634x258 Suspensions

Five players toppled off the Suspension Tightrope this Gameweek, as James Milner, Jeffrey Schlupp, Erik Pieters, Fernandinho and Jack Colback totted up their fifth cautions of the campaign and incurred a one-match ban.

Fortunately for the former quartet, they will serve out their suspensions in Capital One Cup clashes in midweek. Colback, on the other hand, misses Newcastle’s home tie against Stoke next Gameweek as the Magpies were knocked out in the previous round of the competition by Sheffield Wednesday. The midfielder was already a doubt for the Potters clash anyway, after he was forced off early in the second period due to a challenge from Lee Cattermole – early reports indicate he left the stadium on crutches.

In terms of other new suspensions, Fabricio Coloccini received a straight red for a foul on Steven Fletcher that led to the Black Cats’ penalty opener. Like Colback, he’ll be unavailable for selection when the Magpies welcome Stoke to St James’ Park, though reports this evening suggest that the Tyneside team are set to appeal the decision.

Post match, Magpies manager Steve McClaren clearly felt that whistler Bobby Madley made a match-changing error:

“It’s simple: he’s wrong in my opinion. Referees are part and parcel of the game and you control your performance – you can’t control the opponent or the referee and they can affect the result, and they have done today, not so much the opponent, but definitely the referee.”

McClaren’s opposite number, Sam Allardyce, also reckoned the dismissal was a little harsh on the Argentine:

“We’ve taken full of advantage of a piece of good fortune. I did think it’s a foul, personally. I’ve had a look at it. If he hadn’t made contact with him, I think Steven Fletcher would have scored. It was on his left foot, on his best side. It [the red card] is a bit harsh, but those are the rules and we’ve taken full advantage of that today. We had a harsh decision go against us last week, this week it went for us. I thought it was a penalty. The fortunate thing is the sending off”.

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Everton veteran Gareth Barry were both given their marching orders for two bookable offences but also fulfil their obligations in midweek cup matches. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is unconcerned over Barry’s midweek absence for a home clash with Norwich, claiming “he was going to be rested anyway”.

Sadio Mane was sent off in a farcical turn of events at Anfield, entering the referee’s notebook twice in stoppage time after bagging an equaliser in the 85th minute. Much to the relief of his 9% ownership, the Senegal international serves his time when Saints play host to Aston Villa in the League Cup, returning for a tasty home fixture against the Cherries.

Elsewhere on the Tightrope, Jonjo Shelvey edged one step closer to a brief spell on the sidelines, earning his fourth yellow of the season. Ciaran Clark, Eliaquim MangalaMatteo Darmian, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele AlliMark Noble, Erik Lamela and Claudio Yacob make up the numbers in a ten-strong band of miscreants.

Dwight Gayle completed his one-match ban and returns to Crystal Palace’s squad for their home encounter against Manchester United next Gameweek. With Connor Wickham still uncertain to recover in time from a calf complaint, the 5.1-priced marksman is likely to lead the line ahead of Fraizer Campbell and Patrick Bamford.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

This is probably the fifth week in a row I've posted this, but my nonstop green arrow streak somehow continues.

I thought I was a goner this week, after my transfer fail of Ayew to Sanchez, and nothing significant from yesterday apart from a Kolarov clean sheet.

Green arrow looks nice, but really the meaning of that arrow depends a lot of your position and the GW in general. I'd rather lose 5 points to average in a low scoring GW and take a 40 point advantage to average on a high scoring one, than to win 5 points to average every GW.

And a case in point, I was lower than you GW2, have got several red arrows since then, but am over 100k positions higher than you now.

Should I bring in KDB or Silva for the Norwich game?

Silva gives me more flexibility to bring Aguero back and I quite fancy him to get stuck right in (should he start). Risk is he may not start and may not be as sharp...

Has to be KDB for long term. Nothing wrong with either though. I'm in the same boat. But o think selling Pelle for lunch and downgrading a midfielder should be enough. Also downgrading kolv when he becomes rotation risk

Fair enough! I think Harry Kane's on the list as well. I always assumed people were adjudged donkeys based on a perceived lack of finishing ability but evidently not.

I may refrain from referring to the likes of Vardy, Sakho and Kane as donkeys on here, though, if you don't mind. People might think I don't know what I'm on about!

I think it's more the fact they are very unreliable. They'll start to pick up a bit of form then continuously blank. Another factor is they take a lot of shots with only a small conversion rate

That's more what I was expecting. Still not sure Pelle, Lukaku and Giroud fall into that category. Maybe for shot conversion but they're pretty reliable in terms of scoring regularly. Your definitions strike me as a bit more standard than Doosra's though!

I was so into going WC this GW but would you really with this team:

    Butland (new) / Cognac
Kola (NOR), Azpi (LIV), Huth (wba) / Davies, Targett
KDB (NOR), Ozil (swa), Mana (BOU), Mahrez (wba) / Bolasie
Costa (LIV), Martial (cry), Sakho (wat)

    ?

    Lukaku Vs Martial Vs Benteke

for me it would depend on Martial's position but they have some nice fixtures now.

Lukaku but only because none of them have had great short-term form, and he has the best long-term fixtures.

What is the best move here?

    Begovic / McCarthy
    Azpilicueta / Darmien / Kolorov / Richards / Ward
    Sanchez / KdB / Payet / Mahrez / Westwood
    Pelle / Lukaku / Vardy

    Westwood to Barkley/Herrera/Cabaye/Wijnaldum/Willian

    Or

    Richards to any defender?

Morning all. Which transfers are most urgent here, and who to bring in?

    Myhill
    Kolarov Dawson Bellerin
    De Bruyne Sanchez Mahrez Payet
    Vardy Martial Pelle

    McCarthy Albrighton Richards Francis

    2FT 4.8m

I'll wait to see how midweek games go but currently considering:

    A) Dawson to van Dijk (rolling over extra FT)

    B) Martial + Albrighton to Ighalo + Özil (but will have a selection headache each week!!)

Nice team. Starting 11 is fine, just upgrade McCarthy or Richards and save the other FT.

Thanks man. Tempted to bring in a strong 5th mid and replace Martial with a cheaper bench option (such as Ighalo though), just while he's being kept on the wing!

    Schmeichel
    Bellerin, Zouma, Sagna
    Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mahrez, Hazard
    Pelle Vardy
    McCarthy, Martin, Francis, Watmore
    1ft, 1,2 m itb

Appreciate your opinions on these suggestions

    Shall I keep Sagna?
Hazard > Ozil, Mata or Mane?
Or Upgrade Martin to Van Dijk

      Sagna: no-lost his place.
I prefer Mata for his goal threat and fixtures. However Mane's newfound consistency is reassuring at present.
