresswell Clyne

        Mahrez, Payet, Toure, Hazard,

        Diof Wilson Aguero

        Can't really bench anyone else...

        Sako Francis Gomez on bench

    Please rate my Wildcard team

    Butland, Myhill

It is very solid indeed but would like a low ownership player just to mix it up. Perhaps Mané for Ayew?

          1. Gazpilicueta
            11 years, 26 days ago

interesting. I really like Mane, but Southampton are a little weak at the moment, no?

Ayew and Martial to Mata and Sakho.

      1. Gazpilicueta
        11 years, 26 days ago

I think I like this option, because Mata is consistent, and if Martial is a flash in the pan then Mata can stick in my team for a long time. and Sakho is West Hams best up front.....hmmm
plus Swansea have fallen off a bit

        1. Dynamic Duos

            1. Dynamic Duos
              11 years, 26 days ago

The fact is Mata is proven and Sakho like you said West hams best foward, even if Martial isn't a flash in the pan, I would still prefer Mata, he will be my team soon, after Man City.

              1. Gazpilicueta

hmmm, interesting. hey I have a question tho.

I havent actually pressed the wildcard button yet, my other option is to keep the wild card and play this team, thoughts?

            Butland, Ruddy

            Kolarov, Cedric, Huth, Francis, Dawson

            Silva, Mahrez, Pedro, Ayew, Ibe

Knee jerkey? Payet has proven he is an excellent player a reliable FPL prospect, Pelle is a proven PL player who is excellent at home, has great fixtures and scoring goals. Ighalo looks a great player and has already scored 4, he also has to great fixtures. We all now what Hazard can do, especially when confident and against Villa and Toon

Currently have Silva. What is my best option here?

    A) Switch to De Bruyne (taking my hit this week to -8)

    B) Switch to Payet (-8 hit)

    C) Bench him and play Albrighton / Richards instead

    1. bigwig

just not sure he's a viable long term option, given rotation. otherwise i agree - he's looking decent again (annoyingly).

Also got Sanchez, and until Arsenal start scoring 3 a game, i'm reluctant to have both.

Interesting, Doos. Clearly, you walk the walk, and follow your data. I also give great credence to the statistical approach (i.e. past performance as the best predictor of future performance;" a major tenet in the world of psychology, btw), but for elite players in sports, I also consider thrown in "past-past" performance as well as regression to the mean (which then becomes much more subjective). For this one, I am holding, but give you major respect for following your path. Good luck!

Said this before and I'll say it again; if Hazard is indeed off penalties he's a 9.5m player absolute max.

  21. Carrick the Man!!!
    11 years, 26 days ago

    Sanchez Yaya Mahrez Mane
    Kun Ighalo wilson

Is it worth taking a hit to do Gradel > Walcott or Pedro

    If yes, whom ?

Or, should I replace Silva with Pedro? So many options...

  25. Jinswick

    11 years, 26 days ago

I've talked myself out of Martial, so....best option here?

    Silva & Benteke ->

    A) Hazard & Gomis (-4)
    B) Pedro & Gomis (-4)
    C) Hazard & Ighalo (-4)

    A) leaves me with no cash
    B) leaves me with 1.8m (Coates -> Azpil next week)
    C) leaves me with 2.3m (Coates -> Azpil, or Mane -> MCY mid of choice next week)

    Ruddy, Rudd
    Kolarov, Bellerin, Huth, Targett, Coates
    Sanchez, Silva, Mane, Mahrez, Sinclair
    Aguero, Benteke, Wilson

    Bank 0.2m

      C) though I don't know what Ighalos luke, just that he frees lots of money. I got rid of Gomis this week for Martial, hope he doesn't burn me.

      I've an inkling towards Deeney.

I don't know how big an advantage pens are but he's creative and I think he will get goals maybe do a comparison.

Yeah, he has good stats and plays every minute. I'm not sure about filling 2 of the 3 striker slots with BOU and WAT strikers though. Feels quite weak and inflexible.

      D) Sakho then get a west brom defender the following week. He's under the radar, I was going for ighalo and gomis too but he's the best one

Haz, he's back. But pedro could cover his points. Too risky without him
