Our next members article of the international break assesses the impact of Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool during his first four league matches in charge at Anfield. The former Borussia Dortmund boss had enjoyed a solid start to life on Merseyside, staying unbeaten in his first six matches in charge across all competitions, before suffering a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace last time out.

Scoring goals had been as issue for Liverpool under previous manager Brendan Rodgers at the start of the season, with the Merseysiders managing just eight in as many league matches. That record has only slighted improved under the German, registering five goals in their last four matches, although they have faced fairly difficult opposition (tot, SOU, che) prior to their home loss at the hands of Palace.

With that in mind, we investigate the team data in the members section to try to establish Klopp’s impact over the first four league matches of his tenure on Merseyside.

Darmian played a lot of mins ,he has to be a doubt to start with Ashley young knocking and Flat face willing to bench him

Cedric may not start too. You risk 1 point cameo with both.

Who are the teams to have in your defence from now until January? Arsenal, Spurs, Utd, Chelsea, Southampton, Everton & City all have either form or fixtures but picking 3 from those isn't easy, or 4 if you include a keeper. Rojo, Bert & Bell atm for me.

Regarding this article. Don't be misled by the 2 stats shining a positive light on Lovren over Sakho.

Lovren has won 71% of headed duels versus Sakho's 60%. What is key here is the fact that Sakho attempts to win more headers per game. Lovren has an awful habit of either not being positionally aware enough to be in the right spot to challenge for the header.

Sakho has attempted to win 30 headers in 7 starts (4.3 per game). Lovren 21 attempts in 5 games (4.2 per game). Even though Lovren has won marginally more, I would much rather have Sakho in there challenging for them in a positive, aggressive fashion, than Lovren going in for one in a half-hearted, lily livered manner. Just look at the early season Bournemouth match at Anfield where Lovren was outmuscled in the aerial duel only to luckily have his clean sheet preserved by essentially conning the referee into awarding a foul against him.

And yes, Lovren comes in slightly ahead of Sakho in tackles won. What this doesn't take into account is the awful, awful habit of diving into tackles when not necessary. His % of missed tackles is less but this particular stat does not take into account the catastrophic consequences of those missed tackles in exposing his defensive colleagues. Sakho's ability to judge when and when not to dive (and jockey) the opponent instead is crucial to why I rate him the superior centre back. Lovren's performance at home to West Ham and away to Utd (not to mention twice Vs Palace last season) were the worst I've seen since the halcyon days of Phil Babb, Torben Picnic or Glenn Hysen!!!

Sakho carries the ball out far better, passes far better, sets up attacks better, has more composure, looks less nervous,

Sakho has attempted 412 passes Vs Lovren's 227 (started 2 games more). The % success rate is 91 Vs 85 even though he has attempted twice as many.

Stats are stats. I find them a bit boring personally 🙂 but know how useful they can be. To me aka my eyes), Sakho is by far Liverpool's best centre back. I hope Lovren improves under Klopp and does well as a stand in. But in Sakho, Liverpool and Klopp have on their hands, potentially one of the world's top CBs in the not-too-distant future.

      IN MY OPINION 😉

I think it's the fact that FFS opinion is that Sakho is equally as crap as Lovren. Which is way off.

Fair enough. Plenty on here tend to judge on nothing but stats as you said, and if Lovren has better stats in a couple of areas - instantly he must be better in their eyes.

I don't think Sakho is this world class monster of a defender that some seem to think. Not yet anyway, but undoubtedly Pool's best defender.

imo it could of been debated last season as neither were exactly covering themselves in glory..

respect were its due Sakho has looked a different player under Klopp very much improved

also Rodgers bought the wrong Saints CB at the time.. Fonte was head and shoulders above Lovren and as a consequence made Lovren appear solid imo.. Fonte is brilliant

things really starting to click for Poch and its great to see.. quite a reserved summer transfer window by Spurs standards has been a master stroke imo and exactly what they needed to really bring on the talent they had already..

Yep, doesn't cause a stir and calmly gets on with his job. His policy to nurture the youth he has at his disposal and obvious aversion to 'big names' is quite refreshing. Our performance against Arsenal was a real litmus test of how far he has taken this team in terms of attitude, mentality and general play

they look a different animal alright and i think the signing of Alder at the back and the form of Dier have been instrumental in particular.. wont get a better chance of breaking the top 4 than this season and i would be confident as a Spurs fan

I agree to a large extent, stats (specifically the ones members use) are largely inaccurate or off-base when it come to quantifying a defenders ability. There's just too many variables to take into account, ie positioning/awareness, marking, etc.

Even going into more advanced stats used in the analytics scene, you'll still find most are in agreement that defenders are very hard to judge based solely on particular algorithms & stats.

I think you can justify both but its a lot of budget. I have done better post Ageuro by getting a better balanced team than I did with Serg.

Bellerin is fine he was in training on Monday . Sanchez played last night despite carrying an injury and Wenger said he is going to give him a Christmas break so wait for pressers

            Thanks Adam.
What does Wenger mean by a Christmas break? Does this just mean rotation for the busy schedule to come?

Pfff Wenger will play his mids until they get injured in January like he always does.
By then Hazard and Fabregas have gotten their sh1ts together, so we can transfer over our Sanchez's and Ozil's.

              BM this

Happy to wait until GW15 for Kun

VVD, Bellerin, Kompany + Vardy flagged.

        Hennesey, Elliott

        Kompany, Cedric, Wollcheid, B.Davies, Hangeland

        KDB, Alexis, Wijnaldum, Ayew, Mahrez

        Pelle, Kane, Lukaku

        0 ITB, 2FT.

        Planning either
        A) B.Davis & KDB => Koscielny/Rojo & Surman/Lingard this week
        Pelle => Aguero next
        B) Kompany => Koscielny this week and play Wolly and to make a desicion on Kun transfer next based on this week's performances.

        Any advices
