The community took an in-depth look at strategy this week to discuss the different tactics used, from playing the percentages to shooting from the hip. Our hot topic posters offer advice on these different types of Fantasy manager as well as some early Christmas carol singing – Fantasy football style. Elsewhere, our regular community writers are on hand with advice on climbing up the rankings in Gameweek 16 and beyond into Christmas, while we also see who has already pulled some Christmas crackers in our community leagues and catch up with the latest Members tables under construction.

The Community Articles

With even the most experienced Fantasy managers struggling for consistency this year, Enzo the Baker has presented those in the doldrums with a festive challenge.

To get the ball rolling this Gameweek The Sarjeant was on hand with his regular look ahead to the weekend’s matches based on team form.

Meanwhile YMA presented his regular predictions based on what the bookies are saying and Bolivian Seaman has popped by the fans’ forums for their pitch-side insight.

One differential that could help climb the rankings is Raheem Sterling, who, according to Kavali’s analysis, profits when Sergio Aguero is injured. Manchester City are also amongst those sides to come under the microscope of Rakkhi, with his look at home and away form over the last four years.

Finally, The Fantastic Fox has developed the theory of the baseline defender as he looks for some help in finding clean sheets to keep the Christmas march up the rankings going.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With both Manchester sides battling injuries, Zasa’s analysis of their midweek Champions League encounters gives a good indication of those who are fighting fit and in form this weekend.

A Christmas miracle may be needed to revive the fitness of Sergio Aguero in particular, who once again misses the next match as he recovers from injury. To help spread some festive cheer for Fantasy managers there was plenty of Christmas songs being penned, with this Tyrone Mings inspired verse from Rhysyball amongst our favourites.

On a similar festive theme, Demi was in fine voice to tell us about some of the top Christmas differentials we ought to be considering.

For some those looking to take up Enzo the Baker’s Christmas challenge, December has proved a cruel month so far, especially for those investing in the likes of the misfiring Eden Hazard and the injured Daniel Sturridge. This week’s Rough with the Smooth rounded up many of these tales of woe, along with some bragging from those who captained hat-trick hero Riyad Mahrez.

Bowstring the Carp had a stern message for those who seem all too ready to criticise others’ moves only with the benefit of hindsight.

Elsewhere, strategy took centre stage this week on both the Scoutcast and the hot topics as we discussed the merits and pitfalls of playing the percentages, while Twister Saltergater had some fun detailing the key Fantasy manager groups of dullards, sheep and punters.

Rule changes also cropped up this week, with Deadstar putting his head above the parapet to ponder scrapping of captaincies and ironing out disputes about assists once and for all.

The Members Tables

Scorcher Prime has been busy this week creating a wealth of statistics tables covering almost every aspect of the game from predicting defender goals to the most attacking strikers and midfielders in with a chance of a goal.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Andy extended his FFScout moderators and contributors league lead to 80 points over second-placed Green Windmill.

Ahead of the fourth week of qualifying in the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament, Cheesoid was on hand to look back at the key events so far in this competition and Jaffalicious also popped by to deliver the latest news from the FFS UEFA Champion League competition.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, The Enlightener hit the top score in Gameweek 15 with 99. There are now 1207 teams qualified after 95 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 43.

Finally, Ralf Buckenmaier is the new leader of RedLightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league and is also now comfortably in the top 1,000 in the overall rankings.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Hey peeps. Major issue for me this GW. Hopefully talking to you lot will help me towards a good choice.

Injuries on Aguero and Lanzini, who both. So transferring out one of them for free would be preferable. Both players have been listed as hopeful for GW17 by their managers. Lanzini will prob be out for one of the christmas games. And Aguero should be handled carefully by Pellegrino being a rotation risk until January. So I guess they are quite similar in that matter.

    Which leaves me with this problem;

    Either

Lanzini out -> Ramsey/Walcott/Eriksen/Alli/King (Currently Ramsey is the one I favour, however to save cash for later Alli is also a good option. Walcott is probably a rotation risk for the Xmas period, Eriksen is outta form, and King needs to score to keep his role)

    or

Aguero out -> Kane/Giroud/Benteke/Martial (Giroud will potentially get more points, but unpredictably swinging Kane holds a more secure position within his team. The two others are potential diffs with guaranteed starting berths)

You might not agree with me on my reasoning. But who should I go for? A new mid or a new striker? Which choice will give more points during Xmas? (Worth mentioning that I own Luka and Vardy, so captaincy choices are aplenty)

    1. Daddy
      • 10 Years

      Aguero to Kane for me

This GW Kane will be part of a game with few goals. And whether he manages to score on one of the ten chances he creates each game is a total random. Still you would go with Kane? May I be so bold as to ask why? =)

      • 10 Years
      10 years, 3 months ago

A new mid, simply because Aguero should be back next week and you won't play Lanzini every week, unlike Kun. Lanzini -> Walcott/Ramsey for me.

      1. Stat Sloth
        • 10 Years

This is what I am thinking too. And to play 3-5-2 is not necessarily a bad idea. However, Wally will be rotated during Xmas, don't you think? And seeing that Ramsey thrives in a central midfield position, he would be the obvious choice?

        1. Daddy

I've got 1 FT, happy enough with my starting 11 but 3 of my bench don't play. Do I use the FT to start improving my bench or save incase of injuries this week??

    Current team:

    DDG/ (McCarthy)
    Dier/ Moreno/ Bellerin/ (Dawson)/ (Mariappa)
    Barkley/ KDB/ Mahrez/ Ozil/ (Wanyama)
Kane/ Lukaku/ VardyI've got 1FT, happy enough with my starting 11 but 3 of my bench don't play. Do I use the FT to start sorting my bench or save until next week incase of injuries?

Oh - and I'm on the train home after a Christmas work night out so I've got 30 minutes to make a whole load of unnecessary transfers...

Yeah that's what I'll probably do. No point using the FT on someone that'll sit on the bench. Cheers all.

Don't think any of these are worth a -4 so gonna stick with them.
    Ozil, Mahrez, Barkley, Bolasie
    Kane, Lukaku, Vardy
Especially as it would be for Silva/Sterling/KDB and I can't decide which one anyway (and they're away at Arsenal next week as well)

Last week it was easy for me to sit Barkley, but this week I'm not so sure. I think Chelsea may park the bus and reduce Mahrez to a blank.

    Better option this week:

    A) Barkley
    B) Mahrez

Total goal minutes spreads for the top 10 available in the captain's poll this week.......

    Kane 40-44
    Giroud 29-32
    Lukaku 25-28
    De Bruyne 20-23
    Coutinho 17-20
    Ighalo 16-19
    Silva 15-18
    Mahrez 13-16
    Barkley 11-14
    Ozil 9-12

e.g if a player scores in the 40th and 80th minute, the make up will be 120. If a player doesn't score, make up will be zero - so, the higher the numbers (spread), the more deemed likely by the spread-betting website that a player is to score one or more goals.

Looking at the percentage ownership, Mahrez, lukaku, ozil and vardy should be owned and never benched, too risky otherwise

      • 15 Years

I can't see myself owning Ozil any time soon.

Mahrez and Vardy are up there simply because of the value.
