Our midweek “Weekly Shop” article arrives once again this afternoon, as we cast an eye over those players currently under consideration for our squads across weekly and daily Fantasy Football games.

This early scouting article is divided into two sections. The “Better Buys” will look at the key players for the week ahead, generally assessing those in-form assets who are braced for a promising fixture. The “Poundstretchers”, on the other hand, are the Gameweek prospects that should offer excellent value – often one-week punts, whose lower price tags enable funds to be spent on the big-hitters elsewhere in our lineups.

In today’s article, we assess what’s on offer in this week’s two featured games FantasyBet, and PremierPunt

Better Buys

Following four clean sheets in five between Gameweek 2-6, West Brom’s backline have since conceded five in their last two, with injuries contributing to a downturn in resilience. A home fixture against a Sunderland side that have scored only twice in their last four is an opportunity to recover the defensive solidity Tony Pulis’ teams typically display, with Boaz Myhill – at 4.5m in FantasyBet and 7.3m in Premier Punt – looking a strong option between the posts. After making six saves in his last outing against Crystal Palace, the keeper could be busy again against a Black Cat team that may be re-invigorated with the arrival of Sam Allardyce.

Chelsea’s defensive frailties have been well documented, with a single shut-out and 17 goals conceded over the first eight matches very unusual for a Jose Mourinho side. Weekend visitors Villa however offer the chance for the Blues to rediscover some coherency in defence, though – Tim Sherwood’s side have failed to score in two of their last three matches and have only notched eight goals in total this term. Chelsea look set to be without Branislav Ivanovic, who has been an uncharacteristic liability this term, whereas Cesar Azpilicueta (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 9.2m) has been their most consistent performer and has started every match so far.

Alexis Sanchez’ (FantasyBet 11m, classed as a forward in Premier Punt at 15.4m) statistics over the initial six Gameweeks indicated that goals were imminent and our patience was rewarded, with five strikes over the last two matches re-affirming the Arsenal attacker as a top Fantasy pick. The Gunners do have a crucial midweek Champions League tie with Bayern to follow their trip to Watford but the Chilean’s stunning form is too integral for Arsene Wenger to rest this weekend, having produced nine goals and two assists in the last five appearances for club and country.

After serving up four goals and five assists since Gameweek 4, Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.2m) has shot to the top of the forwards leaderboard. The Southampton frontman – who also scored in the midweek international for Italy against Norway – will be a popular pick this week, given that he’s up against a Leicester side that have conceded 15 goals so far (the fourth worst record in the league) and have yet to earn a clean sheet.

Poundstretchers

Steve McClaren’s problems at Newcastle were compounded with the news that Tim Krul will be out for the season after sustaining a knee injury on duty for Holland. Robert Elliot (FantasyBet 4m, Premier Punt 6.4m) is set to fill in over a kind run of fixtures that begins with the visit of Norwich. The six goals conceded at Manchester City could potentially be the wake-up call the Magpies need to lift themselves off the bottom of the table, whilst Elliot could rack up save points if the Magpies backline fails to keep the Canaries at bay.

Arsenal have collected a clean sheet in all four occasions that Gabriel (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.1m) has played the full 90 minutes in the league this season, highlighting the Brazilian’s steadying influence in central defence. With Laurent Koscielny unlikely to be available for the clash at Watford, the cut-price Gabriel looks less prone to rotation than the Gunners full-backs ahead of the Bayern encounter and the visitors will be optimistic of another shut-out, considering that the Hornets have scored just once at Vicarage Road so far.

Our next pick is a little more expensive than our usual Poundstretcher options, though Sergio Aguero’s absence for City should leave enough in the bank for most Fantasy managers to splash the cash. With that in mind, we’re backing Palace’s Yohan Cabaye (6.5m in FantasyBet and 8m in PremierPunt), who has been directly involved in his side’s last three goals, scoring two and providing the assist for the other, resulting in back-to-back wins for Alan Pardew’s side. The Frenchman also scored over the international break and looks in fine form ahead of the upcoming visit from London neighbours West Ham.

Saido Berahino (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 9.7m) had a difficult few weeks at West Brom after pushing for a move over the summer. After returning to the Baggies first XI, the frontman scored in successive matches prior to the 2-0 defeat at Selhurst Park last time out, where he was withdrawn at half-time. Tony Pulis criticised the forward’s performance against Palace, meaning it’s a risky pick, but up against Sunderland’s porous backline, the youngster should still be considered as a budget option.

These are the players on my radar ahead of this weekend’s weekly contests. On Friday, I’ll be back with a further look at both this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and PremierPunt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Did two early transfers for -4 and I still have Aguero, Yaya, and Kolarov in my team. All are flagged though two might play.

What would you do here - this is my team without further transfers, I could wait a week to transfer Kun out maybe?

    -----------------------------------------Butland (swa)-------------------------------------

    --------------Dawson (SUN)-- Souare (WHU)--Kolarov (BOU)----------------

    Payet (cpl)---Hazard (AVL)---Yaya (BOU)---Mahrez (sou)--Tadic (LEI)

    --------------------------------Vardy (sou)-----Pelle (c) (LEI)--------------------------

Any need to make further transfers?

Richards (che) and Morgan (sou) are my two remaining players with Kun.

Don't take a hit think you will be fine this week, not one striker is so essential ( beside pelle and vardy ) to take a hit for

Cheers mate... leaning towards holding but I must admit seeing lots of people doing Kun to the likes of Costa/Sturridge and people getting KDB in with the Kun money is a bit of a concern.

Yeah wait a week, that strong midfield will see you through.

If worst comes to worst, at least your bench players are looking at a point or two rather than a goose-egg (0).

    Pick one please. 🙂

    A) Fletcher----> Walcott + Lamela-----> Mane (Requires an extra hit to afford)

    B) Lamela----> Mane/Walcottt + Martial-----> Sturridge/Bony (Doesn't require an extra hit)

    Team:
    Begovic
    Dawson Kolarov Williams (Cedric, Browning)
    KDB Sanchez Mahrez Lamela (Fletcher)
    Martial Sakho Pelle

    Thank you 🙂

None needed. If you punted on Lamela see it through or just swap him out. No need to swap Fletcher for a hit when you're not playing the replacement

    Couple of questions 🙂

    1) Looking at defensive stats, shots conceded doesn't seem to correlate with goals conceded. So is the simple statistic the best here- just look at goals conceded?

    2) worth a hit to go Barkley ->> Sanchez (c)?

    1. InvertedWinger
      • 10 Years

      1) Shots conceded in the box is a better stat to correlate to goals conceded

Very good point. Watford have been very solid, but out of the four home games WBA don't attack, Soton were on poor form at the time, Swansea poor form and Palace not looking great going forwards. Difficult one but Arsenal might be the team to open the floodgates!?

Costa or Hazard, the better Chelsea option?

I had asked this question about 8 hours ago and received 7 replies.

Costa- 2 votes (Epic failure, Athletico Timbo)
Hazard- 5 votes (La Roja, Bane from Batman, FFS Addicts, Alittude, Rolls Reus)

All top managers and never given me a bum steer 🙂

Now I ask this question in the most Active Zone in FFS.
    Please suggest, Hazard or Costa?

    Thanks.

      For me it's Hazard

Costa is looking way out of shape and less likely to grab bonus points because he's a bit of a card magnet

Hazard on the other hand played a very good game for Belgium yesterday (also scored), gets around 200 points every year, barely gets a card and is still on pens I believe

it's difficult to fit in an out of form 11.2m mid or an out of form 10.9m striker when there are much cheaper options firing

sorry, at the moment I won't consider chelsea. They will fire eventually but at the moment there is nothing to show they will

Deciding between Costa, Alexis and De Bruyne for the armband. The last 2 are the obvious choices. But:

    1) Concerned over Alexis' game time with 2 international games under his belt and CL around the corner.

    2) Concerned over City's attacking potential without Silva and Kun.

    3) Concerned over Chelsea´s form but it is the perfect game to maul Villa. Costa is fresh and most importantly is a HUGE differential in my mini league and I have much terrain to regain.

Is it really that crazy to captain Costa?

When people mention using their bench boost chip the go-to response appears to be "wait til a double gameweek".

As far as I can see the only way a bench boost during a double gameweek will give you a clear advantage is if:

    A) your bench players: your hoolahans, francis's, deeneys etc have a double gameweek, so you want to field them as well as your main men or;

    B) there are so many teams with a double gameweek that you can field more than 11 players with DGWs. This is a less likely scenario, would require a lot of planning and possibly a wildcard immediately before/after said gameweek to account for blank gameweekers. Also, the fact that it is a double gameweek increases uncertainty regarding rotation and likelihood of injuries stemming from the first game.

I think that if your find yourself in a situation where you have a fully fit 15 - all very likely to start - with good fixtures, then that is the time to use your bench boost. Any other planning for DGWs is unlikely to yield the points you imagine it deserves

It's best to use right after a WC if you get the fixtures right imo.

Remember you can't use both in a single gameweek, so wildcard needs to come the week begore DGW. That week may include blank fixtures etc, plus you're using a wildcard for the sake of one gameweek, and you'd have loads of players from the same teams, which might not work out perfectly fixtures wise.

        Not that straightforward

Scenario a) is exactly the reason why it'll be great in a double gameweek. It's not about having 15 double gameweekers, but it means you can retain your strong singleweek players with a good fixtures, as well as getting in decent doublegameweek options

During a DGW we will have good SGW players too, id hope to have 11/12 DGWrs and 3/4 SGWrs with good fixtures. I imagine with the scheduling next year this will be possible

I think the more important factor is when you have enough roster value to have a strong bench or capable producers, and then you use your bench boost to get their points. This is more likely in the second half of the season. Combine that with a DGW where some or most of your now premium players have multiple games, and it is theoretically the optimal timing.

    Aguero to Lukaku

    and

Mahrex to KDB (for City attacking cover)

for a hit. what do you think?

Wouldn't be desperate for City attacking cover but I think the hit will pay off.

KDB q: would anyone advise doing this?

Hit -4 Westwood > KDB (mahrez sou would go to bench)

    1.yes
    2.no

**given kdb might have a goal and an assist ag BOU even w/out silva n kun.

    Sanchez / Haz / Payet / Mahrez / Westwood
    Pelle / Ighalo / Martial

Nope. Play the fixtures but Vardy has stats, fixtures and better team.

Haha thank you fellas. If I end up with a 'template' KDB Alexis Hazard Mahrez Pelle attacking unit, I'd love a cheeky punt. Its his puts-Balotelli-to-shame disciplinary record that has me worried.

Hi guys, UFPL question... Of these 7 (Match Day 1) Midfielders, which 5 would you play, and who would you leave out?

    Mata (eve)
    Mahrez (sou)
    Chadli (LIV)
    Pedro (AVL)
    De Bruyne (BOU)
    Barkley (MUN)
    Mane (LEI)

Costa has had several weeks to get back to fit and Mou is capable to turn things around.

Not sure if this is blind faith for Chelsea or genius move.

Im tempted by Aguero+Westwood ->Ighalo+Hazard-8 and AOA instead of playing Richards (1 point). 2 flies in 1 shot and extra hit. Would you?

Wales ranked 8th in the World rankings, but only 28th best in Europe according to UEFA's National Team Coefficients.

True, if the world rankings are used Wales would be in pot 1 for the Euro's, instead of Pot 4
