Jermain Defoe grabs a late winner for Sunderland at Selhurst Park. Black Cats duo Billy Jones and Costel Pantilimon produce their second double-figure hauls in four appearances as Palace fail to score for the third time in the previous four Gameweeks.

Defoe Wins it for Black Cats

Jermain Defoe’s 80th minute strike granted Sunderland their first road win of the campaign. The 5.2-priced frontman – who was stationed alongside Steven Fletcher in a 3-5-2 set-up – capitalised on some risible defending from Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann to record his second goal in as many starts. The Black Cats’ tough schedule (STO, ars, WAT, che, mci, LIV) and his rotation risk ensure that Defoe remains a peripheral concern on the Fantasy scene, whilst his withdrawal due to an ankle problem is also a real concern for Sam Allardyce.

The Wearsiders’ triumph at Selhurst Park also produced their second clean sheet in four outings. Having assisted Defoe for the winner, Billy Jones scooped all three bonus points to bring home an 11-point return – the full-back has racked up 29 points in five appearances under Big Sam but is now set for a one-match ban after earning his fifth caution of the season.

Costel Pantilimon (4.8) tallied 10 points by virtue of two save and bonus points but is unlikely to attract investment when the likes of Boaz Myhill (4.8) and Jack Butland (4.7) are more enticing options in his price bracket. That being said, home ties against Stoke City and Watford in the next three Gameweeks are conducive to shut-outs.

Palace Home Toils Continue

Last night’s late defeat means that Alan Pardew’s side have now lost seven of their previous 11 meetings at Selhurst Park. Moreover, they rank third for shots inside the box conceded in home fixtures (62) and have managed just six goals themselves, illustrating their struggles at both ends of the pitch. As such, those Fantasy managers in possession of Newcastle United assets might be tempted to hold fire on any sales – despite their one goal in four matches – ahead of the Magpies’ trip to south London next Gameweek.

The Eagles will feel aggrieved not to have earned a result against Sunderland, given that they amassed the third most attempts (19) of any team in the Gameweek. Connor Wickham’s return to the starting line-up harvested three shots but zero on target, exposing his inevitable rustiness.

Yohan Cabaye fired off more than double the attempts (five) of any other Palace midfielder but ultimately carded his fourth blank in succession. Considering that the Frenchman has bagged just one goal and assist from open play this term (complementing his three penalties), his 15% ownership may be considering their options once the weekend home encounter with Newcastle has passed.

I'm hoping we don't win tonight.

If we win and don't qualify we go to Europa. If we win and qualify we get battered knockouts.

Rather just go for it in the Prem!

I find it hard to justify dropping Mahrez, he is just too good a player. Unlucky not to get more out of the Newcastle game!

I agree - Lanzini on the other hand looks like an amazing player and as bad as west ham played against spurs he still managed to score the best goal of the game so this decision is tough

Think it has to be one of the Leicester two considering fixtures.

My reasons for Vardy over Mahrez is even if Vardy scores Mahrez is likely to assist and this is often enough for maximum bonus points, just at like the weekend. He is every bit as "in form" as Vardy, just hasn't been closing in on a record to draw quite as much attention to it. Also somebody could maybe help with the stats, but I think Mahrez % of double figure scores is higher than Vardys? He's just so explosive. Also im considering selling Vardy for Kane whereas Mahrez is likely to be in my team for the entire season as I've had him since GW1.

And finally because Ive dropped Mahrez once this season already and he proceeded to scored 15 points.

Rumors that Spurs might get Pato for 10mil - he's hugely out of favor in Brazil as he's costing too much money, even though he's done quite well.

Intrigued to see if he would just be back up to Kane or they would explore him alongside Kane if it happened!

Issue is that he's competing for golden boot in the Bundesliga and generating a huge name for himself so would be strange to leave that in January. Plus Michael Zorc, the head honcho at Dortmund, was just talking about their strengthened financial power, they can now offer players double the wages they could even eight years ago. Add to that his relationship with Reus and the Dortmund faithful, very difficult to see Chelsea offering anything that appeals to him.

He's not. It was reported that the club president said they had agreed a deal with Pool, but he came out the following day and said none of those comments were true.

Similar with Spurs, there's nothing actually solid in these reports. He'll leave Brazil for another chance in Europe, that is almost certain, but everything else is speculation being driven by a) his agent to get him a good deal and b) the January transfer market hype train consisting of terrible journalists.

Thank God he's not coming to LFC. I might have cursed Klopp for it, following our constant attacking fail. Pato has passed his best well before he turned 25. The only way for him to do well, is to go to France - Ligue1, where there is much more spaces and no physical game.

          1. Somalion
            • 16 Years
            10 years, 3 months ago

That's a tad harsh on Ligue 1, remember that a couple of Ligue 1 players (Payet and Andre Ayew) have shown they are well capable for PL standard 😉

But yes, he's very injury prone. His performances have picked up again in Brazil but any big club punting on him are taking a massive risk. Spurs actually seem an ideal club in the sense that they don't need a 100% fit striker with Kane there, so he could begin getting u to PL level from the bench.

            1. El-Kloppico
              • 10 Years
              10 years, 3 months ago

I'm not saying Ligue1 is not a good level, just that they are less physical and let more spaces than EPL, and Pato is no more as quick and cannot dribble pass players. Anyway, I can't see him joining Spurs, with Son and N'Jie already there behind Kane.

                That's fair.

I agree he'd have a fair amount of competition, but I think that's something he needs to face. I mean no big club with any sense are going to buy him based on his previous reputation, he's going to have to rebuild his career in Europe. Or he could join a somewhat lower side and start there instead.

    Thoughts on WC?

    DDG - Myhill
    Bellerin - Zouma - Moreno - Evans - Bennet
    Ozil - Coutinho - KdB - Mahrez - Gosling
    Kun - Lukaku - Vardy

Wary about Kane tbh, can do either

    a) Vardy - KdB - Zouma
    b) Kane - Barkley - Smalling

A means doubling up on City attack and Leicester, while hoping Chelsea to keep CS
B means going all in on MU's defense and Everton's attack.

    Got the following team:
    Stekelenburg. Myhill
    Dawson. Francis. Huth. Kolarov. Cedric
    Sanchez. Mahrez. Barkley. KDB. Ozil
    Lukaku. Vardy. Pelle

    1. Pelle + KDB = Aguero + Lanzini, for a hit make sense?
    2. Pelle + KDB = Kane + Coutinho/Firmino, for a hit?

option 2 gives me a headache of having to drop a mid or forward to the bench every week

Top 10k has been the target since i started coming on here about 5 years ago. The number of players has increased considerably since then.

There are over 3m players now. To be in the top 1% of managers you would need to hit 30k. I think that should be the target for most.

    Current front 8 of

    KDB Mane Mahrez Alli Sanchez

    Ighalo Lukaku Vardy

    Am I mad to do:
    Vardy ---> Kane
    Mane ----> Ozil

    each for a -4?

Alternative would be to get Aguero in for either Vardy or Ighalo...Never been so confused haha

    1. Ha.
      • 10 Years

As in, for -8? I'd get in Ozil for -4 unless you need to do both to get him in

      1. Blue Star
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 3 months ago

Yep it would be a -8...I feel that Kane is more explosive than Vardy. My logic for getting rid of Vardy is that he can't keep this up...If he does, he'd end up on over 38 goals! His performance has to normalise soon enough

        1. Ha.
          • 10 Years
          10 years, 3 months ago

I completely agree. I have a current front line of Lukaku/Aguero/Kane. However, by doing so for -4 you'll need Kane to score double Vardy - he did last week, but not so sure this week (only fancy Kane for 1 and undecided on Vardy).

          1. Blue Star
            • 10 Years

Very fair comment. It would be a toss up for sure. If you had to choose to swap Vardy for Kane or Aguero though, who would you pick? I actually think Kane could outscore Aguero in the short term at least...

            1. Ha.

I am a sucker for big names. Had Hazard at the start of the season, have Sanchez and Aguero at the moment, just shipped KdB etc.

So based on that, probably best to go for Kane 😆

It's a tough choice that I didn't want to have to make myself, but I'd be more afraid of going without Aguero. Maybe consider bringing in Eriksen?
