Romelu Lukaku bags a brace and assist as Everton come from behind to clinch victory at the Hawthorns. Saido Berahino and Craig Dawson both find the net for West Brom, whilst James Morrison continues to impress in the budget midfield bracket.

Lukaku Sparks Toffees Fightback

Everton staged a stunning comeback at The Hawthorns, recovering from a two-goal deficit to emerge as 3-2 victors over West Bromwich Albion. Romelu Lukaku was the visitors’ hero on the night, scoring twice and setting up Arouna Kone for the equaliser. The Belgian frontman ended a four-match run of blanks to take his tally to four goals and two assists for the season, having notched a double against Southampton in Gameweek 2. Priced at 8.2, Lukaku – who sits just one point off the top of the forward standings thanks to his 16-point haul – suffers from an unforgiving run of fixtures (LIV, MUN, ars) over the next three which may deter investors.

Kone only entered the fray as a second-half substitute, with Gerard Deulofeu preferred at the right-wing berth. In his first start of the season, the former Barcelona recruit claimed a pair of assists, while only three midfielders chalked up more key passes (four) this Gameweek. As ever, the risk of rotation on the Toffees’ flanks limits the appeal of their attacking contingent beyond Lukaku and Ross Barkley, though at 6.2, Deulofeu would force his way onto many a radar if he can retain a role in Roberto Martinez’ first XI.

Everton are unbeaten across their quartet of road ties, having posted clean sheets in their previous three away clashes. Upcoming trips to Arsenal and West Ham put that record under threat, though. Nonetheless, Manchester City are the only team to best Roberto Martinez’s troops this campaign, which bodes well for their Fantasy prospects from Gameweek 11 (SUN, whu, AVL, bou, CRY, nor, LEI, new, STO).

Berahino in the Goals Again

Saido Berahino netted his second strike in as many starts as the Baggies relinquished a two-goal advantage. The 6.2-priced forward serves as an intriguing differential for those Fantasy managers who are scouring the market for a Callum Wilson replacement, with the West Midlanders enjoying an excellent run of fixtures (cry, SUN, nor, LEI) over the next month.

Craig Dawson’s 2% ownership were delighted to witness their man head home his first goal of the campaign from a corner. The Rochdale-born defender has been a mainstay in West Brom’s rearguard this season, rendering him the safest route into a defence that’s kept more clean sheets (14) than any Premier League side this calendar year. There are concerns at the back for Tony Pulis, considering that Jonas Olsson – the stand-in for Gareth McAuley (calf injury) – lasted just 28 minutes after sustaining a groin problem. McAuley’s absence was clearly a big loss for the Baggies, given they had chalked up four shut-outs in the previous five.

Chris Brunt and James Morrison earned assists for their efforts, with the latter boosting his output (two goals and assists) beyond last season’s haul (two goals and one assist). Only eight midfielders have amassed more shots on target than Morrison (seven), while his 11 key passes are not to be sniffed at. Furthermore, Wes Hoolahan (36) is the only counterpart around his price point (4.9) to tally more points (30) through the first seven Gameweeks, underlining his potential as a budget fifth midfielder.

Morning all, here's a review of 'what the bookes say GW7' with some interesting stats thrown in for good measure.

    - For the first time this season, 7 out of the top 10 FFS Captaincy options (according to the poll) delivered attacking returns this week with Aguero once again failing to deliver.

    - There were only 2 clean sheets this GW (Man United and Crystal Palace), this has been a constant trend from the start of the season. Finding a clean sheet is hard to come by, no matter which team you pick from.

    - A dissapointing tally of just 2 matches were predicted correctly with zero perfect scores, even Lawro would have beaten me this week!

    Stats:

    - Jose Mourinho has never won a Premier League match at St James' Park in six attempts (D3, L3).

    - Chelsea have conceded two or more goals in five consecutive league away matches for the first time since April to August 1992.

    - Wes Hoolahan has assisted five and scored one of Norwich's 11 Premier League goals this season.

    - Mame Biram Diouf has netted five goals in his last seven league appearances.

    - Bournemouth have kept a clean sheet in just one of their seven league games this season.

    - Swansea have won just three of their 17 Premier League games in the month of September (W3 D4 L1). 😯

    - Mata has either scored or assisted in five of his past six Premier League appearances (four assists, two goals).

    - Since August 2013, Gestede has scored 21 headed goals in the league, six more than any other player in the English top four tiers.

    - Since making his Premier League debut in August 2012, Santi Cazorla has provided more assists than any other player (32).

    - Theo Walcott has netted 12 goals in his last 13 Premier League starts.

    - De Bruyne has scored three goals in his past three games for City - from just four shots on target.

    - Toure has four assists in seven league appearances this season. He had only one in 29 games last season.

    - Watford have yet to concede a first-half goal in the Premier League this season, while Palace have conceded just once in the opening 45 minutes.

    - West Brom are now the only team not to concede a goal away from home in the Premier League this season.

    Good luck for GW8! Giggity

This is really good to see!

Interesting that the week the 'alternative picks' featured more highly in the captaincy poll that only 3 of the top ten blanked. I feel vindicated in stopping my alternative picks article now.

Having said that Agüero has been selected by a huge proportion of the community again this week! Yes he faces Newcastle but in form players this season like Mahrez and Payet have Norwich and Sunderland, are the community still blinkered?

1.7 mil rank, by far my worst season so far. Would have been better of auto completing my team basically. How the hell do I come back from this awful start. Go for differentials or do I just let my team be for 3-4 weeks close my eyes and hope it will solve itself ?

Somewhere in between if it were me. Don't go for crazy differentials, but go for good players with good stats (and captain those players) - but make them players that not everyone is picking, and not everyone is captaining. E.g. Sanchez playing at Leicester this week. Clearly a great captaincy choice but very few went for it. A few of those good decisions and you'll make some big leaps.

I'm in the same boat, but even worse, 2.1 mil rank! Have had a really good last few seasons but this is a nightmate. You've got to pick the players you think will score most points, keep doing what you've always done. A differential scoring 6 points a week is no good if the other player is scoring 7. The danger is to chase points so that's where I'm trying to get different players in a bit. For instance this week many people are getting Vardy, but I'm going to take a risk with another player as I don't want to double up on Leicester.

It's going to be a long and slow recovery but by being patient we can do it! Making up an average of 5 points a week on a rival is still 150 points over the season...

Posted this twice yesterday, but very few replies, and I'm still in the same boat, with no idea who to bench & who to captain...

I know it's a bit early, but none of my FF team are playing tonight.

    Faianski (TOT) - Schmeichel (nor)
Bellerin (MUN) - Kolorov (NEW) - Francis (WAT) - Nyom (bou) - Burke
Payet (sun) - Sanchez (MUN) - Walcott (MUN) - Mahrez (nor) - Hoolahan (LEI)
Aguero (NEW) - Sakho (sun) - Gomis (TOT)

Apart from Burke, I have no idea who to bench (Aguero....?)
Also I have yet to choose between Payet, Sakho, Mahrez and Kolorov regarding who to Captain.

    Any help much appreciated 🙂

It's really hard to call. Walcott has started the tough away games for a while, and there's a chance Arsenal would want to treat Utd at home in the same way. Plenty of rest for Walcott between tonight and Sunday if they do, and then Watford away is a pretty good fixture to give Giroud a run out in.

I guess we'll know more after tonight.

Agreed, bench Nyom and Gomis and definitely at least play Aguero! I wouldn't captain Kolorov or Sakho. It's a close call between Payet, Mahrez and Aguero for me. I think Payet might actually be the best option but I'll probably wuss out like I did last week and captain Kun.

I would either upgrade Huth, or swap Darmian, depends on how much you have itb. United have 4 tough fixtures coming up, so I would bench/remove him until around GW10/11.

Spurs have some good fixtures meanwhile, so you could get Dier in for Huth or Darmian.

No idea why you have Gomez to start tbh, also i really dislike the Shaqiri / Pedro atm. Even Yaya is hurt.

Would play Redmond instead of Yaya if not fit, Williams instead of Gomez, first sub Cameron and Myhil instead of Butland.

I'm normally against hits, but how does this 8 pointer look?

    Mane & Pelle -> KDB & Berahino

All 4 are in decent form, but the latter pair have much better fixtures.

    Mane/Pelle (che, LEI, liv)
    KDB (NEW, BOU, mun)
    Berahino (cpl, SUN, nor)

A Saints result at Stamford Bridge - which let's face it isn't a great stretch right now - would make this look pretty bad with Leicester at home the next game.

I'd be captaining Pelle home to Leicester if I had him.

That's true, although it hasn't happened for 13 years. Hard to look past Aguero (BOU) for captain next week despite his recent form - i think City will put them to the sword.

No Mane due to the int break, he is playing 2 days before the game vs LEI. So, might be benched like last time. Would avoid him, pelle a better option. Wouldnt take a hit on berahino, do that transfer for SUN.

So if I went with no premium forwards I could get away with this. It really looks decent imo

    Myhill - Butland
Bavies - Lolarov - Cedric the Entertainer - Janmaat - Dawsons creek
Mahrez - Payet Back - Danger Hazard - Dirty Sanchez - Kevin the Brown
Flukaku - Ighalo - Reg Vardy

I wouldn't go with it as I feel I need a higher value forward for future flexibility but it is pretty good isn't it?

I like the idea, but the saving seems mostly to have been spent across a mid-priced backline, 1-2 of which will be benched in a game week. With cleansheets so sparse I don't think that's the way to go personally. Would rather have Ighalo be e.g. Sturridge (or Son, or Martial, Pelle etc. Whoever's in form).

Bit of a smooth gameweek for me..

      - Made two free transfers: Ritchie (2) + Benteke (inj) > Payet (8) + Pellè (8)

      - Avoided the Martial bandwagon, which would have led to me captaining him for a 10 pointer, rather than Alexis' 40 pointer

Ended with 76 points in total, moving me a million places from 1.5m to 500k 🙂

Transferred Sanchez out for Payet on the Tuesday - had I waited until the Friday I would have done Silva to Payet instead and had a massive week.

Still managed to get a total of 40, and dropped 90,000 places so not a complete disaster.

You would think I would have learned from this and done my transfers later this week, but already transferred out Wilson for Sakho and Silva to get Sanchez back for a total of -4.

      1. Going for Sanchez captain, with both Martial/Kun staring me in the face. (Kun GW8 last season captain shot me up, so had a similar feeling). Ended up on Sanchez and paid off more than I expected, obviously Kun blank, and Martial small points helped.

      From Chucky 77 by email

After a few smooth weeks I had to expect a rough one was round the corner and it came this week.

Had the armband on Sanchez on Saturday morning all ready to log off and bank the second of my free transfers, but suddenly started to feel uneasy about a lack of Hazard against Newcastle (the his opponents to come over coming weeks). Sold Sanchez, bought Hazard (and gave him the armband) and a potential of 40 points from my captain became 10. 30 points down the drain just like that ðŸ™

      1. Almost took a hit to transfer Sanchez out for Hazard. Had the transfer set up, finger hovering over the confirm button five minutes before the deadline, before I changed my mind and forced myself to walk away.

      2. Got another green arrow (third in a row) and a jump of 300,00-odd places and I'm now in the top million.

      Smooth:
      1. Kept Sanchez (was very sure his haul would come) and no one in my mini league had him!
      2. Captained Martial (10 points for a captain is great for me especially coz I was confused between him and Kun!)

      Rough:
      1. The mini league dead team of my friend had Mata vice captain since GW 3 (14x2=28), Joe Gomez captain, Lukaku, Tadic and Pelle. He jumped over me even without touching his team!

Had a decent GW with 54 and 310 OVR.

Another smooth GW for me - 64(-4) despite Ighalo(c) failure. 5th consecutive green, upto to 22k now.

        1. Moves of success - many for me this week

        A good hit, paid off instantly. Silva+Westwood+Gomis - > KdB+payet +Ighalo
        Keeping Sanchez bore the fruits.
Keeping faith with Diouf (my favorite move this week, more than keeping Sanchez)
Dawson paid off that extra outlay.

        2. From 35k to 22k. Have risen from 700k to 22k after 5 consecutive greens after gw3 WC. Top of Insie 's DZ league, 10th in ffs members league, 2nd in Lawro main 😀

        3. biggest learning - keep faith in proven big hitters, especially if underlying stats are good. Don't be afraid to ditch players like Gomis if you see constant decline (one look at his average pitch position sealed that move for me)
Another one - save FT whenever possible. I made only 1 transfer whole season before this week and had 2 FTs. One hit and it changed the whole outlook of the team.

Sorry for not keeping it as short as you wanted 😉

        1. Success - Sanchez(C); Failure - Forced 8pt hit (Gomez,Silva, Benteke -> Azpi, Ighalo, KDB).
        2. Went up 200k places, won ML H2H.
        3. If you're focusing on H2H leagues, and are forced into hits, need to go for a punty (C). Else no chance of getting the 3 pts.

        1. The stats said captain Sanchez, we all knew it was coming, but I went with Mahrez as he had served me well the previous week. A least I had Sanchez at all I guess..

        2. Dipped back out of the top 1m!

        3. Captaincy is a total lottery! One of the idiosyncrisies of FPL compared to many other games.

Transferred Martial in for Benteke and captained for my best captain haul of the season. Doesn't get much better than that although I kept the faith with Kane in my team. Also left Toby on my bench.

This is not just a rough tale for GW7 but for the last 4 Gameweeks, where Silva has made my life a misery!

Gameweek 4: You bring David Silva IN
Gameweek 5: You take David Silva OUT
Gameweek 6: You bring David Silva IN
Gameweek 7: You take David Silva OUT

In Summary: IN, OUT, IN, OUT YOU SHAKE IT ALL ABOUT!!!

Rough - sold Gomez for Nyom to triple on Watford. With 20 minutes remaining of the rubbish game I was hoping for, Watford looked good for the cleanie and Nyom and Gomes were on course for 5 baps. Then my idiot new signing gave away a needless penalty and cost me 17 points.

Think the lost points were worth around 100k in OR.

        1.
        Success: Sánchez (c).
Failure: Mané to Payet before the Silva news, which made me do Silva to Haz (over KDB) for a hit.

        2.
From 1.2M to 620k. An alright rise, but considering the rest of my team did quite poorly I'm a bit disappointed.

        3.
Success-learnings: Trust the stats, in the end, they'll come good.
Failure-learnings: The Haz trade took a big hit on my economy, so that I couldn't do the Wilson to Vardy upgrade as I would want to (settled on Ighalo instead). Want to say I've learned to save my transfers until after the press conferences, but I really haven't as I've made two transfers yesterday. Forced by price changes once again, Wilson to Ighalo. But also Gomis to Pellè for a hit.

        1. Did an 8 point hit with mixed results. Chadli (1), Benteke (0), Surman (2) > Payet (8), Lukaku (16), Sako (3).
First 2 transfers worked out but the third meant I benched Vardy. Also had Sanchez (c) all week but changed to Aguero last minute. Cost me close to 40 points.

        2. Still got 76 (-8) and rank up to 51k

        3. Always have 4.5 bench fodder so you don't bench massive hauls

        1) 11.43am aguero captain, wasn't entirely confident so asked the missus whether to captain aguero or sanchez? She chose sanchez so I changed it to him....amazing, also diouf getting a goal and 2 bonus points was incredible too.
        2) 606k to 177k
        3) This wont work every week

        Costa (0), Benteke (0), Silva (0) -> Sturridge (c) (26), Sakho (6), Hazard (5). For my first -4 of the season.

Moved up 300k but still outside top 2m lol.

Lesson learnt. It's a long road but I know that already!

Less than 7½% of the current top 10k own Alexis Sanchez, but our FFS league leader Jason Smith owned and captained him and has moved up to 56th overall.

        Rough becomes Smooth

I missed a price rise deadline by a few minutes so I couldn't do
Silva, Sanchez, Gomis to KDB, Martial, Hazard

        Ended up doing
        Silva, Gomis to Pedro, Martial

Forgot to confirm Martial as captain so Coutinho ended up being cap.

Finally I was left with Sanchez, Coutinho(c), Martial and Pedro. Rank 870k > 500k 😀

Mostly Rough for me this week... Wanted a united player as I was watching the game on my 30th birthday.

        1) Sanchez & Diouf(i) out for De Bruyne & Martial (c) for a hit. Clicked confirm and went to my team to find a red 'I' on lovren who joined ward on my injury hit bench. Forced me to play my AOA chip to avoid playing Richards against Liverpool. Redmond came into midfield to reduce the damage somewhat! Scraped 46 points in the end.

        2) dropped 90k in rank to 221k

        3) wait until at least Friday night for transfers, don't panic over .1m and stop taking unnecessary short sighted hits.

Well, this should make you guys feel better,
Fresh out of game week 6 with 61 points I got rid of sanchez after having him since game week 2 and replaced him with payet, game week 7 I got a whopping ...... 29 points, went from 1.0mil rank to 1.8+ mil rank,
        My captain was aguero boooo.
Despite his upcoming fixtures I have got sanchez back in now so don't you guys expect much more from him in the coming weeks.

        Game week 7 team
        Butland
        Zouma kolarov Williams
        Payet pedro bruyne mahrez

Scored 42pts but benched Mane, Dier and Dawson - all scored goals. 24 pts on the bench!

So he picked the squad but not the team! Instead he got a total of 3 points from all his defenders hahahaha! he is so bad 🙂

        1. SUCESS - Giving my highest scoring player of the week (Payet) the armband, the second week running I have given the armband to my highest scoring player after Mahrez (c) GW6.

        2. Brought my average up to (just) above 40 points and prevented me dropping a further 200K places.

        3. I should probably buy Sánchez now.

        1. FAILURE - Owning Agüero & Pedro instead of Sánchez.

        2. Dropped by over 200K places to outside the top 500K.

Benching Sinclair for his 14 point haul earlier in the season is still fresh in the memory. One of these needs to drop to the bench - which one?

      A) Sinclair (STO) - on pens and up against a leaky Stoke defence
      B) Mane (che) - tricky fixture but is on form
      C) Pelle - see C)

Mane caused Chelsea loads of problems last season, pitching in with a goal and assist over the 2 games, whereas Pelle returned nothing.

I'm edging towards C), but I think it is really close.

I have been saying it since last season.... pelle really isn't that good. U give a bad player that many chances.... dumb luck says he'll score eventually.

Dont get me wrong he has rare moments of brilliance.... but they are rare. I would play shane long over pelle for sure. ... longs link up play with mane creates all sorts of problems for defences

So far I haven't made a single good transfer decision so I could use some help. I've got Wilson who needs to go and would love to get Vardy but I've got nothing in the bank. I've also got Ayew who isn't performing. So do I do:

      a) Wilson+Ayew->Vardy+MF at 6.5 or below (Cabaye, Redmond, Lens, someone else?) for a hit.
      b) Simply do Wilson->Ighalo (or someone else below 5.9)

Ozick has a history of not showing up or performing in big games. With Chelsea being so poor though also I'd be inclined to play Mane and bench Ozil.
