Gerard Deulofeu scores three times for Spain Under 21s. Yannick Bolasie notches for DR Congo, Alexis Sanchez fails to net in a 90-minute run out for Chile, whilst Sadio Mane and Jamie Vardy are both doubts ahead of today’s batch of internationals.

In-Form Deulofeu Hits Hat-Trick

Gerard Deulofeu bagged a hat-trick – which included a free-kick and two clinical finishes – for Spain’s U21 outfit as they ran out 5-0 victors over Georgia.

The Scout Says: The imminent return of Sergio Aguero has many a Fantasy manager ruminating on how best to redistribute their funds to afford the Argentine. To that end, Deulofeu has emerged as a potential enabler by virtue of his impressive form and 6.2 valuation. The La Masia graduate boasts one goal and six assists in the previous six Gameweeks and has been translating that form over to the international stage, chalking up three goals and a trio of assists in as many outings. Further strengthening his case for inclusion in our squads, the Toffees now embark on an excellent run of fixtures (AVL, bou, CRY, nor, LEI, new, STO) through to the New Year, with Deulofeu now looking the best route into the Toffees midfield as the points dry up for Ross Barkley.

Palace Midfielders Find the Net

Yannick Bolasie opened the scoring for DR Congo in their 3-2 win against Burundi. Meanwhile, Eagles team-mate Mile Jedinak slotted home a spot-kick during Australia’s 3-0 victory over Kyrgzstan.

The Scout Says: Whilst Jedinak will likely be handed another bench role upon his return to domestic duties, Bolasie scored last time out against Liverpool and is certainly worth keeping tabs on in appreciation of Palace’s agreeable schedule (SUN, NEW, eve, SOU, sto, bou). Over the last two Gameweeks, the winger ranks top of the Eagles’ midfield contingent for attempts (four), shots inside the box (four) and shots on target (two). Furthermore, he could benefit from the potential return of strike duo Connor Wickham and Marouane Chamakh next Gameweek – furnishing the Londoners with a focal point they can build from. It’s worth nothing, however, that Palace have scored just six goals at home this campaign and three of their next four match-ups are held at Selhurst Park. Nonetheless, with both Yohan Cabaye and Wilfried Zaha just one booking away from a ban, Bolasie’s appeal is definitely on the up.

Sanchez Blanks in Chile Stalemate

Alexis Sanchez played from start to finish in Chile’s home draw with Colombia last night. The winger now faces a trip to Uruguay on Tuesday and, according to reports in The Mirror, could be handed a much-needed rest in the “not-too-distant future”, given his abbreviated pre-season and subsequent energy-sapping trips to South America on international duty.

The Scout Says: Given that the Gunners are neck and neck with Manchester City in the title race and are contending with a bevy of injuries on the flanks, it appears highly unlikely that Sanchez will be rested in the immediate future. Following a typically busy Christmas schedule, though, Arsene Wenger might well elect to rest the former Barcelona star between Gameweeks 20 and 21 – when the FA Cup third round fixtures are scheduled to take place – which would give him 10 days to recuperate before a trip to Anfield. There’s no doubt Sanchez’ displays have tailed off in recent outings, with the Chilean drawing blanks in each of the previous three Gameweeks, but with West Brom, Norwich, Sunderland and Villa up next, Wenger can ill-afford to take his foot off the gas at the summit. Certainly, those looking for an alternative route into the Arsenal midfield will be more swayed by Mesut Ozil’s displays – over 124,000 FPL managers have snapped up the consistent German this week, who has scored or assisted in eight of his 11 league appearances.

Vardy a Worry for Three Lions

Roy Hodgson revealed that Jamie Vardy has picked up a knock and could be set to miss England’s friendly against Spain this evening:

“We are monitoring the injury and working on it, but it looks unlikely that he will be able to play (against Spain)”

The Scout Says: Vardy required treatment in the second half of Leicester’s home tie against Watford last time out before returning to the field to score a penalty soon after. Given this evening’s clash is a friendly fixture, it may well be that Hodgson is simply taking no unnecessary risks with the forward’s fitness, though any possible injury would have a significant effect on his 53% FPL ownership. Casting our attention to next Gameweek, a refreshed Vardy would be an ominous prospect for a Newcastle United outfit as he looks to score for the tenth successive league match against a side that ranks second for goals conceded (13) over the last six Gameweeks.

Mane Doubtful for Senegal

Sadio Mane is a doubt for Senegal’s World Cup qualifier against Madagascar this morning due to an ankle injury. Elsewhere in the Saints camp, Maya Yoshida netted in Japan’s 3-0 win over Singapore.

The Scout Says: Mane lies just outside the top 10 midfielders in term of total score (55) this campaign, having notched three goals and five assists across 12 outings. The Senegalese winger carded three goals and an assist between Gameweeks 7 and 10 but has since posted back-to-back blanks. Nonetheless, Mane still managed six attempts and five shots inside the box during that period, so his 10% ownership will be hoping for a swift recovery ahead of Saints’ enticing home clash against Stoke City. Yoshida’s strike for the Samurai Blue marks his second goal for club and country in the last fortnight, given that he scored against Aston Villa in the League Cup. Priced at 4.2, the versatile defender would serve as a tantalising route into Southampton’s rearguard if he was assured starts, though it remains to be seen if he can keep ahead of Cedric Soares at right-back, after earning the nod away to Sunderland in the previous Gameweek.

Sessegnon Nets in Benin Win

West Brom wide man Stephane Sessegnon converted from the penalty spot as Benin recorded a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso yesterday afternoon.

The Scout Says: Once a cult icon on the Fantasy scene, Sessegnon’s star has faded in recent seasons due to injuries and a manifest drop in form. The 5.1-priced midfielder has earned four successive starts for the Baggies, though, and grabbed an assist in Gameweek 11. That being said, his underlying statistics over that period (four attempts and as many key passes) are unimpressive and West Brom face a tough schedule (ARS, whu, TOT, liv), so Sessegnon will very much remain on the periphery of our thinking.

Amavi Worry for Villa

Jordan Amavi sustained a knee injury during France U21’s Euro 2017 qualifier against Northern Ireland. In a post-match interview, coach Pierre Mankowski was uncertain over the extent of his injury:

“Doctors are trying to look after him. According to the first information available it would be a knee sprain. It is not yet known whether the ligament is ruptured. It’s too early to tell.”

The Scout Says: In the event that Amavi has ruptured ligaments and faces a lengthy spell in the treatment room, the 4.2-priced Kieran Richardson would be the likely replacement for the young Frenchman. Notwithstanding Villa’s clean sheet at home to Manchester City last Gameweek, the difficulty of their fixture list (eve, WAT, sou, ARS) and dreadful form prior to the Sky Blues’ visit limits our interest in their rearguard assets.

Son Creativity Guides Korea to Win

Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son came on at the 63-minute mark for South Korea yesterday, and wasted little time in making his mark by carding two assists in a routine 4-0 home thrashing of Myanmar. Swansea’s Ki Sung-yeung played from start to finish for the host nation.

The Scout Says: Considering that Erik Lamela incurred a one-match ban for receiving his fifth booking in the North London derby, Heung-Min Son looks likely to be handed a starting berth when West Ham pay visit after the international break. Although the South Korean netted in just his second league start, his Fantasy potential is severely hampered by his classification as a forward. Moreover, Lamela’s strong displays of late ensure that Son will have to make a statement against the Hammers to retain a spot on the flank for Chelsea’s visit the following Gameweek. Ultimately, those eyeing up Tottenham’s attack ahead of four home matches in six will be hard-pushed to overlook Harry Kane, who has racked up five goals and eight bonus points in the last three Gameweeks.

    Best Bad Luck Stories

In honour of today being Friday the 13th we're looking for your tales of outrageous misfortune.

Personally I remember bringing in Dzeko and Kompany for a hit in GW16 last year only to see Dzeko get injured in the warm up and Kompany limp off with a hamstring injury during the game. There was also an Aguero (c) Silva (vc) gameweek a few years ago when the Man City game was postponed.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who can trump those though...

Final weekend of the 2008/09 FPL season, my mini-league with considerable cash prize was very close. When the matches finished, it looked like I'd won my league by ONE POINT thanks to a Dirk Kuyt goal. However, the scores were adjusted and it was changed to an own goal giving him three points rather than five. So instead, I lost my mini-league by ONE POINT.

      Argh.

Well, my point is that that was an incredibly risky move (for a hit was complete madness imo). I posted on here frequently that I thought Bony would be a disappointment, so I don't think you can say it's bad luck. See my post below, I think most bad decisions are, for one reason or another, avoidable. Most aren't really bad luck.

Instances like players getting injured in the warm up are bad luck.

agreed. It was a risky move, but that's how I have always played, and will continue to do so.

Could've been all so different though. Bony has generally proved to be a very good finisher throughout his career, and he had a number of chances in the first game.

And the injury early in the 2nd game was bad luck.

But I agree that all decisions are avoidable 😉

....and before you go on about your rank again 13k ain't that high. Being 2nd in the world after 30 odd games last season however is what I would consider fairly high, achieved by several Bony-like punts.

Play your way Pompey - I probably wouldn't have shifted Vardy myself but no problem shifting another for the striker of the top team v the bottom one who had scored in the week.

                Just garbage talked above...

Very good Irish - but would prefer a comment on what was said about Bony and luck which I find laughable. If the guy was garbage for 90 minutes then fine. Nobody else did anything for City in an attacking sense v United or Villa.

Wouldn't normally get heated but hearing an awful lot about how 'well' he is doing lately.

The captain / vice captain thing is poor planning IMO Green Windmill. Part of the reason for having a vice captain is if games get cancelled.

I genuinely can't think of any bad luck I've had really. I mean, you could count things like captaining Mahrez and he handed Vardy the penalty, but I guess you possibly could have foreseen that situation. I've had players who have had loads of attempts, hit the woodwork frequently etc, and players getting injured, but I think most times I've done badly have been, at least partly, my fault.

      Where do I start...

Every time I bring in players straight after a game to beat the price rises, someone else in my squad gets injured in the week so I have to take a hit. I find this happens even more if it's over an international break. I'm just so unlucky.

Seriously though, I had Giroud (c) when he got sent off v qpr. The fortunate thing about that was my rival did the same so it could have been worse. Still ruined my Christmas

GW1, not a single player does any better than 2 points (not even 3!) and I get 18 overall, by far my worst start.

In my work ML in 2013/14, a significant prize was at stake, I was second in my ML after making up 75 points in the past 4 Gameweeks.

I was following the scores closely, and as it stood, at 90 minutes I had won! Our scores were tied and victory would have been mine based on transfers.

Then Aguero got a yellow card (Stupidly in the centre of the pitch),

      I finished 690th, he finished 672nd.

      Still bitter.

Giroud for his brilliant negative pointer.

Absolute idiotic move 2 weeks ago.

Was... a bit drunk. Meant to sell Payet for Sterling (before Payet's injury); sold Mahrez FOR a hit instead.
Sterling scored 3. Mahrez scored 15.

      So. Oops.

Happened last year on boxing day.

Rooney was playing vs Newcastle and I had armband on Sanchez.

Half on hour before deadline I got briliant idea. Took a hit to do Rooney -> Giroud and captain him.

Rooney scored 2 goals and 1 assist (16 points)
Giroud (c) got red card (-4)
Sanchez scored 1 goal + baps (10 points)

Wilson had about 2 shots in the first 2 gameweeks and Diouf had loads. Sold Wilson to Diouf for -4 feeling very confident, then Cresswell and Jenkinson gifted Wilson 17 points. Wilson would then score in the next gameweek and Diouf blanked three weeks in a row.

Probably not bad luck, more bad management this one. I sold Lampard the week that he scored 4 against Villa in 2010.

what def stands out is being third in my mini league going into double GW (35 I think) two years ago - the top two had not captained a DGW player and only had like 3 players due to come on twice

I captained Aguero, who got injured in 7 minutes or something, and of my 8 players playing twice, only one got more than 6 points.

I finished on a lower weekly score than either of the top two, and to make matters worse, most of the people behind me had made Toure captain, who promptly got 20 plus points. I went from thinking I was nailed on to win the league, to outside of the top 10

So I was at work on a saturday (!) last season and I badly wanted to get Walters bc he was playing up top for Stoke. But unfortunately it was the end of the month and the allocated data for the office for the month was over and the mobile data connection was really bad.
I somehow transferred Walters in but he was on the bench. I tried and tried and tried but couldn't get him in the XI. And guess what, he scored a hatty that day. Still hurts.

Well apart from that, there has many including the classic Giroud (C) -4 , getting Bony (C) for Ighalo and so on. But nothing tops the Walters one.

Sunderland have given away a lot of pens, especially against bolasie/zaha can see it happening. Is it worth AOA? Have bellerin and Kompany too (can see one of the 2 not plying)

Given how poorly his injuries have been managed in the past, is it really worth getting Aguero in pre Liverpool? Even if he's confirmed fit, he could easily start from the bench. City lacked a clinical edge vs Villa away with no Aguero but I don't feel the need to rush Aguero into my team and take hits.

    Thoughts?

I wont bring him for Liverpool but I expect to bring him in soon. Maybe by gw14/15. But I understand your point, it is still too much of unknown. Probably best wait till the around next Thursday and Friday for more information

Need some advice guys. Want to bring Aguero in
    Would you
    A) martial + Pell> Aguero + Ighalo for -4
B)De bruyne + Kolarov > Eriksen/Coutinho/Yaya + Rojo for -4 and then bring aguero in next week for Martial. This will also allow me to bring Lukaku in 2 weeks for Pelle

The thing about Ighalo is I just can't see him sustaining the form he's been in and those striker spots are too precious to get wrong. He's cheap though that's the problem.

If you could have three strikers until January, which three would you have?

note, this is for The Sun game but mini league cash up for grabs.

Currently Aguero, Sanchez, Kane. But Lukaku's fixtures, form, lack of rotation and increased opportunity in my opinion to get the Star Man bonus points mean I am thinking about ditching either Aguero or Sanchez for him.

    Thoughts?

        Cheers for the reply gents.

I know.. City are through already (although I know they'll want top spot) and have Hull at home in League Cup so Aguero may get rested more than the rest. Though the paper talk about Alexis rested as well..

I may just have to get Barkley as Everton cover. Or use a risky strategy or selling Aguero but leave enough in bank to use the emergency transfer to get Aguero back if need be.

I have Ivanovic as well (minus points total in November!) but strangely thinking about keeping him with their fixtures, he'll surely go straight back in. I may be asking foir trouble in that one, but as I'm chasing a lead I don't want to end up with a similar team to others and they definitely won't buy him ha
