There were no new victims over the weekend, and no red cards either, but the Suspension Tightrope sleeps for no man, and, after a flurry of cards, it duly snapped up a glut of unwilling funambulists to head into Gameweek 8.

Villa’s Ciaran Clark, Sunderland centre-half Seb Coates and Leicester left-back Jeffrey Schlupp all survived the week unscathed, though the former pair’s causes were helped by the fact they were both unused subs for respective clashes with Liverpool and Man United.

That trio were joined by four new protagonists, who all picked up their fourth cautions of the season in the Gameweek 7 match ups.

The first couple were served up in an action-packed lunchtime clash at White Hart Lane, as Spurs overcame table toppers City with an energetic display that saw five of their front six players booked once they took the lead in the second-half. Goalscorer Eric Dier and his centre midfield partner Dele Alli took their tallies to four for the season for fouls on Fernandinho and Patrick Roberts respectively. Dier has already been drafted in by over 42,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers since the weekend, making him the fourth more sought-after player of the Gameweek.

Next to don the soft shoes and prepare for an acrobatic stint was Sunderland’s Billy Jones. The right-back is no stranger to these parts, with eight bookings in two of the last three seasons, and at least four cards in all of the last five years, despite his failure to secure a regular role at West Brom or Sunderland in that time. Jones scythed down Memphis Depay to earn himself a first taste of the ’15/16 Tightrope.

Finally, the seventh of the current crop of Tightrope walkers – and perhaps one of the most familiar faces of recent times – was Newcastle’s Jack Colback. The combative midfielder joined the party after a first-half booking picked up for a foul on Loic Remy. Fortunately for Jack, injury interrupted his second-half, so he’ll have to wait until at least next week to see if he can add to his growing collection of cards.

True fans of the Tightrope will be more than aware of Colback’s “previous”. Nurtured under the wing of Lee Cattermole at Sunderland, the ginger-haired battler learned quickly from his mentor, picking up a single card in his debut season, upgrading that to three bookings the next term, then five in ’12/13 and seven in his final season with Cattermole on Wearside. A switch to neighbours Newcastle saw Colback blossom into a full-scale disciplinary menace and, in ’14/15, he duly upped his output to 12 cautions – a total bettered only by former team-mate Cattermole (14) last time out. Four cards in just under 650 minutes this season is no surprise, and puts him high on the list of those expected to fall into a ban in his next outing.

Below those players, there are 16 faces currently sitting on three yellows. Branislav Ivanovic, Jose Fonte, Oriol Romeu, Jonjo Shelvey, Yohan Cabaye and Erik Lamela are the new names, having collected a third caution of the campaign over the last two days.

There are no newly-suspended players so far this week, with only tomorrow’s Hawthorns clash between West Brom and Everton remaining.

Arsenal’s Gabriel is available for selection again, having served a one-match ban in yesterday’s 5-2 win at Leicester. Three players still remain suspended for Gameweek 8. Diego Costa, Kevin Mirallas and Valon Behrami all serve the last of three-bans against Southampton, Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively.

You sure you want Sagna? Zabaleta is nearly back, so will lose his place soon I think. Also, Bournemouth aren't that solid at the back, could consider Watford defenders for the same price?

Morning DZ. Ayew and Yaya need to gtfo of my team.

It's probably a good time to ungear myself from City assets while Ayew does have the goal scoring potential.

Thoughts on Yaya > Payet even if he's fit? Thanks.

Thoughts on Noble as cheap 5th mid option?

Nailed, only 5.5, on a good side with quality attacking players, also has option for frees and corners.

hard to beat that for the price and would fund other areas nicely.

Sako , Hoolahan , Brady are all better options at that price

mmm, they seam to be subbed early and often as opposed to Noble and don't have the same set piece duty but have considered them strongly as well. Just feels like a more stable 5th mid and good differential if needed to start..

    Pedro/Sanchez/Yaya/ Westwood/ Maherez
    Vardy/Aguero/ Martial

Happy to take a hit. Alot depends on Yaya. So IF Yaya is fit who is out first-

    A. Gomez
    B Targett
    C Butland

I think I want a Chelsea/ West Brom defense and GK combo have exact cash for Myhill and Azpi. Evans an option. I really want to wait so price changes will prob force my hands. My thinking is pretty muddled. Any input or other suggestions welcome!

Why did you have Gomez and Targett in your wildcard team? This problem was always going to occur. Gomez out first because Targett's cheap enough to rot on the bench for a while.

I know its blasphemous but I'm not sure how good Sanchez is against top opposition in the EPL : Utd, Everton and Swansea up next. Feel like his best hauls last season came against bottom half teams at the Emirates. Plus Watford will sit deep and not give Arsenal space like gung-ho Lei did.

Cant really tell. When Poch bought Davies we all thought he would be number 1. Instead he picked Rose who had his best season at Spurs.

Then this season it seemed a no-brainer Rose would continue to be number 1. Lo and behold Davies is currently holding the fort. Rose is definitely better attacking wise. But maybe Davies is a more reliable defender which is why he is currently there

If you can afford 0.5, go with Dier/Alderweireld....Safer, more attacking returns.

If you can't, Davies is certainly worth a shot. As others said, its his place to lose, so I'd pick him, and then relax. If his name is not on the line up, one day, then I'd transfer him out that week. Till then, enjoy an awesome 4.5 defender.

thanks mate. I've only got 4.8 so can't afford those two atm. Davies seemed the best optionfor that price as I already have evans.

So Vardy vs Sakho looks incredibly close. For me the extra 0.2m means I can't get JEvans/Janmaat next week and instead need a 4.7m or below defender.

Does this make Vardy a shoe in for my team?

    1. La Roja
      • 14 Years

I think Sakho is better choice if you have Mahrez in your team.

      1. Shifty

I guess it's more about whether one reckons Leicester attack is worth the investment because Mahrez is basically 100% owned, leaving only Vardy as a differential.

I have Mahrez and no Payet, so it kind of makes sense to get Sakho. But that does then leave me short for a decent Huth upgrade next week.

    @Jins - Aye, that'd be better.

I do, Chelsea are still looking very shaky, uncoordinated & porous at the back. I agree that KDB has a better fixture for immediate gratification, but right after Saints have (LEI, liv, BOU). That hit & transfer has every chance to bite you back if the Saints score &/or match KdB. Taking the hit into account is where that transfer gets foggy, because it only puts you at an advantage for this upcoming GW.

Saints are playing great at home & more so Mane, both Leicester & Bournemouth are teams leaking goals away from home with waning underlying stats. A double up still looks very profitable for that reason, & even Pool are struggling defensively at home.

Cheers mate, the double up is certainly one of the better ones this season!

The only other point to consider is that I plan to WC for GW11, so the BOU fixture is kind of irrelevant in my transfer decision this week (I'll likely bring at least 1, possibly both of Mane/Pelle back in on the WC).

So that leaves che/LEI/liv - and a double up on attack for those 3 is my concern. Essentially my planned routes comes down to this:

      A) Mane (che, LEI) + Pelle (che, LEI, liv) + Collo (NOR, sun) + 4 points

      Vs

      B) KDB/Silva (NEW, BOU) + Sinclair (STO) + Sako (WHU, lei) + Huth (sot, CPL)

      Thoughts?

    B) Richards (STOKE home)
    C) Darmian (Arsenal away)

Currently play Evans (Richards 1st sub, Darmian 2nd)

Close call between A and C.
      I'd play Darmian.

        thanks for input.
Darmian no attacking threat wont do much damage if United keep a CS, but if not he oftens gets YC (vs Sanchez, Walcott very likely)

I have Guzan in goal this week so Richards should be on the bench to share the risk

Would play Evans. Pulis will have a point to prove.

Will Wilson definitely triple drop this week?

likely, with Vardy at same price range exploded, easy swap

I have nothing banked and would like to play all five of my mids, so to get Vardy, I would have to swrap out Gomis instead. Play 3-5-2 and stash Wilson next gameweek. Play WC the following week. 0.1 cushion on Wilson.

Cheers TM. Makes me feel more confident in stashing him and not taking a hit before playing my WC
