Romelu Lukaku bags a brace and assist as Everton come from behind to clinch victory at the Hawthorns. Saido Berahino and Craig Dawson both find the net for West Brom, whilst James Morrison continues to impress in the budget midfield bracket.

Lukaku Sparks Toffees Fightback

Everton staged a stunning comeback at The Hawthorns, recovering from a two-goal deficit to emerge as 3-2 victors over West Bromwich Albion. Romelu Lukaku was the visitors’ hero on the night, scoring twice and setting up Arouna Kone for the equaliser. The Belgian frontman ended a four-match run of blanks to take his tally to four goals and two assists for the season, having notched a double against Southampton in Gameweek 2. Priced at 8.2, Lukaku – who sits just one point off the top of the forward standings thanks to his 16-point haul – suffers from an unforgiving run of fixtures (LIV, MUN, ars) over the next three which may deter investors.

Kone only entered the fray as a second-half substitute, with Gerard Deulofeu preferred at the right-wing berth. In his first start of the season, the former Barcelona recruit claimed a pair of assists, while only three midfielders chalked up more key passes (four) this Gameweek. As ever, the risk of rotation on the Toffees’ flanks limits the appeal of their attacking contingent beyond Lukaku and Ross Barkley, though at 6.2, Deulofeu would force his way onto many a radar if he can retain a role in Roberto Martinez’ first XI.

Everton are unbeaten across their quartet of road ties, having posted clean sheets in their previous three away clashes. Upcoming trips to Arsenal and West Ham put that record under threat, though. Nonetheless, Manchester City are the only team to best Roberto Martinez’s troops this campaign, which bodes well for their Fantasy prospects from Gameweek 11 (SUN, whu, AVL, bou, CRY, nor, LEI, new, STO).

Berahino in the Goals Again

Saido Berahino netted his second strike in as many starts as the Baggies relinquished a two-goal advantage. The 6.2-priced forward serves as an intriguing differential for those Fantasy managers who are scouring the market for a Callum Wilson replacement, with the West Midlanders enjoying an excellent run of fixtures (cry, SUN, nor, LEI) over the next month.

Craig Dawson’s 2% ownership were delighted to witness their man head home his first goal of the campaign from a corner. The Rochdale-born defender has been a mainstay in West Brom’s rearguard this season, rendering him the safest route into a defence that’s kept more clean sheets (14) than any Premier League side this calendar year. There are concerns at the back for Tony Pulis, considering that Jonas Olsson – the stand-in for Gareth McAuley (calf injury) – lasted just 28 minutes after sustaining a groin problem. McAuley’s absence was clearly a big loss for the Baggies, given they had chalked up four shut-outs in the previous five.

Chris Brunt and James Morrison earned assists for their efforts, with the latter boosting his output (two goals and assists) beyond last season’s haul (two goals and one assist). Only eight midfielders have amassed more shots on target than Morrison (seven), while his 11 key passes are not to be sniffed at. Furthermore, Wes Hoolahan (36) is the only counterpart around his price point (4.9) to tally more points (30) through the first seven Gameweeks, underlining his potential as a budget fifth midfielder.

He'll be in constant rotation with Zaha this season I think (and maybe Bolasie now and then).

But for his price, I think that still makes him a decent option.

I don't think he will, Wickham / Gayle pushing for starts soon which means Bolasie taking one of the 3 attacking mid spots. Zaha did well too

All the above doesn't bopde well for Sako IMO

I know KDB is flavour of the month, but if Silva is back, would anyone be tempted with Silva over KDB?

    1. Taffer
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 2 months ago

Maybe - I think that KDB is more of a goal scorer though. He is a great shooter from distance and much happier making third man runs.

      1. Taffer
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 2 months ago

For instance for KDBs goal at the weekend Silva would have either squared it or checked his run and wanted the ball into feet IMO.

I just think its a bad idea. Going with only Chelsea GK for this week. Bookies have them at over 3 odds to keep a CS against Porto. If you want Begovic so badly then replace Rajkovic with someone like Ryan, who plays on day 2.

    Swansea 2-2 Newcastle

    October 2013 (PL only)

    October 2012 (PL only)

    Andre Ayew owners.

    What the hell happened??

4 attempts in the last 4. 10 peno box touches.

At the same time - Swansea seem to raise themselves for the big games and I can't help but look at Spurs at home this weekend as a nice fixture for him to grab a goal in.

On the other hand downgrading him gives me funds for upgrading Wilson (rather than a sideways move to an e.g. Vardy)

But who are the options downgrade of Ayew?

    Redmond
Hoolahan (bit worry about minutes and 'just' being a creator)
    Sako
    Others??

I have him and think maybe in a few weeks dropping him for Barkley could be good. Or Tadic?

I'm dangerously close to a controversial 8 pointer, which is very unlike me.

    Mane & Pelle -> Silva/KDB & Berahino (-8)

Planning to WC for GW11 and SOT have tough fixtures between now and then (che, LEI, liv), and we all know how they faltered against the bigger teams last season. Granted, LEI is an attractive fixture, but with Mane playing an international in Africa 2 days before it, I fear he could get rested. They have options after all with the likes of Long and JRod. Silva and KDB by contrast have 4 and 5 days to recover before they face BOU, which is just as good a fixture as LEI, arguably better.

If the real City turn up they should put NEW and BOU to the sword over the next 2 game weeks, and with Berahino being on pens and scoring 2 with 5 bonus in the 2 games since transfergate, and facing SUN, cpl and nor in the next 3 (arguably the 3 leakiest defences in the league), he could also do well.

A load of waffle, or am I on to something here...?

Tough one but I think I'd bench Ayew.

What a nightmare GW7; brought in Ighalo and Payet for Benteke and Wanyama at last minute with the intention of benching Ighalo and playing 5 in midfield. However missed deadline and Payet's 8 points remained on the bench.

Now Wilson is out for 6 months and I've no money to upgrade.

    Shall I:

    a) Play the team below and wait to transfer out Wilson

    b) Wilson > Vardy & Kolorov > Evans (-4)

    c) Wilson > Sturridge, Kolorov > Evans, YaYa >Hoolahan (-8)

    d) Wilson to yet another cheapie

    d) Something else?

    Myhill

    Richards, Kolarov, Francis

    Payet, Sánchez, Mahrez, Yaya, Pedro

    Ighalo, Agüero

    McCarthy, Wilson, Cédric, Gomez
