Five players toppled off the Suspension Tightrope this Gameweek, as James Milner, Jeffrey Schlupp, Erik Pieters, Fernandinho and Jack Colback totted up their fifth cautions of the campaign and incurred a one-match ban.

Fortunately for the former quartet, they will serve out their suspensions in Capital One Cup clashes in midweek. Colback, on the other hand, misses Newcastle’s home tie against Stoke next Gameweek as the Magpies were knocked out in the previous round of the competition by Sheffield Wednesday. The midfielder was already a doubt for the Potters clash anyway, after he was forced off early in the second period due to a challenge from Lee Cattermole – early reports indicate he left the stadium on crutches.

In terms of other new suspensions, Fabricio Coloccini received a straight red for a foul on Steven Fletcher that led to the Black Cats’ penalty opener. Like Colback, he’ll be unavailable for selection when the Magpies welcome Stoke to St James’ Park, though reports this evening suggest that the Tyneside team are set to appeal the decision.

Post match, Magpies manager Steve McClaren clearly felt that whistler Bobby Madley made a match-changing error:

“It’s simple: he’s wrong in my opinion. Referees are part and parcel of the game and you control your performance – you can’t control the opponent or the referee and they can affect the result, and they have done today, not so much the opponent, but definitely the referee.”

McClaren’s opposite number, Sam Allardyce, also reckoned the dismissal was a little harsh on the Argentine:

“We’ve taken full of advantage of a piece of good fortune. I did think it’s a foul, personally. I’ve had a look at it. If he hadn’t made contact with him, I think Steven Fletcher would have scored. It was on his left foot, on his best side. It [the red card] is a bit harsh, but those are the rules and we’ve taken full advantage of that today. We had a harsh decision go against us last week, this week it went for us. I thought it was a penalty. The fortunate thing is the sending off”.

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Everton veteran Gareth Barry were both given their marching orders for two bookable offences but also fulfil their obligations in midweek cup matches. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is unconcerned over Barry’s midweek absence for a home clash with Norwich, claiming “he was going to be rested anyway”.

Sadio Mane was sent off in a farcical turn of events at Anfield, entering the referee’s notebook twice in stoppage time after bagging an equaliser in the 85th minute. Much to the relief of his 9% ownership, the Senegal international serves his time when Saints play host to Aston Villa in the League Cup, returning for a tasty home fixture against the Cherries.

Elsewhere on the Tightrope, Jonjo Shelvey edged one step closer to a brief spell on the sidelines, earning his fourth yellow of the season. Ciaran Clark, Eliaquim MangalaMatteo Darmian, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele AlliMark Noble, Erik Lamela and Claudio Yacob make up the numbers in a ten-strong band of miscreants.

Dwight Gayle completed his one-match ban and returns to Crystal Palace’s squad for their home encounter against Manchester United next Gameweek. With Connor Wickham still uncertain to recover in time from a calf complaint, the 5.1-priced marksman is likely to lead the line ahead of Fraizer Campbell and Patrick Bamford.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

Remove Yaya tonight or wait? Will he fall in price tonight?

Mind to tell me the reason you want to remove Yaya? Some people suggested to me he is the next best after KdB from the City midfield.

Slow on the pitch. Doesn't look to have the same energy as Ozil and Mane.

I don't own Sterling. Took Yaya in for Silva last GW on a hit, useless since he only gave 1p. And today he just didn't seem to have the energy or will to win.

Looking for a more attacking midfielder.

            Got any suggestions?

Chasing points much? I've noticed this here. After a decent GW bandwagons accumulate very quickly.

Best recent example is Costa. He was hot property again after scoring goal. another blank and he's rubbish again.

This weeks new bandwagons: Mane and Kane

Basically keep Yaya. He has scored and is playing in the hole against two of the weakest teams in the league. Dont kneejerk because he had one bad game. No one was great in that derby today

This will give me the opportunity to focus on replacing Jagielka, if he's out long-term.

              Thank you again.

Even if he doesnt play in the hole he is the most attacking 'pivot' player in the league if not the game. He takes set pieces and is on penalties while Kun is out

    Cech ( Hennessey )
Clyne, Azpi, Dawson ( Sagna, Oxford )
Mahrez, Ayew, Payet, Sanchez ( Sinclair )
    Vardy, Martial, Pelle

No City attack is worrying. Ayew > KDB is probably the most boring thing you could do. Azpi > VvD and Sinclair > KDB if you dont want to get rid of Ayew.

    Butland, Schmeichel
    Kolarov, Evans, Alderweireld, Huth, Targett
    Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mahrez, Westwood
    Costa, Pelle, Ighalo

    1FT, £2.8m ITB.

I really would like to do Pelle to Vardy. Unfortunately I have too many Leicester players. Is it worth the -4 to ditch either Huth or Schmeichel to get in Vardy?

    Sanchez, KDB, Mata, Barkley (Mahrez)
    Lukaku, Vardy, Pelle

Thoughts? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Nice side, pretty similar to my wildcard draft.

          De Gea Hennessey

Bellerin Coleman Van Dijk Nyom Moreno
          Sanchez, KDB, Mane, Mahrez, Drinkwater
          Lukaku, Vardy, Bony is mine

I think a lot of it is flipping a coin, however I don't like the mata pick as LVG seems intent on subbing him off after 65 mins every game/ Mane seems to play very attacking for the saints

Also think you're going to have some real headscratching moments in terms of midfield and attack selection, much prefer having a 4.5 mid myself but that's just me

I'm not to worried about Mata as it'll be easy to downgrade him later if it isn't working out. Someone will have to go to free up Aguero funds anyway.

Yeah, I'd normally prefer a cheaper mid too. I do still have the AOA chip though and at least this way I'll be able to see who is/isn't performing before I drop them.

Like the Van Dijk and Nyom picks btw.

Yeah, that's my main worry. At the same time, I don't own Payet as is so I'd have to pay full value for him anyway. I'm thinking it might be worth risking the likes of Barkley and Mata over him for now and (if they let me down) just get him in later. With Payet's more difficult fixtures it might pay off?

I've decided to finally get Payet on a FT over Barkley. Payet is central to everything West Ham do and his goal threat stats have really improved of late as well. He's not just going to be an assist machine.

Will West Ham's form continue though? Tougher fixtures coming up and they're hardly going to maintain top four form all season...

Howard has looked bad this season, really sluggish to the ball. Lloris has a really good defence ahead of him, makes world class saves on par with de gea

West Brom were very lucky to keep out Norwich, I watched the game. Some of it was schoolboy defending. Myhill had a great game.

Am pretty confident playing both Mahrez/Vardy and may bench Dawson for Azpi (LIV)

      1. davies

They usually allow their keeper to make heaps of saves, for some reason. Instead of not letting them shoot.

I'm still playing Myhill over Butland, but expecting 3 points from him.

i have no problem playing mahrez & vardy & myhill. for no other fixture you'd bench them. why suddenly when they are playing against each other?

you'll Never get cs from all of your defs & attacking points from all of your mids/fwds. and that's the Only reason you're not playing them all =D because they all cant have a success.

Its about trying to predict a result and then maximise your points ceiling. Thats why a more aggressive points getting approach is to not play your defenders against your attackers.

    Defence is:

    Myhill (Hennessey)
    Bellerin Janmaat Dawson (Francis Mariappa)

Should I do Dawson to Smalling now before his rise? It means I won't be able to afford Costa to Aguero in one transfer.

      Your offense look really good.

If you really want to do something, maybe you can bolster you defense a bit.

      Its not really necessary though.
