634x258 Suspensions

There were 30 yellow cards flashed across the weekend’s nine fixtures but not one resulted in a suspension. With five new faces clambering aboard over Saturday and Sunday, the Tightrope now has 21 players sitting just one booking shy of a single-match ban as the busy festive period kicks in.

Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Newcastle midfielder Vurnon Anita, Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse and West Brom midfield duo Craig Gardner and James McClean were the latest additions, with the latter escaping with just a yellow for a reckless high challenge on Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele.

Discussing the incident with the press post-match, Baggies boss Tony Pulis hinted that the winger was somewhat fortunate not to be sent packing:

“It was a reckless challenge. He shouldn’t be doing things like that, it’s not allowed in the modern game and he’s got to be careful. He just sees the ball, he is one of those people that if the ball was in front of a brick wall he would throw himself in to try and win the challenge. He’s not a nasty guy, there’s none of that about him, but he has to be careful”.

As a result of the weekend activity, seven sides – Bournemouth, Newcastle, Southampton, Stoke, Spurs, Watford and West Brom – now have a couple of players apiece with four cautions to their names.

Our Tightrope protagonists still sit some way behind Norwich’s Alex Tettey, though, who leads the way on seven bookings for the season after incurring the referee’s wrath during the 2-0 loss at Watford.

Just behind Tettey, there are now four players on six yellow cards. Stoke’s Erik Pieters, Liverpool duo James Milner and Lucas and Newcastle’s Jack Colback are the men concerned, with the latter two picking up cautions this weekend.

Lucas’ yellow card means that Liverpool have now earned 33 cautions in the Premier League alone – that’s on a par with West Brom and just two behind Tottenham in top spot.

Finally, four players will be available for action this weekend after serving one-match bans. Liverpool’s Emre Can, Villa’s Ciaran Clark, West Brom’s Claudio Yacob and Palace’s Wilfried Zaha toppled off last week’s Tightrope, with Can earning his fifth yellow in the midweek cup win at Southampton. Zaha, of course, will serve his ban tomorrow night as the Eagles roll up to Everton.

This means that, at present, there are no players set to serve suspensions in Gameweek 16. Palace’s Yohan Cabaye and Everton’s James McCarthy could yet succumb to the lure of the Tightrope, though – they head into tomorrow’s match at Goodison on four bookings apiece.

Finally, reports this evening suggest that United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger could face retrospective action for an alleged elbowing incident involving West Ham’s Winston Reid at Old Trafford yesterday. It’s believed that referee Mark Clattenburg and his assistants missed the altercation, with the FA set to contact the whistler before making a decision. Marouane Fellaini is likely to escape punishment for an alleged stamp on James Tomkins during the goalless draw.

To both you and Pochecinno I'd say I just don't think that's Wayne but each to their own. The fact that people are prepared to pay vast amounts of money for you doesn't mean that's what you're all about

I'm so used to you winding folk up I'm not sure whether you're being serious 😛

For me, he showed when he repeatedly threatened to leave United unless he was paid more money that he was all about the dosh. Perhaps it is an unfortunate coincidence but all he has ever done in my eyes is try and hold them to ransom.

I do think there's a bit more than meets the eye to Wayne though, Somalion. Am just off to bed so apologies for not elaborating further but you're one of my favourite posters and I know you're a regular so sure we'll discuss it again at some point

it will be interesting to see what happens from here. Saying he should retire is easy from the stands, especially when he's picking up 300k a week. Would you give that up? It's also a long time out of the game. His best decision in footballing terms would be to see out the season then move to a smaller club (on a lower wage, gasp) and start playing a new position. Either an out and out target man, or central midfielder I think would suit him but there's no way Man U are going to have the patience to stick with him as he learns to adapt to his advanced footballing age..

Maybe, it was always a one week thing punt for me though. If Agüero's back, I'm switching, Swansea's defense is god awful, & I can't go without City attack at home tbh.

Suffocating in a world of human filth
    Yes, pull me under
Stop treading in a pool of your own blood
    Accept demise

Was thinking yesterday you should stick to this number per team for future. In the past with up to 15 it was really hard to manage. So many people not updating with transparent plans or dropping off the face of earth all together.
Used to like the things previous regime did that let us know how good managers had been at bench selections, maybe could add that in future

In the scorecentre. On the front screen it tells you which group you are in you then just click on the tab corresponding to the group.

Unfortunately there is a significant delay during gametime so scores take a good while to become accurate.

Erm San Marino are hating it the scores seem all over the place it has us losing every week.

On a serious note I enjoy these competitions although the losses have been hard to take we have had some ridiculously bad luck. Enjoy the banter and winding the opposition up a bit, especially looking forward to making sure England don't qualify by rolling out 5 bench boosts and dedicating the win to Viperstripes 😉

Everyone has pretty much had enough tbh. Looking at the squads (us and Iceland) we would probably have won our tie 4 out of 5 times. Think Sess is taking a hiatus this week so I will probably step in and either myself or Djenzio will submit the team, we are all feeling nothing is going right this season for any of us

That is a shame. You neer know a couple of wins and you could force your way back into the mix. There are some other big teams struggling at the moment as well

Yeah we won't give up not in our nature, sometimes I wish could share with people exactly what we do each matchday so you would know what lengths we go to, not that it's been very successful this tournament so far 🙂

Don't know how do you pull it but the pressers are brilliant. If some of the "quieter" team qualified for the next round they are supposed to be given a power to hire an additional squad for the PR post

Hmm a good point. If teams which submit the good pressers go out it will be a shame but you cannot force anyone to be creative.

    Who......

    1) Pulled a hoax about FPL opening at 4am on a Tuesday in July?
    2) Thought Rome was in France?
    3) Had his own "hand in ass"
    4) Found Jonty's dog?
    5) Said " It's these sorts of decisions that separate the better ff players from the lesser lights. You can't teach this sort of thing. If you understand football, the decision is clear cut." Before WBA conceded in each of the last 5 GWs, when Demi suggested selling a Pulis defender.
    6) Called RBJ an Irish mug?
    7) Had the inside track on Vardy's missus?
    8) Had the highest ever bench total on FFS?
    9) Called non-members, lizards?
    10) Has the highest number of upvotes?

I assume it's been discussed but I only noticed this week how GW 18 & 19 fixtures are repeated in GW 24 & 25. Soooo... tasty fixtures for Spurs (Nor, Wat) Arsenal (Bournemouth, Soton) City (Sun, Leic) Pool (Sun, Leic) and West Brom (Swan, New) .
Nastiness for Leicester, Stoke, United and Watford

They dont win games by balanced play, not intending to win the game 1-0 or 2-0 with a clean sheet. They win by vastly outscoring their opponents.

    KDB or Silva?

Why? (Does KDB play higher up the park then Silva?, due to this is he more involved in attacking play?)

Which is why I've provided advice as to how to get better answers.

Spamming the same question isn't going to get you very far on here. We have loads of helpful posts willing to answer questions but you have to give a little back and be patient with answers.

Especially at this time of the day when pages don't move very fast

Last season, I managed to improve my OR and learn a lot by just read the comments in this forum. This season I go further by doing my own research with internet, I think this is the way to learn. I am still a beginner, but it helps me to understand more and I enjoy this game with my own research.

kind of better for Vardy if they score less isn't it? With a single Vardy goal in a 1-0, he's odds on to get 9 points. Whereas if he scores in a 3-2 victory it's probably only going to be 6.

Don't you have anybody else to sell? Well, at least wait for the Wednesday's decisive CL match to be over. I am not very optimistic about Arsenal's chances in the second part of a double away week.

I reckon Firmino will do well if... IF Sturridge stays fit. He will find a Sturridge run much easier than the non-moving oaf Benteke.

      Benteke, Allen, Milner, Ibe

      out for

      Sturridge, Can, Hendo, Coutinho

If the latter 4 are all fit next week, I reckon that will be the team and could do some serious damage to WBA. Hold Firmino for sure (I don't have him btw)

He is still assessing his options. The tinkering will diminish as time goes by.

The 4 moves mentioned above are obvious one's and he knows it after today.

        Haha. The rules say:

"The Wildcard chip can be used twice a season, once in the first half of the season (before 28 Dec 14:00) and once in the second half of the season."

So I'm thinking you can play it anytime from 14:00 on 28 Dec onwards.

    Is this correct...

So in a DGW all teams play as per usual. However, some other teams play an extra game and those points are added to one game week total?

This then gives you the benefit of having a few players maybe playing 180 mins in the one game week?

Anyone reckon Sterling will run rampant against Swansea? Could be the perfect game for City to utilize his pace up front.

Possibly, hope not having transferred him out this week (14).. I'm holding back on any transfers till Fri night/Sat morning though because I have no City players but waiting to see if Kompany/Aguero/Yaya are back. Can only afford Stirling or Silva so it will between the 2.

Swansea will likely tighten up after conceding 3 against Leicester - seems to be a reccuring pattern this year with the exception of Bournemouth's two 5-1 losses in a row that when a team gets trounced they tighten up and don't concede many the next game. Also when a good team has a bad result they tend to turn it around the next and when a bad team has a good result they've often then had another bad result; As such I predict a riot in the Spurs v Newcastle game 😛

Newcastle's formation has changed which probably impacted the performance. The same thing happened when they beat Norwich and after that...

Even then, its affecting the rest of the season. There's a chance a DGW fails like with Arsenal and Liverpool last season I think.
