The community took an in-depth look at strategy this week to discuss the different tactics used, from playing the percentages to shooting from the hip. Our hot topic posters offer advice on these different types of Fantasy manager as well as some early Christmas carol singing – Fantasy football style. Elsewhere, our regular community writers are on hand with advice on climbing up the rankings in Gameweek 16 and beyond into Christmas, while we also see who has already pulled some Christmas crackers in our community leagues and catch up with the latest Members tables under construction.

The Community Articles

With even the most experienced Fantasy managers struggling for consistency this year, Enzo the Baker has presented those in the doldrums with a festive challenge.

To get the ball rolling this Gameweek The Sarjeant was on hand with his regular look ahead to the weekend’s matches based on team form.

Meanwhile YMA presented his regular predictions based on what the bookies are saying and Bolivian Seaman has popped by the fans’ forums for their pitch-side insight.

One differential that could help climb the rankings is Raheem Sterling, who, according to Kavali’s analysis, profits when Sergio Aguero is injured. Manchester City are also amongst those sides to come under the microscope of Rakkhi, with his look at home and away form over the last four years.

Finally, The Fantastic Fox has developed the theory of the baseline defender as he looks for some help in finding clean sheets to keep the Christmas march up the rankings going.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With both Manchester sides battling injuries, Zasa’s analysis of their midweek Champions League encounters gives a good indication of those who are fighting fit and in form this weekend.

A Christmas miracle may be needed to revive the fitness of Sergio Aguero in particular, who once again misses the next match as he recovers from injury. To help spread some festive cheer for Fantasy managers there was plenty of Christmas songs being penned, with this Tyrone Mings inspired verse from Rhysyball amongst our favourites.

On a similar festive theme, Demi was in fine voice to tell us about some of the top Christmas differentials we ought to be considering.

For some those looking to take up Enzo the Baker’s Christmas challenge, December has proved a cruel month so far, especially for those investing in the likes of the misfiring Eden Hazard and the injured Daniel Sturridge. This week’s Rough with the Smooth rounded up many of these tales of woe, along with some bragging from those who captained hat-trick hero Riyad Mahrez.

Bowstring the Carp had a stern message for those who seem all too ready to criticise others’ moves only with the benefit of hindsight.

Elsewhere, strategy took centre stage this week on both the Scoutcast and the hot topics as we discussed the merits and pitfalls of playing the percentages, while Twister Saltergater had some fun detailing the key Fantasy manager groups of dullards, sheep and punters.

Rule changes also cropped up this week, with Deadstar putting his head above the parapet to ponder scrapping of captaincies and ironing out disputes about assists once and for all.

The Members Tables

Scorcher Prime has been busy this week creating a wealth of statistics tables covering almost every aspect of the game from predicting defender goals to the most attacking strikers and midfielders in with a chance of a goal.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Andy extended his FFScout moderators and contributors league lead to 80 points over second-placed Green Windmill.

Ahead of the fourth week of qualifying in the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament, Cheesoid was on hand to look back at the key events so far in this competition and Jaffalicious also popped by to deliver the latest news from the FFS UEFA Champion League competition.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, The Enlightener hit the top score in Gameweek 15 with 99. There are now 1207 teams qualified after 95 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 43.

Finally, Ralf Buckenmaier is the new leader of RedLightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league and is also now comfortably in the top 1,000 in the overall rankings.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Caught down the bottom so I'll try one last time. I completely missed the price changes and lost value on both Williams and Tadic before getting rid of them. Regardless, I'm still looking at switching them both. I have 15.1 in the bank and am not afraid of spending it all. Which combo would you chose over the next 6 gameweeks?

Williams > Moreno, Kolarov, Pieters, Dann & Zouma.

Tadic > Coutinho, Silva, Alli, Walcott & Ramsey

    1. Eden Hazardous

If you have a good 4th defender , Kolarov
      If not , Moreno

      Tadic > Ramsey imo

Whoever comes in would be my fourth defender. I currently have Smalling, Bellerin, Alderweireld & Dawson.

A lot of people picking Ramsey after 1 good game. Can we rely on him to find his form from the 13/14 season?

Go for Aleks then and slowly move towards Bellerin > Moreno in the nest 2-3 weeks

Yes , I think so. The underlying stats were always there through the season AND he was playing RW at the time. Now , he is back in a central berth where he is a beast and Wenger and him alike , think this new position will let him prosper

With Cazorla out long-term, he's back in his favourite position. True that we shouldn't get too excited after one game, but things do look promising.

I think Bellerin is looking like a keeper at the moment to me, so will side with just getting Moreno now. Plus the lack of Kompany hinders Kolarov's returns.

It seems Ramsey is the clear favourite. Cheers to both of you.

      • 12 Years

Moreno + not Dele Alli for me. Can't go wrong with any of those 4 IMO. That said Ramsey is the only one I _currently_ own from those mids, looking to get the rest in later.

        • 13 Years

Why not Alli? I know the others are bigger players, but he's the one with form on his side.

Moreno. Cheaper, very attacking, and good fixtures.
Tough one for the mids. Probably Ramsey. Walcott is too punty and short-term, Silva is too injury-prone, and the Liverpool Midfield is too crowded for Coutinho these days.

      1. theBoose
        • 13 Years

Yeah, I'm leaning towards Moreno out of my shortlist.

Your reasonings are actually quite sane. I think I might take the chance on him. He's always served me well in the past. My only worry is with a front 7 consisting already of Deulofeu, Ozil, De Bruyne, Mahrez, Vardy, Kane & Lukaku. I foresee benching problems ahead.

    REPOST BOTTOM OF LAST PAGE

G'day Community, I'm in a little pickle here

I've played 343 with alexis on my bench last 2 weeks, had other areas to improve and been happy playing Ighalo with his kind fixtures, but they are soon to get tougher...1 FT

    A) 3-5-2 : Bench Ighalo and bring in any midfielder (already have KDB Ozil Mahrez Barkley)
    B) 3-4-3 : Use the transfer on my struggling GK line (currently have Myhill McCarthy)

    Thanks in advance

Stanislas has to face one of the best defences albeit they are without Smalling and co. , LVG's system chokes the life out of the other team

There's little point captaining the same player as the herd as if he does well, you don't gain anything. Whereas if you captain a differential, you overtake the same herd. That's why I've just sold Barkley and why I'm captaining Sterling this week.

Anyone else think the transfer rise threshold isn't high enough?
Seems like every decent team is worth between 106-109m already and it ain't even mid December. Prices are definitely more volatile than they were 5 or 6 years ago because unless you were actively playing the market most teams would've been around 103-106m or less in December. At the beginning of the season back then, there would have been approx 2.2/2,3m which would creep close to 3 million players by May. Right now in December we have almost 3.6m total players so maybe they haven't adjusted it enough accordingly. I'm aware that the market slows down in a couple of months and a lot of people stand to lose values on guys like Vardy/Mahrez who've been keepers up until now but i'd like to see the PR threshold go up significantly. Makes it a fairer game for casual players and means the hands-on managers can relax with transfers a bit.

    1. the cromulent one
      • 13 Years

I dunno. 3 years ago it was easy enough to have a team value of 110m by January. Last year, the lack of price changes caused a bit of an uproar. Seems that it's a decent balance now.

Another 5 man midfield selection dillemma.

Özil, De Bruyne, Deulofeu, Barkley, Mahrez

    Who to bench?
After last weeks hattrick and the amount of people who own him, benching Mahrez may seem crazy but Chelsea is still a tough fixture, especially in contrast with Norwich away for someone like Deulofeu who is also in good form.

Taking away the fear of losing ground on the 60% ownership, would benching Mahrez for Chelsea (when you have five midfielder all of whom are in good form and probably have better fixtures) really seem so unreasonable? Or is it just not worth the risk?

It would be interesting to see what you think 😉

A tough call it is! My Front three are Ighalo, Kane and Lukaku so I think they're all pretty much undroppable. I've left sore points on the bench on four occasions this season from picking the wrong person to bench hence the immense stress ha!
Naturally a large share of the points are dependant on Everton. It's not certain they'll run over Norwich away.
It maybe feels like a double risk. If I play Mahrez and bench Deleufeo, even if I lose good points it won't be as much of a loss as if the situation is reversed.

@Balders - I missed your question on the last page.
    Yup, benching Ayew.
Who did you bring in for Sturridge?
Good luck this week! Should be close.

      Never bench Vardy.

Firmino is healthy, so why not save the FT?

    Bench 1 of these, deadzoners:

    Kolarov (SWA)
    Koscielny (avl)
    Moreno (WBA)
    Coutinho (WBA)

Wow, tough one. Who is your other defender?
Maybe Kolarov, as much as I hate to say it. Without Kompany, City alway look likely to concede.

        defenders are:

        kola - kosc - moreno - (VvD - Dawson)

I am contemplating playing the AoA chip to win my h2h ML grudge match.

        could they concede to villa?
Was looking at numbers and 3 of his 4 cleanies have been away matches. (naturally, he was missing for 2 home cleansheets)

no consideration for Silva all week, but have a feeling he will do well. cheers great minds for the advice.

I have been totally ignoring Man C mids for Captain for some reason. Dont know why, could be a great shout. I have a simple rule though, if in doubt pick the forward

      Who knows they're both shouts

I think City will fill their boots against the swans. Only problem is there's about 5 different guys who could get big hauls. Silva (c) could be huge if it comes off

I don't trust either, to be honest.

I'd say Silva. He is bound to score/assist at least once and is always good for BPs.
Then again, they lost to stoke city 2-0.... nobody bet on that happening.

Newcastle looked like a new team against Liverpool. Who are your other options?

Seems like the type of match that Arsenal will walk 5-nil. Koscielny is the 1 away player of the 4, though.

I might play Gomes over Butland. Both are away matches, but Sunderland don't put up the fight the way West Ham seems to.

      Maybe that's crazy?

This is still the main debate I have at the minute. I just feel like Stoke are a better team and have more chance of the CS.

Sunderland have started doing better recently too.

Thinking Mané --> Alli / Coutinho? Leaning towards the latter though but will he start?

    Butland
    Bellerin | Kolarov | Azpilicueta
    Özil | KDB (c) | Mahrez | Mané
    Ighalo | Lukaku | Vardy

    Rudd | Deulofeu | Huth | Francis [1FT + 3.3m ITB]

Cheers - don't think it's worth me bringing in someone who's not guaranteed minutes right now. Maybe Alli is the better shout and Mané's been nothing but trouble!

I have Alli btw, so that's not a bad shout... but if you're hesitant then Delo isn't a bad option at all...

I am tempted to save but Alii just seems so tempting right now and Deulofeu's final ball and shot just seems to be lacking right now.

      Benching headache with that 🙁

I like the Coutinho one, but Alli is too hard to resist at 5m, playing CAM. I'd get Alli and play him

Agreed - but I still have a WC as backup too but really want to pick a guaranteed starter and with Alli playing further forward, there's not many better chances to bring him in IMO
