Our Friday pre-Gameweek members article comes around again, as we focus on the main captaincy contenders in accordance with our Captain Poll. We take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Alexis Sanchez (33%) sits atop the summit of our Captain Poll by virtue of his explosive returns in the past three Gameweeks – the Chilean forward has accrued six goals and 46 points over that stretch. Next on Arsenal’s agenda is a home tie against an Everton outfit that has only conceded in one of their road ties this campaign. Nonetheless, they’ll do well to rebuff the advances of a Gunners attack that’s amassed 11 goals in their previous trio of outings. Elsewhere in the north Londoners’ camp, Mesut Ozil (1%) also features in the top 10, having already matched his assist haul (six) from last season.

Jamie Vardy has attracted 29% of the votes in light of his eight goals in six starts. Leicester’s red-hot frontman only failed to deliver attacking returns on one occasion this campaign, underlining the consistency of his returns. Following his impactful second-half showing against Southampton, just under 5% of our voters expect Riyad Mahrez to deliver the goods in the Foxes’ home clash against Crystal Palace. Leicester racked up 10 goals in their previous four encounters at the King Power Stadium, which bodes well for the Eagles’ visit. Visiting boss Alan Pardew reckons we should “expect to see some goals†in this clash, which suits owners of the Leicester pair just fine.

Georginio Wijnaldum and Diego Costa (both 3%) look real differentials for the armband this week. The former boasts five strikes and one assist in three appearances, following his four-goal frenzy last time out, and faces a trip to a Sunderland side that’s yet to record a clean sheet this term. The latter, meanwhile, notched a goal and an assist on his return from suspension and will fancy his chances of scoring away to West Ham, given that the Irons conceded eight goals in their last four home match-ups.

Despite failing to register a single shot at home to Stoke City last Gameweek, Andew Ayew (2%) – who’s carded one goal in five outings – is the sixth most popular captaincy pick. This is a doubtless a reflection of the fact that Swansea City face a trip to Aston Villa, who are without a win on home soil.

Kevin De Bruyne has tallied three goals and as many assists in his previous four league starts but enjoys just 2% of the vote ahead of the Manchester derby. The fact that hosts Manchester United have conceded just one goal at home this term clearly serves as deterrent, although the corresponding fixture has played witness to nine goals in the last two years.

Harry Kane (1%) – who’s drawn blanks in eight of his nine starts – will look to kick-start his campaign when Tottenham Hotspur travel to Bournemouth on Sunday. The Cherries shipped eight goals in their last three fixtures, which also brings Christian Eriksen (two goals and a pair of assists in four) into contention with a 1% backing.

If you have a FT, I would consider selling Mane for KDB in the hopes of a big game. I think he is more likely to have a big haul than Mane. Just sorta a calculated gamble. I am sure you can find a similar gamble for Pelle or Martial > a different forward, but not at the expense of lost profits (whereas Mane probably got you no $).

    *MASSIVELY INAPPROPRIATE POST*

This seems a largely inappropriate place to put this but it's a community I can generally trust to give mature responses/advice.

I've got a problem. Since I started Uni, my sports trading has really started going well and I have spent an awful lot of time alone in my room trading cricket, football and golf to a good degree of success money-wise. However, it is beginning to dominate my life, and the time requirement is coming at the expense of the lectures and seminars I am required to attend. This week I have missed all of my seminars but made an additional £100 grafting sports trading. I enjoy making the extra money and my course has not really incited a real interest so far, plus in the seminars I have attended I've discovered that my fellow students on the course are, to be honest, d1cks.

I don't know what to do; feck University off altogether and nail the trading or stop being a b1tch about doing real work, apologise to my tutors and get to grips with my course (but stop making money). It's taken a lot of effort in my family for me to get here at a good university but I'm struggling with it, big time.

It might sound harsh but I just finished my 4 year degree and a good few of my mates dropped out of college (after their parents paying THOUSANDS in college fees) without fully launching themselves into the course.

Every course is passable if you put in the effort and time, and a degree is almost essential in this day and age.

Prioritize your life, bro, using a long-term thinking strategy, Rayne. Do you see yourself trading sports forever? (rhetorical question -- the answer is "no."). Cut back on the trading, and get really good grades in college so you have career options. If this is an addiction, get help. [FWIW to you, this is professional advice from someone who does this sorta stuff for a living, too]

The photo is not always the top of the Captain Poll - last week KDB was winning the Poll but Sanchez was the photo.

Must be the overall conclusion as to the "Sensible Captain"

Where would you improve this team? 3.8m ITB, 1FT.

Westwood > Wijnaldum and go 3-5-2? Don't know what striker to drop though.

I think WH are gonna beat Chelsea.
But I guess that has no bearing on how many goals Costa could score.

Apart from last week CP have only conceded a goal per game (except for the 2 cleanies)

        Could be pretty tight.

    Begovic - (Hennessey)

    Bellerin - Moreno - Janmaat - (Bertrand) - (Simpson)

Sanchez - Ozil - De Bruyne - Mahrez - (Anya)

    Costa - Vardy - Pelle

We have 5 members, so there is one spot left. Bubz has agreed to join and will email me later (when he has finished work) to finalize everything.

If you're interested, send me an email. I can't promise there will be a space but given what has been said, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a vacancy.

If you're happy waiting, I can keep you on the shortlist. According to LR, he has a 'scout' in several teams, including ours. If this is true, we will need at least one more player so you're welcome to join if it turns out to be true.
