[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Five players toppled off the Suspension Tightrope this Gameweek, as James Milner, Jeffrey Schlupp, Erik Pieters, Fernandinho and Jack Colback totted up their fifth cautions of the campaign and incurred a one-match ban.

Fortunately for the former quartet, they will serve out their suspensions in Capital One Cup clashes in midweek. Colback, on the other hand, misses Newcastle’s home tie against Stoke next Gameweek as the Magpies were knocked out in the previous round of the competition by Sheffield Wednesday. The midfielder was already a doubt for the Potters clash anyway, after he was forced off early in the second period due to a challenge from Lee Cattermole – early reports indicate he left the stadium on crutches.

In terms of other new suspensions, Fabricio Coloccini received a straight red for a foul on Steven Fletcher that led to the Black Cats’ penalty opener. Like Colback, he’ll be unavailable for selection when the Magpies welcome Stoke to St James’ Park, though reports this evening suggest that the Tyneside team are set to appeal the decision.

Post match, Magpies manager Steve McClaren clearly felt that whistler Bobby Madley made a match-changing error:

“It’s simple: he’s wrong in my opinion. Referees are part and parcel of the game and you control your performance – you can’t control the opponent or the referee and they can affect the result, and they have done today, not so much the opponent, but definitely the referee.”

McClaren’s opposite number, Sam Allardyce, also reckoned the dismissal was a little harsh on the Argentine:

“We’ve taken full of advantage of a piece of good fortune. I did think it’s a foul, personally. I’ve had a look at it. If he hadn’t made contact with him, I think Steven Fletcher would have scored. It was on his left foot, on his best side. It [the red card] is a bit harsh, but those are the rules and we’ve taken full advantage of that today. We had a harsh decision go against us last week, this week it went for us. I thought it was a penalty. The fortunate thing is the sending off”.

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Everton veteran Gareth Barry were both given their marching orders for two bookable offences but also fulfil their obligations in midweek cup matches. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is unconcerned over Barry’s midweek absence for a home clash with Norwich, claiming “he was going to be rested anyway”.

Sadio Mane was sent off in a farcical turn of events at Anfield, entering the referee’s notebook twice in stoppage time after bagging an equaliser in the 85th minute. Much to the relief of his 9% ownership, the Senegal international serves his time when Saints play host to Aston Villa in the League Cup, returning for a tasty home fixture against the Cherries.

Elsewhere on the Tightrope, Jonjo Shelvey edged one step closer to a brief spell on the sidelines, earning his fourth yellow of the season. Ciaran Clark, Eliaquim MangalaMatteo Darmian, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele AlliMark Noble, Erik Lamela and Claudio Yacob make up the numbers in a ten-strong band of miscreants.

Dwight Gayle completed his one-match ban and returns to Crystal Palace’s squad for their home encounter against Manchester United next Gameweek. With Connor Wickham still uncertain to recover in time from a calf complaint, the 5.1-priced marksman is likely to lead the line ahead of Fraizer Campbell and Patrick Bamford.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

For those of us in paid manager of the month leagues, will next weekend count as October or November or will it be split?

Yeah, whatever day it starts on! We have a fiver a man one. 15 of us in it. Guy marginally ahead of me this month loves taking hits. He got lucky with double WBA defence (McAuley & Dawson) and also Payet on for Walcott. Git!!! 🙂

So many choices for forwards this week going off form &/or fixture Ighalo(WHM), Kane(AVL), Pelle(BOU), Vardy(wba), Bony(NOR), Lukaku(sun) (Martial for the optimists). Tricky WC week imo.

    Cech Schwarzer
    Azpi Kolarov Bellerin Cedric Saylor
    Sanchez KDB Sterling Mane Mahrez
    Pelle Sakho Ighalo

    2FT 1.2TB

I'm thinking of doing Azpi + Sakho to Moreno + Lukaku (at the end of the week)

Anything else you would do? Keeping Sterling ok?

Poor decision by FPL to give that assist to Danny Rose. The ball after his shot hit defender first, then hit Dembele, then the defender again and only then Dembele got the possession of the ball and scored the goal.
This situation resembles last week's Pelle / VvD (only defender instead of the post), but the outcome is different.

Many strange calls on assists as always, sagna should have had an assist on citys first goal last week

The Sagna one was correct. It was not a shot on target to be counted as an assist, and the deflection off the goalkeeper was massive and crucial.

How risky is no City attack(Or does Kolarov count?) vs Norwich. Can get KDB for Ayew for free, but Ayew's 2 games after are great.

A second? Christ, they must be bad. My other mids are Mahrez, Sanchez, Mane and Payet 🙁

And my strike-force is Lukaku, Martial, Vardy. Not getting KDB means benching Ayew vs Arsenal. Getting KDB for Ayew means benching one of the others. Really stumped

I am desperate to buy Payet. My midfield at this moment is

Alexis - KDB - Ayew - Mahrez (the 5th midfielder never plays).

I have the money to bring anyone out. I also have Vardy (Leicester coverage)
I can't play 3-5-2 because of Pelle and the easy fixture.

    What would you recommend?

I don't think Martial is particularly overrated. A lot here don't have him compared to before the Sunderland match. He's a victim of circumstance playing on the wing, but think he's capable of producing points in these coming fixtures, and it's not like he'll permanently be out wide from now. He might end up being overrated, but think it's too early to judge him. Now has a great run of games to justify the faith.

I would add Toure to the overrated list, as well as Liverpool defence

Chamakh got 11 goals for Arsenal in half a season. It's not hard. Remember Rickie Lambert? How many goals and assists did he get for Southampton? Is Pelle better than him? Are they bad players, no, but so many people here try to talk up these average players. I'm surprised the consensus isn't they're bang average.

Form, fixtures and is there a good midfield alternative or not help make my mind up.

I think we can safely discount Chelsea for now but all of the above have strong midfield alternatives in Mahrez, KDB and to a lesser extent Sterling. Meanwhile, Pelle has Mane, Barkley is strong for Everton and Kane has Eriksen.

I think a better way to look at top 3 strikers is to also consider whether you want to double up with a midfielder from the same team or are happy to take the midfielder as an alternative.

Of all the strikers and mid alternatives I think KDB is the best Man City option, Vardy the best Leicester and Kane the best Spurs.

So for me it would be Vardy, Kane and Lukaku....altthough personally I own Bony, Vardy, Kane as I'm ok with doubling up and have KDB and Mahrez.

Hard to look beyond Vardy, Lukaku and Pelle at present. Bony has never been consistent at CTY, Kane was handed goals at woeful BTH who he won't face every week and Costa just isn't worth the money..or the aggro you get when owning him.

The better argument is which five midfielders to own at present?

The fifth midfielder is a real tricky affair: Mane/Mata/Ozil/Barkley/Eriksen

...providing of course you have Mahrez/Payet/KGB/Sanchez combo.

There was an article early in season about it
Think at least two and it showed the teams and likely opponents

Done. Had to build a time machine as well just to travel 2 minutes back in time. 😆

Talk Talk servers must be pretty powerful if they can send messages 2 minutes into the past. Screw BT, sign me up with them! 😆

Why do you want to get rid of Martial?
I know he isn't ripping up trees but heard he looked good yesterday..... if he was shifted back to central striker then he'd be a bargain.

Kane. Only because I'm about to get Barkley too.

Tossing up a few options for later in the week
    A) Martial > Lukaku, playing 343
    B) Mahrez > Barkley, 343
    C) Westwood > Barkley, 352

Any other thoughts?? Best move - 1FT, 3.9m in the bank

    Butland
    Bellerin / Dawson / Kolarov
    Sanchez / Payet / KDB / Mahrez
    Pelle / Bony / Vardy

    4.0; Williams / Westwood / Ward

      You're set.

Could sell your keeper. As a Butland owner he's not keeping any clean sheets

Seeing as Everton fixtures turn good, would you double up with barkley and lukaku?

Or is it better to get man u coverage with mata?
My problem is i just dont rate man u that highly so i could even go with ozil

so the question im asking is - walcott >>>
    1. barkley (already have lukaku)
    2. ozil
    3. mata
