Our regular Friday members article comes around again, as we focus on the main captaincy contenders in accordance with our Captain Poll. We take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Kevin De Bruyne (31%) is the firm favourite to sport the skipper’s armband in Gameweek 11. The Belgium international notched a goal and an assist during Manchester City’s League Cup win over Crystal Palace and boasts three goals and as many assists in five leagues starts, illuminating his fine form this term. The Sky Blues play host to a Norwich outfit that’s failed to register a single clean sheet, so it’s no surprise that Wilfried Bony (9%; two goals and one assist in last two) is strongly fancied, though Raheem Sterling (1%) could be a differential candidate after grabbing a hat-trick in his last home outing.

Despite drawing blanks in his previous two league outings, Graziano Pelle enjoys 15% of the vote ahead of Southampton’s home tie against a Bournemouth backline that’s conceded ten times in the last two Gameweeks. The 8.4-priced forward netted for the Saints in midweek and has not gone longer than two starts without delivering attacking returns this campaign. The favourable nature of Southampton’s match-up also brings Sadio Mane (4%) – who’s carded three goals in four starts – into the captain conversation.

Harry Kane (10%) lies in third place in the wake of his hat-trick against Bournemouth last time out. Spurs’ chief frontman will fancy his chances of scoring in successive matches for the first time this season, given that a home clash against Aston Villa – who’ve shipped eight goals in their previous quartet of road encounters – is next on the agenda.

Romelu Lukaku rounds off the top five with 5% of the vote. The Belgian marksman tallied five goals through a ten-match stretch that included eight of last season’s top 10 sides, so he’s well placed to flourish as Everton embark on a favourable run through to the New Year. First up is a home clash against Sunderland, who shipped 12 goals in their last five away fixtures.

Alexis Sanchez (5%) slips down the rankings following his blank against Everton last weekend. The 11.6-priced midfielder has netted six goals in his last four starts and is pitted against a Swansea City defence that’s earned just one clean sheet since Gameweek 3.

Jamie Vardy (3%) and Eden Hazard (2%) are closely contesting the lower spots in our top 10, despite their conflicting form. The former has chalked up nine goals in his last seven starts but could be thwarted by a West Bromwich Albion outfit that has recorded five shut-outs in their previous seven. The latter, meanwhile, has just one goal and two assists to his name as the Blues prepare to lock horns with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

    Hi All,

    Ayew or Mahrez to KDB?

    Ayew has Norwich and Bournemouth next plus I have Vardy so leaning towards selling Mahrez.

    Rest of team:

    Butland
    Monreal / Dawson / Cedric
    Sanchez / Ayew / Mahrez / Mane
    Vardy / Martial / Bony

    Subs: Ruddy / Anya / Richards / Saylor

          Of course, but form and confidence are a big part of future points. He runs that midfield and is the focal point of their attack. His stats back up his returns, it's not luck. One could argue with his amount of key passes he's actually been unlucky not to have even more points.

            You could also say that most of his goals have been the result of making some luck via rebounds and the like.

              You don't get 7.1 ppg and 21 key passes over 10 weeks from lucky rebounds. I'm not saying he will continue his form forever but there's nothing in stats, fixtures or his general play to suggest it's coming imminently.

                The 7.1 should be under 6 by just taking away 2 goals.

          They might, but he has proven at OM that he can create chances throughout whole seasons. Maybe he will slow down because there is no winter break in England around january, but until he actually slows down I wouldn't want to remove him from my team.

      When deciding on him vs/ Ozil last week, the one thing that stuck with me was that he is the star man at WH and is/will be pretty central to a lot they do well. I think Bilic has been given a mandate to get them scoring goals after BFS and ahead of moving to the Olympic Stadium.

      He'll be involved more often than not...whereas with someone like Ozil - he will share points more frequently. Not a problem when they're scoring 3 every game...but more so when they see a lean spell.

      I decided I was going to drop one of him and Mahrez. In the end I dropped Mahrez as their fixtures take a turn for the worse in a few weeks, they're not as good a team, he's a rotation risk and Vardy arguably provides a better route into their attack anyway. Payet is the only West Ham player to own...

    A) Fabianski to DDG for free

              Ye, he's a good pick. I think the difference between the two is that Mahrez will tick along with the odd assist most weeks when he's not scoring. I'm not actively looking to double him up with Pelle but it could easily work out well with their fixtures.

        Would you do A as well or you think West Brom can still get CS with their terrible fixtures coming up. If you was going to replace Evans would VVD be your man?

      I'm happy with 4 playing defenders, I wouldn't like to waste a transfer there. If I was going to work on my bench I'd ship Westwood since he's not nailed any more.

      I also have Diouf and am tempted to go for Kane. Giroud will tick along nicely, but with some tough fixtures coming up and so much competition from other strikers I would say nay.

      It's ballsy, I give you that. Who are your other forwards?

      1. Gooner Kebab

        Pelle and Vardy. Not entirely convinced with either of three, Bony, Lukaku or Kane.

        The article above shows promising stats for Arsenal and Wally is out, hence Giroud.

          He did look sharp last week. But Swansea always performs well against Arsenal, they play Bayern midweek and a decent Spurs side next weekend. Lots of injuries, Joel Campbell is playing RW and Giroud links up terribly with Sanchez.

          It might work out, but I wouldn't expect braces and hattricks to be honest.

    Have both KDB and Pelle - with all the votes going for a KDB captain, am I crazy thinking of going for Pelle instead?
    I Kobe he misses more than scores, but his effort is great and against Bournemouth??
    Should I really go with the rest like a sheep?

      KDB for sure. I think the Pelle votes have been swayed by the back to back 5-1 losses, I can't see the same happening again.

    2.3 ITB with Sanchez and De Bruyne. Already pretty set on getting Aguero back in when I need to, just need to downgrade one of Eriksen or Ayew 🙂

    What's better:

    A: to buy any defender (already have 1 from City and 1 from Southampton... thinking probably Bellerin or Smalling)

    B: to buy any 7.6 midfielder (already have Vardy, so not so sure about also getting Mahrez...)

    Begovic butland
    Kolarov Toby Evans Francis bassong
    Sanchez kdb payet mahrez wanyama
    Pelle martial Vardy

    What do I do?

    A. Martial --> lukaku
    B. Martial --> Kane
    C. Martial --> Giroud
    D. Wanyama --> mane and play aoa chip
    E. Evans/bassong --> bellerin

    Transfers made.. decided on Hazard + Fabianski to DDG + Ozil with my 2 FTs.. Hopefully i can save my transfer next week

    DDG (Hennessey)
    Bertrand Janmaat Dawson (Simpson Moreno)
    Sanchez Yaya(C) KDB Mane(vc) Ozil
    Pelle Ighalo (Vardy)
    2.0 in the bank

    Few risks in there with my starting 11 but this looks like a good week to take some risks.
