Is it more important to do
    vvd to alderwireld
    Targett to nyome
    Barkley to hazard?

So the RMT tool is telling me to ditch Bolasie this week. Best option here?

    A) Bolasie -> a risky 2 week option in Pedro/Ayew (before switching to Sanchez in GW19)

    B) Bolasie -> a solid mid term option in Ramsey/Coutinho

    C) VVD/Kolarov -> Zouma

    D) Kolarov & Bolasie -> Zouma & Hazard(c) [-4]. Hazard -> Sanchez in 2 weeks.

    DDG
    Bellerin, Moreno, VVD
    KDB, Mahrez, Barkley, Bolasie
    Kane, Lukaku, Giroud

    Hennessey, Kolarov, Simpson, Surman
    Bank 4.5m, 1FT

Yeah - Bellerin is at home and nailed on, whereas Kolarov is neither.

Barkley looked rubbish yesterday, but has some tasty fixtures.

Wouldn't bother selling Bolasie for someone you'll only sell again in a fortnight. Wouldn't go near Chelsea to be honest.

Id probably save and reasses next week.

Yeah, A is pretty short sighted I guess. Saving or C) is probably the right play, although if Hazard shows positive signs tomorrow I will tempted with D! Cheers

I'm looking at 3 potential transfers this week. Of course, I am going to wait until all the games are over to make any moves.

    Gomez > Simpson
    Westwood > Stanislas
    DDG > Butland

I know, I know. I still have Gomez. He looks the obvious move, since he is injured. I've just never had time to remove him, and wouldn't haven't ever called upon my 5th defender as I played 3 strong ones every week.

The second is an upgrade over the Christmas period, but a downgrade in price. Stanislas is likely to actually score points and is 4.2.

The latter will free up 0.8m. Stoke are solid with Shawcross in the side, and Butland punishes me every week with his hauls. DDG has some great fixtures so it seems stupid to remove him, but he is expensive for a keeper, considering there is one a lot cheaper who is scoring a lot more points.

    Thoughts?

He is 4.0m and pretty much nailed on. All these moves are focussed on freeing up funds whilst getting in better players.

Not tempted to push the 4.0 to 4.4 for Ward? I'm thinking on those lines as well..or WestBrom..or Wollschield?

I could do, but I've got them in my sights for a 4th defender when the time comes around. Wolly would somewhat cover Butland's points, but I would be a step away from getting Aguero, rather than a step towards him.

No need to do all 3 this week. In fact, there is an argument to do none of them. What's the rest of your squad looking like? How much cash and how many freebies do you have?

DDG has good upcoming fixtures so I'd definitely avoid that one.

Assuming the rest of your squad is in good shape I'd say Gomez -> x is the best move. X depends on cash and rest of your team.

Forgot to mention, I have 2 FTs this week. I won't be doing all 3, 1 at least, possibly 2.

I'm happy with the rest of my team, looking solid. Only weak points are Barkley, who I don't think will score as well as other similarly priced midfielders over the Christmas period, and Kolarov who is somewhat of a rotation risk with Clichy back.

I have 5.4m in the bank but I'm looking to save as much as possible so that I can bring Kun in if needs be. With him out, that money isn't totally necessary and I'd rather not tie it up in 'bench fodder'. They may be called upon in the next few weeks, but there are picks who are just as good for much cheaper.

Ok, in that case I would just do Gomez -> Zouma/WBA defender. If looking to save some cash I'd consider Olsson (WBA) @ 4.3m. Has started the last 3. Save the other freebie.

The first two seem decent moves, but I'd hold DDG for a week longer as he has Norwich at home next week, so decent chance of a CS and, assuming you have 2fts, saves a hit for what are effectively moves for players that wont have any immediate points impact (ie bench fodder).

Thanks. I think I'll keep DDG if it looks like the adult defenders will be back for next week.

Gomez will be going this week no matter what. Wolly and Ward are tempting, but as above, the aim was to free up some more funds.

I can't believe somebody seriously asks this (about the books). Harry Potter is basic children adventure book. LOTR is an epic tale, and hence better beyond comparison.

Not really asking about the story of the book, I'm more interested in how the writer wrote the book as in imagination, technique of expanding the plot, twist etc.

Although to categorize Harry Potter as a basic children adventure book are pretty daft.

Age might have a huge factor. Book 1 + 2 firmly belong to the teen category but the subsequent books tackled matured subjects and you could argue that increase in maturity matched that of its readers at the time which is why it has such a loyal + vocal base.

I mean rather technically. There's a massive difference between LOTR and HP. The former is in completely different literary style than not only HP but about every post-Tolkien book that is read in the same genre. That's what really distinguishes Tolkien.

That said, I haven't read the whole HP, have no idea about the later parts. I was quite old for these books when they first were published, and the level of literature wasn't sufficient to catch my interest so much that I would have continued reading them.

That's fair. I was in the same class as Harry so it works for me. I do see all these new 'Young Adult' novels and I do have a similar reaction that you did. They could probably be good but it just doesn't appeal to me.

Films every time for me. Whats' the point of watching a film where you already know the outcome as you've read the book and then slag it off as not being as good as the book? 😛

      1. Rhinos
        • 12 Years

The problem for lotr is it's main draw is the world in which it's set. Imagining this world as you read the book is what blows our minds as kids. Once you've seen the film there's no more imagining needed

I think the advantage books have is individual readers are able to imagine whatever world the author creates. Doesn't even have to be fantasy novel. That makes it a more engaging experience IMO. With films, it's someone's interpretation so yeah most people will disagree with how one thing or another was represented.

But I do agree for what it's worth, if the ending of major twists are a big deal then just watching the films is a reasonable stance.

I was being a little 'tongue in cheek' but it does seem to me that many people waste a lot of time and money watching films just so they can say it wasn't as good as the books. Were they expecting it to be?

That does bug me as well. That and the fixation on spoilers. I think the Internet just makes it someway for opinions to be heard and it's now much easier to claim to be able to do a better job especially as you'd be saying that to a bunch of strangers. Your mates will probably call you out if you claim you could have made a better James Bond film.

Some of the special features on the LOTR DVD sets are really enlightening as to how much trouble they went to to stay true to the books wherever possible. I think they had copies of the books on set all the time. They also acknowledge that there will be critics of the adaptions, but the films should be judged as films, not just compared to the books.

It was called Different Seasons. Great collection of 4/5 short stories/novellas. Still have my original copy. It's a shame that King is thought of by the majority as just a horror writer.

'The Breathing Method'. It was the last one in the collection and after reading the first 3 it always seemed a bit average in comparison.

Me too TBH. I haven't read anything new by him for 10+ years. Eyes of the Dragon was written in the late early 80s/early 90s, which in my opinion, was his best period.

With the congested Christmas fixtures nearly here and the short time between GWs there is less time to spot trends and bandwagons. Its a good time to make up ground if you pick a decent differential.

Who do you think is set to make decent returns over those 3/4 GWs?

For me, Sigurdsson may be a good differential. Looked a threat against City yesterday and may have a new lease of life with Monk leaving.

I'd monitor Liverpool today. We run hot and cold, especially at the back. Moreno is a very good pick, great chance of attacking returns as well as bonus. The fixtures look good and he won't be rotated over Christmas but considering we conceded 2 against Newcastle then I'd be a little skeptical.

You could get him in for Kolarov. Don't think he will keep a CS against Arsenal even if he does start.

Moreno or Coutinho maybe? But that might just be transferring for the sake of it!

I'd save. You have a good squad and 2FTs can go along way next week

Delafool never stays on the pitch though. Courtinio - wait till he fully recovers from injury. No, in a word.

Thoughts from the second half of Man City v Swansea (gave thoughts on first half last page). City appear to set up in a 4-1-4-1 formation after the break. They press higher up the pitch and look more threatening as a result. Swans respond by working the channels and also look more threatening. With the arrival of KDB, City seem to drop into a 4-4-1-1, cutting off the flanks for Swansea but dimishing their own threat. The City defence, which had previously held its line well, momentarily switch off and allow Gomis through. City then push men forward and get the winner. Swansea looked vulnerable at defending set pieces throughout.

        In the hole behind Bony/Iheanacho.

OK. So straight swap for Silva. You think Silva will be in the hole when both are playing?

My guess is yes if both are on the pitch together.

It would have changed by now if it was going to. The press association has it down as an Ighalo goal, and that will be how it stays. He had a similar one vs West Ham too.

For the avoidance of doubt, points awarded in-game are subject to change up until one hour after the final whistle of the last match of any given day. Once the points have all been updated on that day, no further adjustments to points will be made

I've got KDB,so naturally easy disappointed when he came on for one point. But then noticed the leader in my ML captained him. Providedo young Kane and Ramsey deliverdo the goods today I'm going top of the league. I was nearly 100 behind a month ago.
