Watching Man United today got me thinking; are the fans happy with what LVG is doing there?

From a neutral perspective, I think over the long-term United will find it hard to mount a challenge and create a platform, even after the hundreds of millions they've spent over the last 2/3 years.

Van Gaal has plenty of experience available to him, and yes he can get results against some of the bigger teams with his methods. However, his tactics often come across as outdated, boring and far too direct at times; something that is quite contrary to the classic United way. At times, this ball possession/ long-ball style comes across as a hybrid of a 2013 Stoke side and yesteryear's Chelsea. This isn't something you would expect fans to be happy with over time.

The likelihood is that Van Gaal is going to be there for another year, maybe two years maximum before he retires. What then? Either the new manager that comes in will continue with the team under this style, or he will use his own tactics. Do fans really want to see the current style continue? And furthermore under a new style, we're going to be looking at another few years before any progress is made and players adjust.

Although the likes of Smalling and De Gea have flourished recently, there are some obvious problems still going on at the club with players. Not only have various players fallen out with the manager, but we also have not seen the most from the £250m spent over the last 18 months, not to mention the rapid decline of once big names such as Rooney and Di Maria.

United's last few youth products such as Lingard, McNair, Pereira, Rashford and Wilson are getting nowhere near to the football they need to realise their potential, with other talents such as Angelo Henriquez leaving for next to nothing. Will these youths break into the first team like so many stars before them? For a team that was renown for developing and bringing youth players into the first team, it is sad to see this become a thing of the past. Perhaps this is more of a reflection on the changing nature of the game rather than the philosophy of the club.

Don't wanna sound as though I'm bashing United, but if I were a supporter, I wouldn't be too confident on what the near future holds.

Agree with all of this. They need to replace him with someone a bit fresher, dare I say Pochetino.

I think the people making those decisions aren't up to scratch. They'll just go for one of the big names from abroad next time too.

Interesting thoughts. From an also neutral's perspective I wouldn't mind seeing them flounder a bit more. On the other hand they're still doing pretty well if you look at the table and their defensive record and at the end of the day fans do want to see their teams winning competitions?

Far too direct? I think United are pretty posession oriented. You really dont worry about/consider what the next manager will do, thats just an awful way of thinking. Smalling is probably the best CB in the world, DDG one of the best goalies, but thats about it, youre right on that part. Lingard is getting good game time, considering he was injured almost the entirety of last season. Pereira still hasnt had his breakthrough, kinda hard to warrant more playing time until you actually deliver, which he hasnt. McNair and Wilson are middle of the pack talents, probs both end up in Sunderland or the likes in a couple seasons. Not beeing able to bring talents through your own ranks and into the first team isnt exactly a problem exclusive to United. None of the top sides to this with any kind of regularity anymore.

Uniteds problems are Rooney, and not creating much. The bigger ones anyway. I also think Darmian is quite shite, Memphis is crap but hes young. Think of United as a new club challenging for stuff, cus thats kinda what they are.

It not like i cemented his position as the worlds #1. From what ive seen of the other usual suspects, most/all of them have declined, whilst Smallings performances have only kept rising until he stabilized on a very high level.

TRUE. England and Man U are way too sentimental about Rooney. His best days are behind him. We can look back and admire, but there is no reason to continue playing someone so out of form for the sake of nostalgia.

    Asked this earlier today:
    Repost:

    DDG Myhill
    Koscielny Huth Targett
    Sanchez KDB Mane Lingard
    Ighalo Vardy

    =>

    Butland Hennessey
    Rose Ward Simpson
    Özil Eriksen Firmino Gosling
    Kane Lukaku

    Worth wildcarding?

    Rest of the team:
    Kolarov Koscielny
    Mahrez
    Agüero

Glad I didn't WC in the end.

You will bench one .. this is harder than captaincy imo
      Mahrez for me atm

        I have Surman 🙂

I would strong suggest that you don't bench Mahrez

Who is this stanislas? Is he nailed by any chance

At 4.2 he sure beats my 5th mid surman (4.3) and can score a brace!!!

Hard to say. He helped me earn a 100+ score earlier this season and put me miles ahead in my minileagues, but he does seem awfully fragile. My feeling is his explosiveness makes up for any perceived shortcomings.

His returns this season? No. His potential returns if he can stay fit for an extended period? Definitely.

It's all about owning him at the right time.

Think of it this way. He needs to score DOUBLE the points as a player worth 6.5 in order to be worth it. That help?

Guy on TFPL got no.1 OR this GW. Says he often enters a team to see if he can win it. Wonder how often it goes to bogus teams?

Plenty around on social media. People starting to bring up the fact it's not actually a record as some player from 1932 had scored more in the old league

an irish guy, something dunne scored more in a row, for sheffield utd in the 1930s. which is relevant at the end of the day.

I know Vardy is in better form right now but if either of them is a season keeper it's Mahrez I think. There are strong alternatives to Vardy whereas Mahrez seem pretty untouchable in terms of the value he provides.

Sold both and Mahrez is the one I'm regretting as having him would be handy for my team structure.

He's scored 34pts in the last 5 games. Leicester are playing well against the big teams. Who would you replace him with for the same price? The future fixtures are tougher but I'm going to keep the faith. For me Mahrez has from week 2 been my cheapest midfielder who might offer long term value. That has proved to be a bit of an understatement.
